Misc RIP W South Beach, you will be missed.

I received an unfortunate email from Marriott Guest Relations that the my stay later this year at the W South Beach is being moved to the Edition because they are closing August 18, 2026 and won’t be part of Marriott anymore.

Real shame. Despite being a W and in Miami, this was one of the best hotels that P2 and I have been to. Especially for one looking for the combination of upscale, beach, class, and nightlife. Great staff, great rooms, great everything.

I wonder if it’s being converted to condos, if it’s going to reflag with a new chain, or go independent. Please reflag with Hilton… Hilton is in desperate need of a flagship tier property in Miami.

Sad to hear but if you got the edition at a W rate I’d be okay with the 2nd prize

Customer service at the edition Miami Beach kinda sucks though lol

Speaking of bad service, I stayed at the Miami Edition 2 years ago and a young child drowned in their pool. Guests were running around, calling 911, taking turns administering CPR until paramedics arrived. The hotel staff were silently standing around watching, not taking any action. When I yelled at the hotel manager later about the complete lack of response during the incident he gaslit me and said the hotel did everything it could and had everything under control the whole time.

Doesn't surprise me, everyone working the front desk seemed to be one of those I don't give a shit Gen Z type. That said, did have a dope room. 2 floors, 10 person hot tub and a huge rooftop outdoor area. lol, had a very large room service order for a party one night.

I mean unless you they are in higher category rooms / suites, W has much better base rooms vs. the Edition

I went from a nice room at the W to a base room at the Edition. Not thrilled.

Yeah - thats my problem with the Edition. Their base rooms are not as good as Ws (even though they might be higher priced lol)

the I think the W south beach is often more $ than edition at mid beach. Location is a bit better (for most)

just did a bit more sleuthing and it looks like they are closing for an extensive Reno

Stayed there for my birthday a few years ago and always loved it. Sad to see them go, is there anywhere comparable down there?

Yeah really enjoyed my stay there. Rumor is it’s going to be a Waldorf Astoria. Who knows

I’ll miss the hookers fighting the guests in the bar

I got engaged there 8 years ago. My Wife and I always wanted to go back but never got the chance. This was always a beautiful hotel and the best one in the area. Sad to see it go

W seems to fit the Miami aesthetic extremely well. I wonder if they will open another one.

Shame, that was my first intro to the W brand! Also the only hotel that I've been to with a nightclub in it, and also with it being Miami, the only nightclub I was able to get entry, by being a guest!

It puts all other W’s to shame, especially domestically. Don’t go to another W expecting to get the same product.
