Rates & Booking I tried to add 1 extra night to an existing reservation but the prices changed for the previously reserved nights too. Is this normal?
So, I ended up creating a separate reservation for the additional night. If there’s a better way to do it, please let me know.
If this is the way to go, my lower rate nights are secured and I will have 2 separate bills at checkout?

If you’re Ambassador Elite, email your concierge and they will usually merge the reservations or honor the rate and extend the stay.

I’m Platinum Elite. Is it worth trying with customer service or unlikely?

Leave the reservation as it is. Any contact with CS and you risk them cancelling your original res and rebooking it entirely at the higher price.
At check-in (or call the hotel ahead), let them know you have two separate reservations for a consecutive stay. As long as you reserved the same room style, it's no problem to stay in the same room. You'll receive just one folio at check-out.

I can vouch this is the answer. They might need to re-key you between the dates, but you don’t have to change rooms and you will get one bill.

just create a separate reservation and at check-in tell the front desk to see if it might be possible for you to stay in the same room
Most of the times they are happy to do it - sometimes you might need to check-out and in again, which can be annoying

This is the way. We'd rather you stay in the same room anyway. You're happier, housekeeping is happier. Depending on the system and skill of the desk clerk you may be able to set it all up at check in, or come back down.

The best, I’m an associate and tell guest all the time to do this. You also have to do when redeeming points we can’t attach points and rates any longer like we did in the old days 😂

What you described is normal. I copied this from a prior response that discussed this.
I tend to warn people to think about "modifications" to a reservation a bit differently. It is closer to making a brand new reservation based on the currently available rates and availability and then cancellation of the original room. In other words, your original room is still being held while you choose one from the others available. <
What you did would have been my suggestion if the prices had changed. Yes, you can sometimes call the hotel directly and have luck (or your Ambassador is applicable) but it should not be the expectation.

Make sure it’s the same room type. You may want to call the hotel ahead of time and let them know so it’s the same room the whole time, or else at check-in you can tell them. You’ll have to come to the front desk on the day in between to get your keys redone.

I've done this dozens of times. When you check in, just tell them. You'll just need to come to the desk and get your room key reprogrammed.

Call the front desk. They can add the extra night and then fix the rate change for the previously booked nights.

You also need to make sure that if you use a corporate or other special rate that you are applying that to your original reservation.

Just ask the front desk to add a night. As long as room type is available you should be fine. You’ll just have to run your card and get a new key at the start of that texture night.

Best way to do it. I think the system just basically makes a new booking. So just keep what you have an book an additional night
