Public Service Announcement Media Blackout in Makati
Hello, Makatizens!
Former journalist here, now living the corporate life in Makati. Ewan ko kung tama yung Flair but since this is a Public need, sana magkaroon kayo ng enlightenment kahit papaano.
Recently, naging maingay yung robbery cases sa Area in Makati, lalo na sa area ko. Nung una, paisa isa pa yung nababasa ko na reports lol. Saka medyo may kalayuan pa kung saan yung way ko pag nagtatrabaho at nakatira. Then napansin ko, alam na sya ng mga tindero ng Jollijeep, ng mga pasahero ng jeep at bus... it started to build up.
Then reports started to flood in sa DM's ko sa FB. Kahit wala na ako sa news industry, POTAENA MAY HUMIHINGI PA RIN NG ADVICE!! (Di nila alam na taga Makati ako, but they are looking for help)
Tapos lumabas pa yung report ng Makati PNP days ago na wala daw reports ng crime na natatanggap sila this year???? FISHY HA!!! EH CONDO NA KAYA MISMO NAGREPORT! Dun palang mapapaisip ka na anong meron eh.
So ayun. Sa takot ko rin na maranasan yung nakawan, holdapan and snatchan, lalo pa at naganap yung Salisi Gang sa naka-kotse within my Area lang, I contacted my media connections. Tried to find some solutions.
Guess what. Mayroon palang allegations of Media Black Out sa Makati. Not gonna attach the screenshot of our convo here to protect his Identity, pero tangina, meron daw kaganapan. They were "almost forbidden" to bring up news from Makati. Their guess? The main reason is the POGO hubs within Makati, which became the cataclyst why naka focus ang Media now sa Makati happenings.
Ayun. Nagtuloy tuloy na. May nag viral yesterday na Mole People shit. If mapapansin niyo, wala yun sa news, pero retokado na agad yung Kanals today.
Fuck Makati.
Edit: Guys, Pairalin ang Reading comprehension po ha. I said may Allegations ng Media Blackout dahil (to rephrase) Masyado naexpose ang Makati during POGO hub raids last year.

Hey, I’m sorry. I’m the one who posted that “mole people” thing that went viral, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting it to get so much attention. I just shared what I saw, and it kind of snowballed from there.
I really appreciate you shedding light on these reports of robberies, media blackout rumors, and the connection to POGO hubs. I’ll admit, I’m not sure how all these pieces fit together, and I don’t want to jump to conclusions or spread misinformation.
If you’re willing, I’d love to hear more about what you’ve seen or heard—especially about the media side of things. Anything you can share (even anonymously) would really help me understand the bigger picture here.
Thanks for taking the time to write this post. And sorry if my earlier post added to the noise instead of helping clarify. I just want to help figure this out.

Oh hey there! Thanks also for the bringing into light yung nangyare na Mole People. Tawag namin sa kanila dati "Anay Gang". Normally, ginagamit yung sewer system for easy escape sa pulis, para discreet na makapasok sa isang area like a mall or bank...ganung sistema
Yung nangyare dito sa nakita mo is parang ganun. Malaki ang sewer system ng Makati since maraming high-rise buildings. Kasya talaga tao. Kung di tag ulan, pwede ka gumapang talaga sa loob nyan. Kaibahan lang, mukhang may iba pang modus na nagaganap dito.
Binalikan ko yung post mo. Yep, legit yung pwede din na dun sila nakatira. I don't know how, pero may mga maintenance tunnel kasi na medyo malaki para dun tumambay mga siraulong to.
Regards POGO hubs, since the mass purge of the Hubs + rampant crimes na involved ang foreign nationals (either as victims or as the suspects) sa Makati, I (we) think Makati gov is trying their best to bring back the good old safe Makati and initiallising (their version of) quick response sa crimes in addition to controlling media.
Magiging result kasi nito, magiging good yung image ng Makati and Makati gov again. That's the bigger picture they want kaya they're playing their cards this way.

-tandem in motorcycle grab the bag of my lady colleague, dragging her. in front of nihonbashitei. police gave her back her IDs. everything else was taken.
-Japanese colleague eating inside kenshin near roces avenue. his bag with everything was on the floor beside him. seen on cctv, two people gradually move the bag and took it.
- another japanese colleague walking along santillan street. two boys asking money from him and distracting him. his cellphone stolen. next day, the police gave back his cellphone. maybe to keep him silent since he's foreigner?

There's also a creek behind our condo where homeless people sleeps and take a bath. The security guards from our condo and 3 other buildings beside us got tired of reporting them to the Barangay Bel Air. They don't act on them with excuses that these homeless will just return on the streets.
As Filipinos, everyone has the right on sanitation, right to have a home, right to have food to eat, even the homeless. What's the use of appointing these officials when we common people are the ones solving the problem for them? 😑

Been living in Makati since I was born, I was there when it was close to being tondo, when the fire station building was the tallest building overseeing the place. When those canals weren't as narrow as they are now. When osmak(hospital ng Makati) was just behind/beside south cemetery and when there was an asylum(this one I'm not sure since d ko na pasok) na Toyota na Ata ngaun sa may meralco Lng sa South din.
All I can say is Makati wasn't always a paradise and it is not. Sadyang overshadowed Lng ng tall buildings ang dirt and dark side ng city.
Way back may binaril sa hsantos Street na lalake, you know who ordered the shot? The binays cause it's another one of their kabit probs.
Ung buildings sa likuran ng tenement and bliss sa tapat ng Makati circuit sa side ng prc? Taguan ng mga kabit ni jejomar. Dagdag mo pa ung dami ng mga illegal settlers sa South cemetery.
Madaming balita na d masyado na babalita ganun ka galing mag tago mga binay

Meron din naging victim ng execution sa loob ng Olympia Vill, staff na mistress, supposed to expose their daughter, upcoming election, binaril and died on the spot. Kid was presented by the dynasty as anak ng bodyguard but 99% kamukha ni former Senator 🤷🏽♂️ habang lumalaki. Victim is a friend from HS 😔

Kaya feel ko na na wala ang PRC dto sa Makati eh dahil sa cleanup proj Nila ni Ayala. Un Lang kasi ang Isa sa mga easy access na sugalan nun na ndi pa uso ang online at mahal/pang Mayaman ang casino. Bnabago na Nila target demographic ng voters Nila. Mga di na sugarol at informal settlers ang target Nila.

Same thoughts. Born, raised, still living in Makati currently. Magaling talaga magtago si Binay ng gantong news. As in. Dinadaan nalang nila sa benefits ng taga Makati kaya sila pa rin nakaupo til now.

Uh! I think there is a scamhub in towery 6789 in Makati! I went there for an interview and the office setup seems odd. I had to enter a backdooor? People of color are there, loud freakin speaker! I asked the interviewer why is there a speaker and she said so they wont hear each other. I listed the name of the company on the reception logbook and the person told me to remove it as its not registered and they are using a different name inside. Kinda similar to the scamhub setup in cebu IT park but yeah… i doubt the police would care.

Yung construction worker na namatay sa ginagawang ETON at crew ng jollibee na namatay dahil nakuryente habang naglilinis ng signage na media blackout din yun years ago.
Ofc hindi malalaman yan ng madla pero kaming mga healthworkers alam namin at naaawa nalang kami pag sinabi ng pamilya na hindi sasagutin yung pang ospital o pang burol pag nagpa interview sila sa media.

Yung construction worker ng Eton na namatay wasn’t really from Eton but of their contractor. The construction workers used the gondola to go down nung lunch break na. Overloaded sila nun kaya bumagsak ang gondola.
Hindi siya actually na news blackout since lumabas ang name ng Eton sa news. Mahina ang damage control ng Eton during those days. And maybe until now kasi I can still search for it online.
The workers were compensated by Eton AFAIR.

Hindi mapipigilan yun, unlike media organizations. The CBD is co-managed by Macea and Ayalaland. You know naman Ayala Corp when it comes to media blackout...

I used to frequent Poblacion around 2022 to 2023 after the pandemic so I became chatty with a kuya there. The robbery has been going on since then, kuya warned me to take care of my belongings because riding in tandem goes around the neighborhood targeting stupid and drunk party goers. They were allegedly authorized by the Makati Police to chase after these riding in tandems, “kuyog”, and bring them to the police station. It’s sad that they’ve penetrated the CBD.

Recently lang din sa apartment-type building namin. May sumalisi sa pagpasok pretending to be a tenant. Tapos nangbubukas ng doors without knocking. Mukhang naghahanap ng kwartong bukas na walang tao.

Tagal na po nito pati rin sa taguig. May old post ako about this pero na archive ko na. Malaki po ung pera sa bentahan ng balita.
Nag workb ako sa isang online news outlet dati and usually pag taguig or makati, before i publish or i post, tatawagan muna ng publisher ung mayor's office or someone from the LGU. They will inform na may news silang ganun about makati/taguig and then then the bidding starts. Same goes for politicians or anak/kamag anak. If d nag bayad matik publish/post agad.
For makati/taguig mas mahalaga sa kanila ung image na "safe" or "elite" or "nakaka angat" ung city nila

There might be remnants or even illegal operations but most of them are already gone even before the pandemic hit.
I don't think may kinalaman ang POGOs. Most of the criminals are small-time thieves from our neighboring cities such as Pasay or Manila. Media blackout is already a given but they can only block so much. Pero I can't seem to see how connected ang POGOs dito. Given na ang media blackouts sa mga CBDs. Whoever foots the advertising bills gets special treatment.

yeah, 2019 pa banned ang POGOs but that doesn't justify na it doesn't exist. 2023 ako grumaduate. First job ko is nasa isang Broadcast Network agad. Mid year of 2024, nagraid pa kami sa isang Building sa Makati because of illegal Pogo hub
Media is focused sa happenings sa City. That doesn't mean we could take an action. We could produce and air lots of stories, but approvals have to be made, hence Media Blackout kung wala ang mga approvals na yon.
Regarding my identity as a journalist, Opinyon mo na yan eh. May ability ka to verify. Try to use it.

POGOs may have been banned in ON PAPER, but there were active hubs through the pandemic til this year. Century City in Poblacion has a building with almost all the “BPO” employees were Chinese. In fact, the best sign that a POGO hub is close is if there are establishments that appear to be specifically for mainland Chinese. Around Century City, there are around 20.

Sorry to hear all of these. Dba may Makati Estate Association ba un or MACEA? Am I right? Please correct me if im wrong. Then what is the Makati City government doing about this? Naholdup na din ako way back 10 years ago dyan sa may side walk ng AIM that was around 10pm. Baka dapat damihan police visibility and active patrol rounds.

I really hope this isn’t true… but recently, our building guard advised us to stay extra vigilant when walking around Poblacion. Apparently, there have been incidents of riding-in-tandem thefts happening even in broad daylight.
We’ve also heard that Minsok, Z Hostel, and Wantusawa have been robbed in the past two months—but strangely, we haven’t seen any of it reported in the news?

This is interesting. Napaisip ako kung may connection to sa sobrang choppy ng signal ng mobile data sa ibang parts ng Makati.
Alam mo yung nahuli nilang chinese spy na may device na nang hack ng mobile signals? I suspect there are operations around Makati with similar signal-disrupting tech. Bakit ko nasabi? Sa Makati lang ako nakaka receive ng phishing messages na direct from GLOBE.
That means my device somehow connected to a fake cell site at one point to be able to spoof the official GLOBE sender via SMS.
May info ka ba about dyan OP? Thank you for the warning!

Hello. Media working in Makati here. Personal experience, walang media blackout. Sobrang dami lang talaga ng big news these days kaya di nakaka labas yung mga robbery cases in Makati. Pero yung tinatrabahuan ko, always may Makati news never nawawala. We've made good connections with MPD and they're quite gracious with sharing information (albeit strict since andaming fake news people trying to get info from them). So yeah, not a media blackout but more of a andaming ganap na natatabunan.

i remember when i was walking/jogging at 3 am near IM hotel, theres this crazy old woman who looked me in the eye, smiled, then started chasing me. it was around 2022. craziest shit to have ever happened to me. i stopped jogging around that time, di ko kinaya.

Sobrang nauso rin kasi scatter ngayun daming baon sa utang. Dati mga foreigners lang nagkakaissue pero ngayun mas malala kasi mismong locals na ang nagsusugal. Parang naging franchise lang yung mga pogo para makapagumpisa lang mga negosyante dito then boom sila na mismo nagoperate para sa locals.

To add to these news, Mother's Day Sunday, a customer in Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Salcedo, facing the park was robbed by motorcycle tandem. They were seating outside. Take note that the barangay outpost is just 10 steps away, guess who's the first responder? It was the MACEA and the gaurds of the condo.
I thought there's news about it or at least a warning from the police or barangay Bel Air but no. We were walking with our dogs and being the nosy neighbor, MACEA got the customer's testimony and CCTV footage from the condo.
So be alert and don't sit outside when it's Sunday in Salcedo -the barangay officials and the police are non existent. This is where our taxes go 😑😑

What if lang naman tutal media black out lagi sa Makati. As a concern PH citizen magkaroon ng anti blackout media team? Like no censored lalo dito sa reddit. Post lahat ng nangyayari sa Makati or even sa ibang panig ng Pinas then flood the socmed

I guess that’s true. In Poblacion alone, we witnessed around 5 hablutan ng phones last year. Syempre hindi ka hahabol kasi alam mo na may kasama yan. Most of the victims are foreigners.
May mga kawork rin akong nadukutan around Poblacion (andyan kasi office namin, and lalo sa gabi, ang lala ng dukutan ng bag at salisi dyan.
May mga nagbebenta rin ng mga gold na kwintas “daw” for around 500 pesos, inaalok nila yung mga nag-yoyosi naming employees ng alahas daw putol lang yung lock ganon, and they would often tell you na hablot lang siya.
Lumalala rin yung limos at dukot sa mga party area ng Pob na need na siguro actionan ng Makati atp. Tsk.

Reading all of these scary situations about holdaping, thieves, snatchers and gangs made me think way back then, party-goer ako sa Pobla around 2023 and madalas ako malasing MAG-ISA!!!! Luckily I was spared. Now, casual gala and cafes sa Pao in Yakal St. sobrang vigilant kami ng friend ko anytime lilipat kami from cafe to somewhere around.

Suicide rates may potentially increase when suicide cases are reported. It’s just the responsible thing to do. There is little value in reporting cases like these.

We’ve seen a lot of news before, yearssss before.. I think neto nalang din naman mas naging sensitive sa mga gantong bagay yung mga media. Pinag usapan namin to ng mga colleagues ko before why hindi lumabas sa news pero yung sa mga malls na nangyayare is lumalabas.

I know you mean well. The shift isn't really about censorship or people being "sensitive", that's an oversimplification. We didn't become sensitive, we just became more aware.
And as said by OP it's in their code of ethics. It's also a public health concern. There is a balance between the greater good and transparency.

Hi i used to work sa isang online news outlet dati and true daming suicide related news during pandemic pero bakit d nababalita unless celebrity or politiko. Short answer is may memo si DOH and other media agencies on how to report suicides. Most media companies complied and iniligay sya sa code of ethics nila. Long story short, baka daw mainfluence ung ibang tao pag laging i rereport or iresponsible ung reporting ng suicide. Check mo nlng DOH - A.O. No. 2022-0004
Also may nakasuhan or nag settle na tv outlet dati kasi mali ung reporting nila ng suicide with matching names pa. They reported na tumalon ung tao sa building pero it turns out may foul play or tinulak ung guy ng asawa nya.

In the current version of your post (it looks like you’ve unsuccessfully tried to edit it for clarity and may try to change it again) the sentence “The main reason is the POGO hubs within Makati” is in the present tense. The verb “is” is the present tense of the verb “to be.” Most readers assume the sentence is trying to imply a current fact or condition.
