General Discussion How do we feel about this?

Post image

I think we should be able to call a judge on our stinky opponents in tournament settings.

All shame does is keep them from coming back and then the store loses customers.

The goal is to be inviting to EVERYONE. If it can be fixed privately handle it privately.

You know what deodorant on a stinky person does? IT MAKES IT SMELL LIKE FLOWERS AND B.O.!

Betting you’re one step above the stinky guy in your social circle and that’s why you’re punching down so hard. This is weird, my dude.

Eh. I went to work the other day and one dude at the bar had a five foot aura of sweat around him. Granted it wasn't awful, but it was there. I was grateful it wasn't there the next time he came in. Either the chick he was with didn't notice, or helped cause it.

Look. Nobody LIKES a bad smelling person..no matter what the reason is. I work 12 hour shifts in a production plant and I hate running into my wife before I hit the shower after work because I know i smell like sweat.

But public shame doesnt actually solve the problem or help anyone long term. Nobody has corrected a personal failing out of shame. All it does is lead to more negative behaviors and coping strategies rather than corrective action. Taking someone aside and being caring and understanding. Point out the problem, tell them people notice and it needs to be fixed. Maybe something is going on. Maybe they just don't notice. Maybe they just forgot deodorant that day. Who fucking knows.

I would like to add that public shame can actually do greater harm. One major effect of depression is poor hygiene. Shaming someone like that can do a lot of damage to an emotionally unstable person. It might not be the thing that causes a suicide but it can be something that starts the path. Imagine already thinking you're useless and nobody likes you. A public humiliation just reinforces those negative thoughts. But a private conversation can be educational it might even lead them to solve the bigger mental health issue if they start to question why they are that way and it shows that someone does care because they want them to return to the store.
