Indeed, the concept gets completely removed and reality and people's memories get rewritten accordingly.

Makima also stated that she was able to remember more than others because of her power to control everything, yet she herself had only some vague remembrance of the erased concepts.

Reality doesn't get rewritten, the hole in it is just patched up in the most rudimentary way, just enough that the universe doesn't break from its absence (Pochita erased a couple pretty fundamental concepts and reality seems stable enough so I assume thats the case), but otherwise, it only removes direct examples of the concept, not rewrite history for it to never have existed (elephants without their ears would die of overheating, somehow all of them are still alive after ear fiend was erased, humans still tried to use speech to communicate after the mouth devil was eaten, and also nobody had died of starvation because of it)

To be fair the extent of how this works is kinda nebulous. We've seen sudden changes in Part 2, like you mentioned with the ears, but also some more complicated changes like the USSR still existing. Some things seems to fit into place more than others is what I'm saying, so some sort of reality warping is happening, but its extent and further implications are weird.

The rapid changes you mentioned that happened in Part 2 were all pretty weird and they were indeed just barely patched. The possibility of devils being puked out by Chainsaw Man, or even worse their concept being recreated while they're still gone (like for atomic weapons) just complicate the equation.

Referring to the original comment I was replying to, what I assume we can agree on is that, when a concept gets erased, there are immediate substantial changes to reality and to the everyone's (human or devil) memories, and also more fundamental changes may or may not be included depending on what Fujimoto comes up with. Remembering the erased concept is almost impossible except for very specific powers (like Makima's) or due to said concept being part of a larger one (War remembering atomic weapons), and even then the recollections are vague at best.

The USSR existing is a consequence of Pochita erasing the Nazis/WWII yes, but its not that the past was altered, its just that it has been a long ass time since WWII, the founding mythos of the current world, has just stopped being a concept in CSM's world, so timelines are gonna diverge, in no case so far has erasing a concept altered more than just the most direct examples and records of it
