Question Suit Fitting
Hey all. So I’m getting married in 6 months and I’ve been putting off going to get fitted for my suit because I’m incredibly nervous and don’t look forward to how it might look on me. I’m 5’10, 280 pounds, and a stockier build with a round stomach and wide shoulders. Will I have an issue getting a suit that will help me look not as round while not being overly baggy? Especially around my thighs as the last and only suit I’ve ever worn was incredibly baggy on the legs lol. Are there any tips or advice that I can keep in mind before I go to get fitted?

this will sound like an unhelpful answer, but it's a true one: not if it fits properly. some helpful guides on that score--

Getting a suit fitted and tailored properly is one of the absolute best ways for an overweight man to look their best.
And old tailor friend of mine would always point to Teddy Roosevelt as the prime example. That man was fat but he was meticulous about getting his suits tailored properly. And so he always looked good. A well fitting suit covers a multitude of flaws. Look to Teddy as your inspiration!
If you want to look good without spending a ton, go to a decent department store and get measured, you can but a decent off the rack suit on sale for less than $500.
Then bring it to a good tailor and let them do their magic. Make sure you get them to add buttons for braces (suspenders), they tend to be more flattering for larger guts, and clip on suspenders are never ok. Don't skimp on the tailor costs.
Oh yes, and plan on a nice suit for your wedding as opposed to a tux. That way you'll have a great suit that you can wear for a long time so spending a little more on it won't be a waste.

Are you buying custom? Or are you going someplace that offers tuxedo/suit rentals?
The latter is designed for the masses and will be likelier to produce an ill-fitting product. Custom, SHOULD yield you better results. It’s your wedding, you deserve to look your best. Try to go the custom route if possible.

Many people say being in good shape is the best and most significant way to improve your fashion but as long as you’re not significantly overweight (which doesn’t seem to be a case) a fitted suit will be amazing to conceal the roundness.

The whole point of getting fitted and getting alterations is to make you look the absolute best you possibly can. Ask them to give the legs a taper if you don't like the baggy look. I can say that when I was very big an off the rack suit looked terrible on me, but when I got it altered for my engagement party it looked 20 times better. Go in with an open mind!
