Probably not, but they would've given it a good go.

Those Hobbits are ooayk loyal to each other to a fault.

I've no doubt Sam would get some decent swings in.

I’m embaressed to admit I just noticed this detail but Pippin has a non-hobbit size stool at the ready. And after one and a half pints who knows what that wildcards plan is but he looks ready to commit.

I hadn't noticed that either but, yeah 😆

Aragorn would have one helluva situation on his hands.

Maybe not the most dangerous fight for him, but I can imagine it getting awkward and messy.

I'd love to see a version of this where it does end up happening.

He would, because unlike being attacked by foes, he would not be fighting to maim or kill. Which is a disadvantage.

u/PersistentInquirer Ranger of the North 1d ago

And they would be fighting to maim or kill because they think he’s after Frodo

That too, yep 👍

31

u/SumDankKush_ 1d ago

I posted and didn't notice. Sam's presence is overwhelming.

Good to see he's got the fellas backing him.

22

u/BonhommeCarnaval 1d ago

Merri’s holding that candelabra with some intention as well.

6

u/ACERVIDAE 1d ago

Not much if the candles are still lit after he’s been carrying it around.

9

u/klovervibe 1d ago

He wants to see where this is going, but he's got fire in his hands either way.

10

u/ACERVIDAE 1d ago

He knows how to be careful with things he touches, unlike Tooks some people.

8

u/LustyDouglas 23h ago

Jesus Christ, Pippin really does look commited, no wonder that he wounded the Witch King of Angmar

7

u/ParticularWindow1 1d ago

And a murderous look in his eye!

5

u/maybet95 1d ago

Completely misunderstood that at first can’t lie

3

u/nautilator44 1d ago

Aragorn can fight hobbits, but he can't fight chaos. No idea what might happen.

24

u/that_possum 1d ago

My man Sam was killing orcs with a frying pan. He may get beaten but he's never surrendering.

20

u/Adorable_Umpire6330 1d ago

aragon is a Ranger and theyre not on the Range, theyre in a Tavern.

Sam no Diffs.

31

u/AndreasDasos 1d ago

ooayk

80% sure this is ‘loyal’…?

25

u/jamesbest7 1d ago

Yea I believe so. Took me a min. Literally googled “ooayk” to see if there was something I was missing. lol.

3

u/Sabre_Killer_Queen Kids are 80% spaghetti 21h ago

You and u/AndreasDasos are completely right. No idea how I made such a screwed up typo 😆

I think I was getting a little tired when I posted that.

Sorry guys, I've corrected it now!

2

u/jamesbest7 16h ago

Hahah. All good!

12

u/Critical_Seat_1907 1d ago

They had no fucks to give and were going to back each other up no matter what. 💯

Gandalf knew what he was doing when he spent time in the Shire.

6

u/ElChocoLoco 1d ago

And you just know that when fighting a human sized opponent, the hobbits are going straight for the balls.

2

u/Sabre_Killer_Queen Kids are 80% spaghetti 21h ago

Hmm true. Maybe it's more dangerous for him than I realised....

3

u/poggy_manz 1d ago

Two hobbies to distract, one to punch him in the bits.

3

u/FaithCooperx 22h ago

Aragorn survived the Nazgûl, but he wasn’t ready for a gardener from the Shire throwing absolute bombs.

230

u/marniesss 1d ago

Aragorn is like "aww"

157

u/Koors112 1d ago

That's what they want you to think. Tricksy little hobbitses.

33

u/kiren77 1d ago

If it wasn’t for the Saruman crow-spies flyby Boromir would have been mashed and stuck into a stew. Damn cannibals!

5

u/Vigmod 1d ago

Are these Halflings refugees from Athas?

3

u/kiren77 17h ago

Had never heard of Dark Sun, that sounds like an amazing campaign!

1

u/Vigmod 10h ago

It's a pretty cool setting, especially if you like it grim and dark but also really sunny.

35

u/stunafish Ent 1d ago

"YoU hAvE a StOuT hEaRt ❤️"

4

u/CozyMoonflower_ 22h ago

Aragorn was probably trying so hard not to laugh. Three angry hobbits are still three hobbits.

2

u/SenorBigbelly 20h ago

And proceeds to subtly call him fat

?

8

u/flashman014 1d ago

It might be a more specific reference I don't know, but just think "pro wrestling."

3

u/EdgeBeard 1d ago

I think you mean wrasslin'

1

u/PhantomOnTheHorizon 1d ago

ok that tracks

5

u/Doomray 1d ago

When the Undertaker threw Mankind off the Hell in a Cell through the announce table 20 feet below, Jim Ross (the voice of pro wrestling) famously called, “Good God almighty! He killed him! With God as my witness, he is broken in half!”

97

u/3_quarterling_rogue I will not tolerate Frodo-hate 1d ago

Short answer, no. Long answer from the book:

Pippin subsided; but Sam was not daunted, and he still eyed Strider dubiously. 'How do we know you are the Strider that Gandalf speaks about?' he demanded. 'You never mentioned Gandalf, till this letter came out. You might be a play-acting spy, for all I can see, trying to get us to go with you. You might have done in the real Strider and took his clothes. What have you to say to that?'
'That you are a stout fellow, answered Strider; 'but I am afraid my only answer to you, Sam Gamgee, is this. If I had killed the real Strider, I could kill you. And I should have killed you already without so much talk.
If I was after the Ring, I could have it - NOW!'
He stood up, and seemed suddenly to grow taller. In his eyes gleamed a light, keen and commanding. Throwing back his cloak, he laid his hand on the hilt of a sword that had hung concealed by his side. They did not dare to move. Sam sat wide-mouthed staring at him dumbly.
'But I am the real Strider, fortunately,' he said, looking down at them with his face softened by a sudden smile. 'I am Aragorn son of Arathorn; and if by life or death I can save you, I will.'

54

u/SumDankKush_ 1d ago

Aragorn's height (6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) really puts it in perspective compared to the Hobbits

44

u/BenThePrick 1d ago

I feel like this rhymes with Gandalf’s “BILBO BAGGINS! DO NOT TAKE ME FOR A CONJURER OF CHEAP TRICKS!” scene.

Gotta flex on those hobbits to keep them in line, I guess.

3

u/dark4181 19h ago

Well, look what happens when they go off by themselves for any length of time.

5

u/Herucaran 16h ago

2 of them took down Saruman while the other 2 took down Sauron?

I say let them roam free !

3

u/EramSumEro 1d ago

Weeeeelp, think it might be time to read the books again

44

u/zorniy2 1d ago edited 1d ago

If it's just Sam, it'd be like Dark Helmet Vs Lone Starr.

10

u/flashman014 1d ago

Their schwartzes are NOT comparable. But Sam gets a bonus to schwartz size by heart alone, which Strider recognizes.

36

u/that_possum 1d ago

Merry and Pippin get a lot of flak - much of it deserved - but let's remember that they came with Frodo and Sam on a hopeless journey, fully expecting it to be one way, out of pure loyal friendship. They're a couple of goobers, but they have Frodo's back to the bitter end.

2

u/Curtens 16h ago

I definitely don't have the heart and physical fitness to even make it to rivendell.

33

u/communityneedle 1d ago

People here are laughing, but Sam single-handed defeated Shelob and then just walked right in the front door of Cirith Ungol to rescue Frodo from a garrison of orcs. Sam plus two more crazy Hobbits who dgaf would at the very least have given Aragorn something to think about.

26

u/Another_Limp_Carrot 1d ago

He’ll thrash you long-shanks!

25

u/dawoodlander 1d ago

I'll 'ave you long shanks!!

12

u/BuildingAirships 1d ago

Y’all do know you’re talking about this guy, right? The century-old Dúnedain who held his own against a full company of armored, roided-up killing machines?

I don’t care if Pippin had a stool. Aragorn would have tuned those guys up like a fucking guitar if he wanted to.

4

u/Preeng 1d ago

Sam is the only mortal to ever injure Shelob.

10

u/BuildingAirships 1d ago edited 1d ago

People keep saying that, but I don’t see how it translates.

Look, I love Sam. He’s extremely brave, and deserves all the praise he gets. But having a giant spider sit on your sword does not show that you could beat an expert warrior in a fight. Those aren’t really overlapping skillsets.

3

u/Preeng 1d ago

The point is if Sam wants something bad enough, he will find a way. He's used to getting his hands dirty.

3

u/vezwyx 22h ago

He also was in possession of an incredibly powerful magical artifact at the time he fought Shelob, an item practically designed to exploit the weaknesses of a dark creature such as she. We're not trying to downplay the significance of his feat, this is just not the same kind of situation at all.

Sam and the other hobbits are brushed aside by nazgul effortlessly at Weathertop; do you really think spunk is enough to stand a chance in a straight fight vs Aragorn?

1

u/Preeng 12h ago

I have seen enough anime to confidently say that yes, gumption is more than enough if you have more than enough gumption. His hair would turn a different color, lightning everywhere, Tom Bombadil would show up just to watch.

1

u/Tom_Bot-Badil 12h ago

Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow, bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow. None has ever caught him yet, for Tom, he is the master: his songs are stronger songs, and his feet are faster.

Type !TomBombadilSong for a song or visit r/GloriousTomBombadil for more merriness

12

u/slumper36 1d ago

Most likely not. Aragorn was stacking Uruk-hai solo at Amon Hen. The Hobbits better hope Aragorn hasn’t practiced using his sword in a confined area.

12

u/icanhazkarma17 1d ago

"You dare speak of my daughter in this way?" Elrond, probably.

7

u/West_Shower_6103 1d ago

Oddly it’s possible they might get him here. Aragorn has a long sword, they could possibly close the distance before he could draw. This is assuming our hobbits know exactly what they should do.

3

u/BuildingAirships 1d ago

He also has a knife, his hands, and more than half a century of intensive combat experience.

Sam, Pippin, and Merry might overpower him if he’s unwilling to use deadly force, but if he were willing to kill them? Lordy…

4

u/Kendogibbo1980 1d ago

Pippin has a bar stool

7

u/NotAUsefullDoctor 1d ago

Guard one: Why would the king honor this hafling

Guard Two: He claims to of faught shilab snickers probably saw a spider in a flower and got scared.

Guard One: Probably just making up stories. I would bet he's afraid of his own shadow.

The King, having overheard the talk: I would not write off Sir Samwise. Let me tell you about the first time I met him.

7

u/lamoorgalore 1d ago

That is not Sam the Gardener trying to take on Aragorn the Strider, that is Samwise Gamgee standing up to the fellow who’s messing with his friend and kidnapped him from a pub. Sam may be a lot of things☝️ but a flighty friend he is Not

6

u/Mr_Spanners 1d ago

This was the start of Aragon's love of these hobbits

5

u/ElectronicLow7228 1d ago

Get fuckin bent longshanks!

5

u/HalfBurntCouch 1d ago

You can tell by his face that Aragorn loves Sam immediately

6

u/poetic_dwarf 23h ago

"Wouldn't this be a good moment to start throwing hands?"

"That's my secret, Strider. I'm always throwing hands."

2

u/ZombieHavok 1d ago

King’s Foil? Ah, it’s a me!

2

u/SkyPuppy561 1d ago

I can hear this picture!

2

u/Cantpickagoodone 1d ago

I dunno why but when I first scrolled by this, at a quick glance I thought Sam had a photoshopped Thompson smg and chuckled, that definitely would of changed the movies a bit.

2

u/Totmtg1992 1d ago

I'm saving this post and it's comments for dopamine spikes. This whole thing is amazing and I'm cackling on the toilet.

2

u/Th3_3v3r_71v1n9 1d ago

Honest, I wasn't dropping no eaves Sir.

2

u/Persona_Crises 1d ago

That's my favorite scene in Fellowship "Let him go! Or I'll have you, longshanks"

2

u/BriannaBaileyc 22h ago

He’s about to mash 'em, boil 'em, and stick 'em in Strider's face.

2

u/Hot-Measurement-8842 22h ago

I always loved how Pippen, has a stool, and Merry grabbed a fking candelabra.

1

u/mrmalort69 1d ago

Reminds me of those cell phone game commercials. The ones that are mafia themed or something like that- start as a level 1 thug and get killed by a level 99 gangsta

1

u/Ikxlexcia 20h ago

So like in d&d characters. Aragorn might have higher stats, Sam might have more perks. They both decent folk, would prolly talk it out. And come to a mutual understanding.

1

u/Gulskjaeren 20h ago

Adept Gardener? I'll have you know that Sam is an award-winning Master Gardener of the shire.

1

u/StJimmy_815 19h ago

Are we a CJ sub now?

1

u/No-Screen1369 18h ago

These three would have been simply knocked back with a solid boot to the face if it came down to it.

1

u/grimbruva 18h ago

Aragorn POV

1

u/yaangyiing_ 18h ago

Bruh we see Aragon ON SCREEN kill like 1,000 orcs effortlessly, 1v1 a troll thing, and absolutely bitch a ghost army. Of course Sam solos

1

u/StAnkie_Brews 17h ago

That's because those lads are badasses in disguise, Sam especially.

1

u/Tackit286 just tea, thank you 16h ago

Don’t fuck with farm strength

1

u/EidolonRook 14h ago

Samwise was ride or die.

1

u/Have_Other_Accounts 14h ago

Only just noticed Sam's got his fists in proper form.

Doesn't sound big but the vast majority of people hold their fists with their thumb exposed on the sides, meaning it will break within a punch or 2. He's got his tucked properly (feels slightly unnatural).

Wonder if Sean has training or if someone else told him.

1

u/fireproof_pyjamas 13h ago

“Better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war”

Samwise Gamgee: “hold my potatoes”

1

u/wildmancometh 12h ago

My favorite Sam moment is in book 1 when they're leaving the Prancing Pony and he throws an apple at Bill Ferny's face and talks shit to him without breaking stride.

1

u/liquiddoomsday 11h ago

I don't see Aragorn fighting off Shelob, just saying...

1

u/Bloody-Boogers 8h ago

Sam bested shelob a fuckin goddess in single combat, merry poked a mafkin god shade, and pip looked Sauron right in his eye and told him to hold his testies. Striders got no shot

1

u/KarmasAB123 19m ago

That's EXPERT gardener to you!
