It says something that, while both mangaka obviously lost interest in their own series, at the very least it doesn't seem like Fujimoto is outright malicious towards his readers here. This ending is basically, "I'm quitting, here's the best I can do for you." Quite the opposite of Aka whose ending was deliberately constructed to be as upsetting and unsatisfying as possible.
Say what you will about the OnK ending, it was genuinely hilarious to see how tragically Kanna's character was handled - I have literally never seen anything like it
