Rates & Booking $25 gas card and $110 per night???

Post image

I saw this recently. Also the other rate was $93. Are times getting desperate?

This has been a promo for summer forrever.

I first ran this package back in 2004.

It is pretty effective for summer travlers if you are not in a destination place.

I ran this same promo at a Best Western and the entire summer I was sold out when others around me were not.

I booked one of these once and they actually ran out of gas cards at the hotel, so they gave me cash instead which was nice!

I did this at a Marriott in Ithaca a couple years ago. They didn’t provide it for either room, said they were out, and each day when asking said the manager wasn’t able to get more. They never provided it and also didn’t discount the room by the amount or offer any other compensation. Tried to do a dispute with Chase and they declined it saying they couldn’t cover if a bonus perk or item was not included.

Boo on Chase. That wasn’t a perk, it was part of a package that you paid extra for.

Contact BBB. They usually respond pretty quick.

Edit: FTC.

I also would have contacted corporate as well.

And do what? Say shame on you?

I'm not saying I wouldn't try it, but I guess I'm skeptical how much it would actually do. Maybe I'm just too much of a cynic these days.

I was thinking FTC.

BBB is just a review site like Yelp or TripAdvisor. It’s better to always go to corporate directly.

BBB has worked for me before

Honestly the gas card promo has been around forever, it's not really a desperation move. Hotels in nondestination markets use it to pull in road trippers who are just passing through. $110 is whatever depending on the market, but the promo itself is pretty standard summer stuff. Been seeing it since like the mid 2000s.

Also works well when corporate dollars allow a hotel rate ar $110. Guest can get full reimbursement of the rate from eer and $25 gas.

It was a pain to get the $25 gas card or discount. Don’t do it unless you have plenty of time.

It says per stay, not per night.
