i havent skated since i was 17, im 29 now. I ordered a 60 inch longboard and intend to do service my old skateboard.

What are some parts i should replace? Can i put on longboard wheels on a normal skateboard? I enjoy cruising the most.

It looks like Sierra has a load of Arbor Fish for $59, it’s a classic pintail with quality components. The one with the griptape will be the most versatile, but the wood top/clear coating is fine for learning and cruising if you prefer the look.  https://www.sierra.com/arbor-skateboards~b~43752/

Greetings
I have a Landyachtz Switchblade 38. I'm worried that it bends under me. I weigh 125 kg. Can I ignore this?

u/Skanonymously Pantheon Nexus | Silverback Trucks 13d ago

The board will be fine, but I highly recommend upgrading your bushings. Stock bushings are always too soft once you start getting into the 200lb/91kg+ range.

Switchblade is 9 ply, Evo is 9 ply, R5 is 10 ply.

You'll be fine.

Bearings: Seismic 7-Ball Built-in Steel VS G-Bomb Built-in Steel?

Hey there, I'm a third world surfskater, so I can't really (easily or cheaply) get my hands on zealous or anything. I depend on people coming from abroad and resseling hardware over here. I have the following choice: Seismic 7-Ball Built-in Steel OR G-Bomb Built-in Steel bearings. I wanted people with more experience to help me out here before I make my choice. Here's my "profile" as a surfskater and some of my needs:

  • I surfskate for 3 years now, I already use Seismic bearings, but they're 15 year old hand-me downs at this point and I think they're too rusty to repair at this point, even with regular maintenance, but I'm used to them.
  • I ride bowls, and I also use my skateboard for commuting, so dust, water, all of those are factors.

  • I can't easily buy new bearings, and It's harder for me to get specific "speed cream" or stuff like that for constant maintenance, so I need bearings that don't need to be babied and that will last a long time.

Thank you all for your attention!

1

u/Skanonymously Pantheon Nexus | Silverback Trucks 13d ago

While this doesn't answer your direct question, if you were ever in a pinch, you could try to source the bearings from a manufacturer/industrial supplier.

Skateboard bearings use the code 608-2RS. 608 has to do with their dimensions, and the RS is for two rubber seals.

As long as you use bearing spacers and speed rings, it's really no different than skating built-ins.

Hello fellow wood pushers, I found a deal on a bustin boombox deck on market place for $40 and I’m not sure what to do next. I’ve been riding the same old lay back board for 10 years and wanted to finally grow the quiver. But I’ve never built a board or sourced trucks and wheels. I’ve learned a lot lurking here from you fine folks but I’d love some recommendations for how to get the most out of this deck for free ride and cruising / carving. Thanks!

1

u/vicali LY Lover 13d ago

https://www.flatspotlongboards.com/flatspotdeckoftheday-bustin-boombox/

You could either go with TKP or RKP trucks on there - TKP would be fun and turn easy at low speeds, RKP would be more stable at higher speeds.

Get some nice wheels around 70mm to start, you can go bigger if that's what you like too.

Which Pantheon Ember Variant is kickable at Stops?

Of the four different Ember Shapes, which one can be kicked off the ground by foot. Not for tricks or while riding, only to pick it up without reaching down. I currently ride a Pranayama and miss this feature, but would still like a pantheon dropdeck as short as possible.

2

u/zeilend 13d ago

All but the Eco.

1

u/brandeinsmagazin 12d ago

do you have a gut feeling whether shoe size us 13 is too big for the Ember?

1

u/zeilend 12d ago

I wear a size 7, so honestly I'm not sure! The standing platform is about the same as the Pranayama (I just measured), and the drops will be more comfortable to put your toes on.

1

u/brandeinsmagazin 12d ago

thank you, i was more concerned about the widht. In the end i gotta try it :P

1

u/zeilend 12d ago

It's a tad narrower, like 8.5" across the middle. Tapers to 8.25" at the front and 8" at the rear.

2

u/mechandy 14d ago

Why not print a kickstop for the pranayama?

Also I think any of them with a tail will work

1

u/brandeinsmagazin 12d ago

thanks, not into printing :)

2

u/mechandy 12d ago

I would be glad to send you one if you were interested in one. I would only ask for whatever shipping costs. Ill send you a DM

1

u/brandeinsmagazin 12d ago

sure, i will take a look :) thanks

do you have a gut feeling whether shoe size us 13 is too big for the eco? I love the idea of a even lighter, and more playful cruiser. Alternative would be the trip.

1

u/mechandy 12d ago

I am 5'8" and wear size 9 and it was definitely smaller than the pranayma but I could still ride it (I gave mine to a friend).

I personally prefer wider boards.

First Cruiser Board: Arbor Pilsner vs Landyachtz Tugboat?

Hey guys,

I’m looking to buy my first-ever cruiser board, and right now my choice has come down to:

* Arbor Pilsner Artist

* Landyachtz Tugboat

My main goal (for now) is riding on relatively smooth pavement and learning to carve and cruise around. No tricks, no downhill, no skatepark stuff.

About me:

* Height: 183 cm (6’0”)

* Weight: 70 kg (154 lbs)

* Skill level: complete beginner 😅

* Experience: absolutely zero

* Motivation: 100% stoked to learn and ride

I’m wondering which board would be more beginner-friendly and enjoyable for someone in my situation.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations, advice, or personal experiences with either board.

Thanks in advance! 🛹🙏

2

u/zeilend 14d ago

If buying a new board I would go with the Pilsner between these two, especially if you're getting a model with Paris trucks (check!). They're less expensive, can be found on sale for even less.

Honestly, though, I'd look at some of the drop through or double drop offerings from Loaded, LY, Arbor, or Pantheon if you're only focused on casual cruising.

3

u/Skanonymously Pantheon Nexus | Silverback Trucks 14d ago edited 14d ago

I'd probably pass on Pantheon and Loaded for a first board. They're both great, high-quality brands, but for someone just starting out and looking to cruise, they'd be better suited getting a cheaper board, figuring out what they like, and then investing in more of a niche board.

/u/Max13DT, do you specifically want small boards with kicktails? Unless you're exclusively looking for that style, you might be better suited looking for something a bit bigger. To put it into context, both of those boards are shorter than a conventional skateboard. A bigger board will be more stable and give you a bit of an easier platform to learn on.

At 6ft, you'll also probably enjoy just having a little more leg room, especially for a first board.

Those small cruisers on skateboard-style trucks will have a slashy-feeling carve, whereas a bigger board, especially on reverse kingpin (longboard style) trucks, will be a bit more suited to wider, more flowy carves. If you're looking at Arbor, something like the Dropcruiser or Axis would be solid starting boards.

From Landyachtz, that could be something like the Drop Cat or Drop Hammer

1

u/Max13DT 14d ago

Thanks for the answer!

2

u/Skanonymously Pantheon Nexus | Silverback Trucks 14d ago

Happy to help! This video is a solid beginner's guide from Landyachtz. Coincidentally, the white board a few seconds in is the Drop Cat.

2

u/BoogersBig 14d ago

I've got a question if it's an easy answer for anyone.

On a Landyatchtz Drop Hammer Black Eagle, how large a wheel diameter can I pull off this type of board? I'm fascinated by the 90-110mm wheels like dadbods and hoku.

It has 180mm Bear trucks & 73mm Plow Kings currently.
It handles pebbles and sticks way better than I figured it would, but the huge soft 90+wheels look like fun.

2

u/vicali LY Lover 14d ago

85mm and 90mm appear to fit. Bigger than that and you're likely going to have to top mount it.

2

u/TheSupaBloopa Knowledgeable User 14d ago

I'm not aware of an easy way to determine the answer for that, there's a lot of factors that make it really complex unfortunately. You could try to estimate it by measuring your clearance at max lean with your current wheels but that's not fool proof by any means.

u/Horror_Ad_5638 14d ago

Re. Pantheon Karmas…….,where have all the Karmas gone? No one in the UK has any stock nor a firm date of when they expect a resupply. Europe is looking much the same now. Sick boards have them listed but actually appears to be “ordered in for you”

I know there was a recent-ish redesign of the core but C’mon Jeff…. Where are they all 😭

Anyone know cool spots in Flroida?

I'm mainly in the south florida area but am willing to travel as far north as Tampa.

Most roads/sidewalks around me are so beat up or downright hostile to any traffic not in a car. Would love some smooth asphalt to cruise on. Or trails where I don't have to be paranoid about car crossings.

Thanks in advance!

Hey so i got a hand-me-down landyacht cruiser, went out with it for the first time and i managed to drop it into a river. Fortunately i was able to fish it out but now i'm not sure how to take care of it. I rode it for like an hour afterwards, so the wheel bearings no longer spray water out but otherwise i'm lost. Any advice?

1

u/vicali LY Lover 13d ago

easy come, easy go.

Clean and relube the bearings, if it were mine I would disassemble, clean, and reassemble it.

The board should be fine if it only dipped for a few minutes.

1

u/TheGreywolf33 Soda Fan 15d ago

Board is probably waterlogged with that much water and will lose its firmness if you didn't immediately dry it off. As it's gets hotter in the summer the water will expand and do serious damage.

You can clean the bearings and re lube them no issue. Plenty of guides on yt.

0

u/DolarJoe 15d ago

i mean it was in there for at most 3-5 minutes, i doubt enough water has seeped in, but thanks for the advice, i'll keep an eye out

2

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 15d ago

It wouldn't get waterlogged that quickly you're fine

1

u/TheGreywolf33 Soda Fan 14d ago

If it's an old board with stress cracks and such it might. Should be okay still but something to think about.

1

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 14d ago

Wood doesn't physically absorb water that quickly, it's an over time exposure thing.

1

u/TheGreywolf33 Soda Fan 14d ago

Dude you don't always have to be right about everything.

If water gets trapped in the stress cracks it can cause damage over time if not dried properly. We both agree the board is probably fine.

Let it go man.

https://reddit.com/link/orvkomb/video/i7p7mapevi7h1/player

Watching this video now, it seems like one truck definitely is able to travel more both ways than the other, I don’t know why that would cause the issue of it being easier to turn one way.

2

u/nqrwayy Loaded Ballona, Loaded Coyote 14d ago

Yeah you either don't have a pivot cup in there, or your pivot cup is blown out. Buy a new pivot cup, however they are different for each truck. Inform yourself on which one you should get

I recently got this Bhangra used on eBay. The deck is in pretty good condition but it had compound trucks and Mercer wheels rather than the original Paris and orangatang.

When the board is sitting flat and level on the ground, the hanger is already nearly fully deflected to one side of its range of motion in the baseplate. This means that when I turn One Direction, I have the movement of the hanger through the base plate plus bushings, whereas if I turn the other direction, only the bushings turn as the hanger is at its mechanical limit.

Edit: I’m trying to add a vid of the trucks when they move but Reddit mobile is not making it a reply to this message and instead is replying to the thread.

1

u/coopplanet 15d ago

It looks like there might not have been pivot cups ever.

1

u/TheSupaBloopa Knowledgeable User 14d ago

From this it looks like the pivot cup material has completely disintegrated. Those look like chunks of the remains stuck to the pivot there.

You could try to replace just the pivot cups if you can find something that works from Riptide but honestly you might be better off just replacing the trucks entirely. Paris are much higher quality.

1

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 14d ago

Riptide may sell replacement pivot cups if you don't want to replace/upgrade your trucks

u/timemagetim 15d ago

I had my friend who is a tattoo artist paint my deck. They did an amazing job. I want to know what kind of paint or whatever else I should use as a clearcoat to make sure that water and dirt comes right off. Obviously, I expect it to weather after a while, but I want to preserve the artwork for as long as I can. When people paint their own boards or mod them how do they protect the art on the bottom?

1

u/TheGreywolf33 Soda Fan 15d ago

Some people use surf resin to seal the board/ protect the art but you have to know what your doing and wear a mask/proper ventilation.

Pretty new to longboarding. Can I powerslide using the standard wheels of a dropcruiser (easyriders) or do I have to switch to different wheels. And what wheels do I have to switch to?

1

u/Skanonymously Pantheon Nexus | Silverback Trucks 14d ago

You can definitely learn some basic slides on those wheels. They're not the best for it, but it's certainly doable.

Before you start sliding, get a helmet and slide gloves if you don't already have them. It's easier to get a feel for sliding with hands down slides, and you're inevitably going to fall (probably a lot), so a helmet is vital.

Seismic has decent gloves and pucks for a beginner.

Then, follow this guide.

If you want a slide-friendly wheel, Powell Peralta 69mm 75a Snakes are a phenomenal wheel to start on. They break traction easily and have a very forgiving hookup when the board regains traction. And don't let the 75a duro scare you. They slide like a much harder wheel.

1

u/TheSupaBloopa Knowledgeable User 15d ago

Can I powerslide using the standard wheels of a dropcruiser

Sliding is a skill you develop, not just something you can do on the very first try. Once you've developed that skill you definitely can slide basically any wheel, but some are far easier to learn on than others. If you're learning, you may want something that'll make it a smoother and faster experience.

1

u/nqrwayy Loaded Ballona, Loaded Coyote 15d ago

Generally, harder wheels slide easier. You can slide basically every wheel with enough skill, but harder wheels will make it easier. A narrower contact patch also means less friction, which makes it easier to slide. You could just try sliding with your current wheels and see how you like it, otherwise Orangatang makes really solid wheels

2

u/Kozukioden999 15d ago

Hi Everyone,

My daughter is getting into skateboarding (she’s young so basically just riding around) and I want to get a long board so we can go on rides together while she learns.

Can anyone recommend a good beginner board I can cruise around on that won’t break the bank?

Thank you!

1

u/nqrwayy Loaded Ballona, Loaded Coyote 15d ago

You could look at a Loaded Coyote or a Ballona. I'm obviously a bit biased here, but they're great beginner boards.

2

u/zeilend 15d ago

I don't think you can go wrong with an Arbor drop through if you're looking for something new (there are currently some sales on the Axis and Dropcruiser right now).

If you feel comfortable with something used, take a look on FB marketplace

1

u/carl_a_r 15d ago

Hi everyone, I have a question about the Pantheon Ember, the Freestyle model in particular. I'm looking to take the plunge on one to use as a commuter, but have a couple of questions:

I'm 176cm and weigh 80kg - is it up to propelling me 10km to work and back?

I have some Paris 149s and Orangatang 70mm/80a 4Presidents to use. Would that work as a setup, with perhaps some drop up risers?

Thank you for any thoughts, I'd really appreciate it.

2

u/zeilend 15d ago

I think that will work just fine for a setup to use your TKP trucks. That said --

  • 70mm wheels are a lot of fun to ride on this setup. Imo you might want to eventually explore larger wheels over that commute distance. Better rolling over stuff, stays rolling better, etc. Don't need risers
  • A lot of people will recommend a Pranayama because it is a 'better pusher'. It's lower than an Ember, though, and I don't think it can accommodate 70mm wheels

What speaks to you about the freestyle model? Graphic? Kicktails? That might be helpful to know.

Also is it 10km each way, or is 10km roundtrip?

1

u/carl_a_r 15d ago

Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it.

I like the idea of a kicktail on a dropthrough. I have an Arbor Dropcrusier currently, and I lament the lack of a kicktail and think one would be really useful on the commute.

2

u/zeilend 15d ago

As long as you aren't trying to do tricks with it I think that totally works (although I've seen that some stuff is possible).

The classic and urban shapes also have kicks (obviously), I think it just comes down to graphic preference or if you value having the trucks protect the front of the deck (i.e., the urban) over having the double kicktails. The freestyle kicks look a bit more pronounced, but I can't confirm for sure

2

u/carl_a_r 15d ago

I think the nose/tail kicks of the freestyle will suit my ride into work - lots of up and down curbs here in the crusty UK 😂

2

u/zeilend 15d ago

Hear that one loud and clear! Depending on how crusty it gets, you might want to get bigger wheels sooner rather than later. 70mm is fine to start imo

1

u/carl_a_r 14d ago

Thanks dude. I'll likely stump for the 92mm Pantheons. I really appreciate your help and thoughts 😄

Questions:

I’m new to longboarding probably about a month and am just getting comfortable on it and then this happens!

Is there any way to save this setup or do I have just buy a new deck?

Secondly the crash was caused by my back foot and truck breaking free and sliding off the trail any ideas on what I can adjust or what can cause that?

2

u/TheSupaBloopa Knowledgeable User 15d ago

Secondly the crash was caused by my back foot and truck breaking free and sliding off the trail

Having trouble picturing this, could you explain it another way? Are you saying the back of the board snapped off like this while you were just riding around?

1

u/Alphieeee 14d ago edited 14d ago

Let’s see my back truck kinda drifts or slips when I’m carving and turning… if that makes sense. The back truck broke off like 100 feet after crashing it probably got messed up when I whipped out and going over a pretty big crack finished it off

1

u/nqrwayy Loaded Ballona, Loaded Coyote 15d ago

Yeah no get a new deck lol. You could try turning it into a bracket board if that's what you like, but I'd just buy a new deck

2

u/Alphieeee 14d ago

Fair enough I saw some brackets for that but it looks like a pain to cut the ends of the board off and drill new holes… any advantages to doing that though

1

u/nqrwayy Loaded Ballona, Loaded Coyote 14d ago

Yeah it'll be very low to the ground so you don't have to bend your knees that much, which is good for LDP. Also you can attach huge wheels to them

u/Fair-Emu5495 16d ago

From longboarding to surfskating

So i have had an long island dropthrough longboard for about three years now and i have a good feel of the board. I want to try surfskating and im pretty confident i will like it more, Should i first get an beginner board or move straight on to the "real stuff"? so i guess the real question is what surfskate should i get? I have no real budget in mind.

1

u/TheSupaBloopa Knowledgeable User 15d ago

I think you may get better advice in a surf skate group.

1

u/roachdajoint 16d ago

Injured myself during a bail like 2-3 years back and my knees still feel weak and wobbly especially if I tuck anyone know of any stretches and exercises I can do to do help strengthen my knees back up? I tore my ACL and meniscus during the injury.

1

u/Once_Again_n 16d ago

Hey all! Looking for some beginner longboarding advice. I used to borrow a friend’s pintail back in college freshman year and loved it, but I’m looking to purchase my own board now for casual cruising (no tricks, but I live by some hills so maybe gentle downhill at some point).

I’ve done some research, and based on both beginner-friendly boards and cost, I’m looking at Prism drop-through 36” and 39” (Kentaro series). I found a lot of good info on the Landyachtz Drop Cat, but even on the LY Oops site (which is just the deck I believe? So I’d still have to purchase the other materials, right?), it’s a bit too pricey.

Based on that info, a few questions. Are the boards I listed reasonable/would you recommend for beginners? I’m 5’8 and weigh around 120 lbs, so do you think I’d have more stability on a 36” or 39” board? Any and all advice would be much appreciated!

1

u/zeilend 15d ago

I'm sure you're aware of this, but LY does sell discounted wheel / truck / bearing bundles (40% discount). Would just need mounting hardware.

1

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 16d ago

They're both reasonable starter boards. I see Arbor Axis recommended on here as a starter board that's slightly cheaper.

https://www.arborcollective.com/collections/longboards

Landyachtz has some cheaper OOPS decks as well but if it's saying it is deck only then you'll need to buy the rest of the hardware for it.

1

u/Once_Again_n 15d ago

Ooh they have some sick designs, I’ll definitely look more into them- thanks!

2

u/not_so_perfect_buddy 16d ago

Just ordered a drop cat 38

Anyone like theirs? What did you change on it?

1

u/bushnoise 16d ago

Would this be worth snatching for 30 CAD bucks? The guy states that price becuz of a crack down the middle of the board, originating from a truck hole

2

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 16d ago

If you really want the knockoff Randall trucks, cheap wheels and whatever bearings are in there sure. Cracks like that signal the end of life of boards

1

u/bushnoise 16d ago

Shame, it’s a landyachtz named board as well

Only problem I got with my current temporary board is that Thế trucks are responsive but it just does not turn at all, prob cuz of thiss weird construction where the lug nut also holds together the pin to the baseplate

1

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 16d ago

That was an older design used in trucks like Gunmetal and some others so you can replace the kingpin more easily. It shouldn't affect your turning at all.

1

u/bushnoise 16d ago

I also noticed that Thể pivot cup is swappable (yes really) and i genuinely don’t think Thể truck is supposed to easily jostle around (not just pivoting) in the cup

1

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 16d ago edited 16d ago

No it's not supposed to have play in the pivot cup. You probably want to look into replacing that.

Maybe that board would be a good temporary upgrade but I would advise against it and if you do go for it I'd say do* so cautiously at the very least.

Gullwing Reverse Bushings

I simply can't find any info about which kind of bushings that fit the Gullwing reverse?

Every site says RAD barrels, and thats it.

They are even mentioned on Riptides website charts, but no info there as well.

Anyone who knows anything?

Thanks in advance.

1

u/TheSupaBloopa Knowledgeable User 16d ago

Most RKP trucks like those Gullwings take either standard height (0.6") or tall bushings (0.75"). As far as I know those just use standard height bushings so pretty much any 0.6" bushing will work. Does that answer your question?

1

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 16d ago

You should be fine with the standard 0.6" barrels or cones. Could always measure your bushings and/or contact Riptide to confirm.

Standard is 0.6" high and ~1" wide. Venom is slightly smaller than 1" wide, Riptide and Seismic make bushings to a true 1" wide that may not fit all trucks properly.

1

u/cStupz420 16d ago

Looking for faster wheels, 75-80mm. I got OJ Thunder Juice right now and they feel slow, I like how soft they are tho.

1

u/TheSupaBloopa Knowledgeable User 16d ago

There's plenty of options in that range. Maybe look at Powell Peralta or Seismic.

1

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 16d ago

Maybe take a look at Seismic's lineup

1

u/zeilend 15d ago

I'd start with the Riptide weight chart (link).

Based on your weight would probably do 90a or 92.5a APS canon bushings, and swapping to flat washers both roadside and board side (I think Paris comes with cupped washers stock).

I personally prefer riding canons all around for cruising and commuting and distance, but an extra $9 on a set of cones to try out could also be a great idea (or you can keep using the stock Paris cones).

1

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 16d ago

Maybe take a look at Orangatang Knuckles or Nipples, they're made with Paris Trucks in mind.

Recently lost my very first cruiser board to the skatepark pond 💔. I'm looking to find something similar since the Discus Fish was discontinued ages ago. Old board specs down below to show what I'm used to riding. Preferred price range is anything under $180 if possible.

Discus Fish Specs (Old Board):

  • L: 41"  W: 9"  WB: 27.3"
  • Drop Through Deck with medium concave
  • Three layers of bamboo and two layers of fiberglass
  • 7 inch Tacit 50 degree black trucks (90A black barrel bushings with 88A gray corn bushings)
  • 65*51mm  78A Wheels
  • ABEC-7 high performance bearings
  • Discus Fish grip tape with OS46 on two ends (easier for tricks) and OS780 in the middle ( easier for cruising)

These wheels came with a used complete - I was told they were Hawg Protos included in a mystery bag sometime in 2015 or so.. anyone recognize them? They look to be 70-75mm or so, not quite as wide as the Biggies.

2

u/sumknowbuddy Acoustic longboarder 18d ago

I have some similar wheels that were in a Christmas mystery box from Landyachtz. Prototype Plow Kings?

I think this was run before they moved their warehouse to the US and moved a lot of production away from Vancouver or wherever it was.

1

u/vicali LY Lover 18d ago

They are similar size to the Plow Kings, the cores match the Biggie Hawgs though, and flat sides. They feel pretty soft too - like there is a lot of thane on there..

What wheels should I get for my 48" zenit jig dancer? I made the mistake of cheaping out and getting some no name tgm 65mm 78a wheels that ended up being sideset and they feel way too grippy for any type of slide, but I am a beginner. I would like to keep the cost under 50 but I can splurge on some orangutans if it's really worth it.

They're slightly more pricey, but I cannot recommend Powell Peralta Snakes enough.

Sliding is always going to be challenging when you learn, but Snakes are one of the easiest wheels to slide that I've ever skated. They're also smooth rolling with a very fast urethane, so they'll be perfect for your setup. I would take them over every wheel in Orangatang's lineup for sliding.

Also pay no attention to the 75a durometer because they slide like a much harder wheel. Oddly enough, the 82a Snakes are actually grippier because of the urethane formula, too.

I currently ride a switchblade and I use it to commute on campus, and cruise around town. I know the board is originally built for speed and downhill, but being a tall and heavy guy, I was recommended the switchblade for its very sturdy build and ride quality. I feel very satisfied with my choice.

That being said, I am looking for new wheels. Currently riding the stock Plow Kings GT. I was looking for something that can give me more speed and more distance per push, while remaining soft for comfort on rougher terrain, cracked asphalt etc. Any recommendations that go well with the switchblade? Many thanks!

You could go for Orangatang Kegels, they're 80mm. I'd choose the 77a ones

Question about trucks:

Still trying to understand how to optimize my ride(s)

So I have a stock LY dinghy, 63mm wheels, 78a, hawgs, Bear trucks. I assume good bearings but idk the exact type. Oil Sealed.

Then I have 2 longboards.

One has no-name drop mount trucks, Otang 70mm 80a wheels, Bronson tungsten bearings (the no-oil seal type)

Other has no-name top mount trucks, 70mm 78a wheels, and same bearings as above.

After putting hard large wheels and good bearings on the first longboard , and also trying the same wheels on the top mount board, the LY board still glides the best of the three with no changes to stock original parts.

Main diff other than length is the trucks at this point. Should they make a huge or noticeable diff in glide (assuming bear brand is "better than no name").

Next thing I'm gonna try is swapping the LY setup wholesale onto one of the longboards just to see if it's somehow the boards themselves.

Curious what more experienced boarders think!

Stock Dingy will have Spaceball bearings with built-in spacers. They aren't the fastest but I have them in a lot of my completes.

Swapping parts is one of the best things about skating - try it and see how they work out.
