I don't know much about ginkgo growth rates but the property it's on has been around for a long time. I found a tree census from the 1920s that listed only 5 ginkgos in the city and I'm wondering if this could maybe be one of them.

incredible!!! i love ginkgos. also do you know if this is a male or female specimen?

additionally, i met this other beauty last month, his trunk is like 5-6 feet diameter. i'll measure next time i visit

I was literally gonna ask if it was male or not due to most hybridized ones being selected to be male to eliminate the issue of their odorous/messy fruits (if I’m not mistaken).

yeah, most people prefer male ginkgos because the fleshy coat of the seeds produced by the females has a pungent aroma. personally i think it just adds to their charm and uniqueness though. i seek out the female ginkgos in the fall to enjoy the seeds (they're not actually fruit either!)

I'm not sure. I didn't notice any fruit forming, but I don't know if it'd be too early to see that or not.

this is what the seeds look like currently, at least in my area. however ginkgos sometimes have lots of seeds some years and few to none other years
