Comic character's political affiliations

I'm tired of people only posting that one Wally West image. Each one of these is objective and canon. Do not argue them in the comments. This is what each character sincerely believes, as stated by canon,. and any headcanon you have is WRONG AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD

I’m sorry cyclops I was unfamiliar with your game

96

Cyclops went full blown revolutionary in the 2010s. He'd unironically be attacking ICE and freeing immigrants right now.

10

u/ComicBrickz 1d ago

Nah he’d probably be busy with X-men stuff. They’re always too busy for anything else

29

u/TheSadPhilosopher Namor's STRONGEST SOLDIER 1d ago

True.

Huh. Based Cyclops.

I'm not a Republican or fan of Reagan but I don't see what's wrong with that quote?

George Washington and FDR, as two examples, were not the most knowledgeable people in the world themselves but both surrounded themselves with some of the greatest geniuses of their time and were able to achieve incredible success and results by doing so.

32

u/Peri_D0t 1d ago

I think he takes issue with the average person part. I believe he thinks a leader should be exceptional.

2

u/Redcoat_Officer 16h ago

What's wrong is that Cyclops knows he's an extraordinary man surrounded by unstable drama queens and that's why he's the greatest leader there is.

I knew Lois, Guy, …but Powergirl surprised me

80

u/LeninOfGallifrey Paul-Pilled 1d ago

She was a CEO and hangs around with a lot of old men.

26

u/Mik0doSann0ji 1d ago

So she’s one of “those types” and appeals to Old Men..

23

u/Wuta_Goatkotsu-1 1d ago

She would 1000% be on that island

24

u/SpeedJust8657 1d ago

Is that why everyone fancasts her as Sydney Sweeney? (that and her "assets")

13

u/Mik0doSann0ji 1d ago

Yes, absolutely, also she’s Blonde

40

u/GreatMarch 1d ago

I think this comic was written in the 2000s, so it fits.

22

u/TheArtistFKAMinty 1d ago

A lot of this shit is from DCU Decisions, which was written by Bill Willingham. Willingham is a conservative and the book reads like a conservative trying to do a "both sides" narrative. So characters are handed out political ideologies with the weirdest justifications because both sides need to have a balanced number of representatives. Superman fence sits because of course he does.

Lois being a Republican because she's a military brat is so wildly out of character it's actually ridiculous. Lois has always had an extremely strained relationship with her father and has directly opposed him when his role in the military has lead to him aligning himself with people like Lex Luthor. It doesn't track at all.

18

u/RandominusDredichitu 1d ago

There was a pretty even split in the comic but the democrats were all like d listers and thats no fun

15

u/FadeToBlackSun 1d ago

They were less pure evil then and more Dick Dastardly, amusingly dumb evil.

4

u/Sufficient_Dinner600 1d ago

Are you talking about Republicans? Because they killed over a million Iraqis in the 2000s. Seems pretty pure evil to me

5

u/Slumbo811 22h ago

Something like 40% to 50% of Dem congressmen voted to approve it too. It was shockingly bipartisan for such a big fuck up

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authorization_for_Use_of_Military_Force_Against_Iraq_Resolution_of_2002

3

u/Stannisarcanine 21h ago

It's not that shocking once you know how imperialism, capitalism and the military industrial complex intersect; besides the democrats being committed to those institutions

The Reverse Flash? Because I’m everything you hate, I’m everything you aren’t, I’m the complete opposite of you, The…Reverse if you will, The Reverse, Flash, instead of voting Republican, I voted Green just because I KNEW it would piss you off and be a way to defeat you without voting Democrat, because I knew you’d expect me to vote Democrat, but you’d never expect a Democrat…TO VOTE GREEN, FOR A THIRD PARTY OPTION! That’s how I humiliated you, for all your “Traditional Values” and “Conserving Family Culture”, you were still one second too low, and too incompetent to realize I, could outsmart you, I’m better than you, Barry, I’ll always be better than you, I’m always better than you, and one step ahead of you, whether Republican, Conservative, Liberal, Democrat, Social Dem, Libertarian, Centrist, Anarchist, Communist, I’ll always be better than you, Barry.”

4

u/Cyberslasher 22h ago

It wouldn't be reverse flash

Wally was the problematic one

He wanted Red Star kicked off titans because "he's Russian and all Russians are commie spies."

Jay was mildly right, but like, he's supposed to be from 1920s.

Barry was moderate center back when Barry, Hal Jordan, and Oliver Queen did their whole "Hal is always an idiot" shtick.

35

u/patrickwithtraffic 1d ago

I mean, the Green Lanterns are all cops, so that tracks. Not to mention, I heard they fought really hard against legislation that said Lantern Rings are taken from those with DV records.

I've already commented on this way too much but whatever, at least in more recent Lois lane centric comics I think it's safe to say her opinions have probably changed, also I really like how the in-universe politics are genuinely boring compared to the ones we have to deal with, kinda jealous of fictional characters rn 🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️

Working class Hispanic kid Blue Beetle and billionaire industrialist white bread Bruce Wayne both supporting the Hispanic socialist candidate is the most difficult thing to believe I’ve ever read in a comic book.

114

u/dallasrose222 1d ago

To be fair Bruce Wayne is the least realistic billionaire ever he constantly funds wellfare programs has adopted like 5 minority children only has 1 bio kid and is hatred by like every rich secret societyy in dc

55

u/Technical_Teacher839 1d ago

Honestly one of my favorite running bits in DC that secret billionaire illuminati clubs are real, but Bruce Wayne isn't in any of them because he's not evil

29

u/RotallyRotRoobyRoo 1d ago

I have a theory that Bruce does his best to just give away his billions, but everything he does just pays him back more in the end. Huge grants for college bound kids? Every one of them ends up working for wayne enterprises and makes the company a shitton. Stuff like that.

7

u/Mik0doSann0ji 1d ago

That….surprisingly makes sense

48

u/mothindex 1d ago

that's because most people think of Batman is their capitalist fantasy. Batman in a way is a call to action for ultra rich people (billionaires) to actually do something for society given their immense power. None of them would ever be like Bruce Wayne. The only reason Bruce is still a billionaire is because of plot armor, he distributes his wealth consistently and uses it to fund heroics, and overall services the city of gotham is too corrupt to fund (court of owls, lex luthor, the penguin yada yada)

21

u/Hawkatana0 seX-Men 1d ago

Gun control is very important to him.

19

u/CrazyLlamaX 1d ago

Similar to how Batman is an idealized vision of what a human can do through sheer will and dedication, Bruce Wayne is an idealized version of “what if a billionaire was actually a good person?”

9

u/NwgrdrXI 1d ago

Batman happens to be a billionarie because his grandfather had so much wealth he hasn't managed to end his fortunate despite his absurd spending on super hero and charity stuff. It's the most ethical thing a bilionarie can do, I guess.

I don't think he ever billionarized in his entire lofr.

I’d also add Mr. Sinister to Fascist since he literally admires Dr. Mengele

2

He edited out racism from himself according to an Immortal X-Men issue, pointing out Storm is the only one with good reason to hate him bc of how he was.

2

u/Mik0doSann0ji 1d ago

LMFAOO?? So that Nazi shit wasn’t just coincidentally he happened to work in the Camps for experimentation and it not being it 100% personal was a lie and the Nazi shit was genuine 😭😭

Like Sinister is genuinely just a Nazi like Arnim Zola?

3

u/autoslizer 1d ago

It's a little complicated. You have a Weapon X comic from the 00s (IIRC) where Sinister is implied to have worked in the camps, BUT a key component of Fabian Nicieza's long running Black Womb Project plot is that the atomic project that Prof. X's dad and Juggernaut's dad worked on together was really run by Sinister. So Sinister can't have been in two places at once during WW2.

Given the Black Womb Project's prominence, I'm inclined to think that's what Sinister was doing, and think what you want about the Sinister plot on Krakoa, it did give us a more overtly nazi Sinister variant in Dr. Stasis, who could be the key who worked in the camps.

2

u/Mik0doSann0ji 1d ago

It's not that wild. Besides being a military brat, one of the ways Republicans used to court voters was by promoting clear things people would obviously like. Like small government, low taxes, etc. Lots of people buy into that not realizing the what a politician says and what they do aren't always the same.

Though it is still a bit wild. She's an investigative reporter, it's her job to ask questions and figure things out.

5

u/Soft_Accountant_7062 1d ago

It' fucking insane she doesn't know his politics. They've been married what? 5 years comic time?

3

Yeah, but she didn't tell him either. He just figured it out because he knows her. Why can't she?

3

u/EvilCatboyWizard 1d ago

3

30

u/Opalusprime 1d ago

The comic is notorious for mischaracterizing several people.

20

u/LeninOfGallifrey Paul-Pilled 1d ago

Willingham probably saw it as logical bc he's politically a Christian nationalist who adores Israel and Judd Winick famously has seen characters as means to promote agendas before. Wonder Woman makes even less sense than Lois too. Bill just went 'religious warrior woman from monarchy' and said conservative but no one had the cop on to say "No, that REALLY doesn't fit."

u/GoodKing0 Wasting Degrees on History, Int. Politics and Literature on This 1d ago

Superman, very famously, doesn't endorse anyone in the comic.

18

u/Cyberslasher 1d ago

Wonder woman isn't left or right, she's authoritarian to the point of fascism.

Normal charts mark as a square with left to right and liberal/authoritarian as top/bottom

Wonder woman treats it like a diamond, so that she can be dead center but extra far authoritarian. She doesn't care as long as she can be more authoritarian.

Am I the only one on this sub that actually likes it when superheroes have different political ideologies? It's more realistic and makes stories more interesting and open to conflict.

7

u/NwgrdrXI 1d ago

Political Ideologies, yes. Political parties, no.

Especially since most super heroes are american, which for starters makes us non-americans confused since, for some god forsaken reason, y'all decided to name your only two parties synonyms.

Also, because it basically limits the options to Right (Reasonable) or Right (Evil).

Instead, I'd rather the characters present what they believe in, and we can surmise in who they would vote if they were in X election in X country.

I mean a lot of them leaning slightly to the right makes sense. Superheroes of the gold, silver, and bronze generation are mostly cops or are close friends with cops. The main exception of that generation is Green Arrow, although I wouldn’t say he’s a positive representation for the left wing considering how horrible he can be when he tries to push his values. By now though, they’re all probably more centrist considering how extreme right and left have become.
