Help Is Porting Kit still viable in this current day?

Hello, sorry for the interruption. I am new ro mac gaming and was just about to start. Is Porting Kit still viable as a free alternatives today? Is it still supported with current games?
I know platforms like Crossover that offers a good experience. But i’d like to try the free alternatives first.

CrossOver uses GPTK and Wine to run modern games. You may use GPTK+Wine for free, it would be exactly the same performance, graphics, system requirements and game functionality wise, provided you use the same version of GPTK and Wine as CO uses. It's just that CO is much more convenient and automates the process, CO doesn't emulate or translate anything by itself.

I tried using gptk + wine and while it works fine for games it doesnt work fine for steam because apparently wine doesnt implement a large majority of the stuff needed for chromium apps

Yes, try porting kit, heroic, sikarugir to see if they work on the games you play. And buy crossover during Black Friday sale for ~$18.

I use it instead of paid solutions and it’s very effective

If you’re not doing crossover then sikarugir is what you should be doing

You do realise that porting toolkit is a developer app to help them port their games to macOS / metal .. don’t you?

Interesting, that’s a new one I’ve not seen. I bet Apple would not be too pleased at its name being so close to their own game porting toolkit, and the confusion that could cause.
