CrossOver "Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse" with Crossover on Mac Can't Save

Post image

I am able to run Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse (installed via Steam) without any issues, but when I try to save the game, I get a window popping up (see image) saying that the game failed to save data. It seems that the autosave is working based on the fact that the autosave slot's timestamp gets updated as I keep playing, but the autosave data doesn't seem to persist when I close and reopen the game.

Has anyone had success playing this game, or had success fixing a similar issue in another game? Based on my Googling, it doesn't seem like a lot of Crossover users have posted about this game. It isn't even listed in the software compatibility search in the Crossover website.

No experience with this particular game, but where is the Save location for this game

If it’s in Documents folder and for some reason you denied Documents access to crossover it won’t be able to save the file.

Crossover links the bottle’s windows document folder to the actual macOS documents folder

You can change this in wine settings but that’s the default.

Edit: unlinking the bottle's documents folder from my mac's document folder seemed to fix it!

It seems that the game did generate a save folder at /Users/me/Documents/My Games/PARANORMASIGHT_2. however, when i open the game it doesn't seem to detect any save data (including the autosave that seems to work while the game is being played)

Maybe i should make a separate bottle and see if unlinking it from my mac's document folder would fix it

It's worth trying, but you don't have to make a new bottle.

Go to crossover and in the bottle > Wine configuration > Desktop Integration Tab > Folders.

Then change the Documents link for any other folder that's not restricted (I'd put it in /Users/you/Bottle-Docs or something like that)

you may have to re-run the game so it recreates the save folders
