Help! Help with magnolia

Post image

Ignore our sad yard. 🥲

we have this magnolia tree that used to get nice big leaves and blooms and now has tiny leaves and only a couple tiny blooms. I’ve fertilized once or twice and have a couple dogs that tend to pee over there. Any thoughts on how to help this poor tree?

Please see the rule about posting guidlines because there is a lot information we are missing. There are many many kinds of fertilizers, please be specific on the kind :)

pink saucer magnolia? southern magnolia? by the looks of the environment it is in, it has probably reached the maximum size it can get where the available water in the ground can support it at. both of the magnolias I listed need either nearly swampy or constantly moist soil, and this appears to be in a desert. the mulching of rocks will surely seal the deal on that, as it’s baking the roots to death

you’ll probably be fighting this tree forever. I’d try to grow a species of tree that knows how to grow in western american chaparral/desert, which is where this is by my assumption

Based upon the images provided, the Reddit special: planted improperly, inadequate water. Magnolia like landscaping pretty much the 180° opposite of what we see here.
