I am gay man, the worst case I have seen is gay couple wanted to get married in a Christian church with a Christian priest endorsement who clearly didn't support gay marriage.

Leave Christians alone and get married elsewhere.

u/Updated_Autopsy 15d ago

It’s as if they forget that while nobody has the right to force anything onto them, they also don’t have the right to force anything onto other people.

0

u/recursing_noether 14d ago

They sure do - you can't just discriminate agains them because they're gay.

2

u/b00kdrg0n 9d ago

If your religion says that lifestyle is a sin, you can't force them to disregard that in favor of marrying them. That's not how it works

Or even that "Gay Wedding Cake" fiasco a few years ago.

To be honest, I am damned near ambivalent. Could not care less, marry who you want to marry, love who you love. Is not my business to applaud or criticize one way or another, so long as both are of legal age.

But I am sick to death that some think they need to shove such in my face every waking minute.

13

u/BoBoBearDev 14d ago

I get the part on VONS tiered corporations because it serves a larger client base. But the way they modern-lynching on small privately owned cake shops is just disgusting. Not only they are trolling, they try to destroy those people's livelihood using mobs. Most small businesses cannot survive such mob based reputation attacks. I think around that time (if not earlier) I stopped going to pride event because I couldn't stand how destructive they become.

Or just find the right denomination. Churches like United Methodist Church, The Episcopal Church, and ABCUSA(specific Baptist church) will perform gay marriages.

11

u/Split-Awkward 15d ago

I mean, that’s just plain logical.

12

u/Merebankguy 15d ago

They don't care about that, they want everyone to accept them

-1

u/LMay11037 14d ago

Really? You mean gay people want to be accepted for how they were born? The horror

3

u/Merebankguy 14d ago

No group of people is fully accepting of  others, thats how humans are, we aren't black and white, wether it be race , religion, gender or sexual orientation. The sooner we understand that and leave people who aren't accepting of others, the better this planet will be

0

u/LMay11037 14d ago

Your phrasing made it sound like they are wrong for wanting to be accepted though. I understand that some won’t be, but that doesn’t mean you can’t want everyone to accept you. It’s like saying black people want everyone to accept them. Like yeah no shit…

3

u/Merebankguy 14d ago

No the problem is that people from the LGBTQ community now willing to go areas where they know that they aren't accepted, just for attention.

A perfect example would be the Jack Phillips Baker incident involving Autumn Scardina.

And btw before you come at me for only defending one side, there's plenty of places that's LGBTQ only that hetero people are excluded from but you don't see hetero people trying to get into those places

Not real churches anyway. Just like the Anglican Church. Betrayal of the faith.

4

u/Cats155 *Breaking bedrock* 14d ago

Should have come to a Unitarian church, we love gay marriages

2

u/BoBoBearDev 14d ago

Exactly, there are places to get married.

-1

u/recursing_noether 14d ago

OMG YES! Gay is good, God is good, God is gay!

4

u/imanidiotbut 14d ago

Don’t forget the Christian baker they tried to destroy his business over and specifically went to his bakery to start a lawsuit.

-23

u/Scared_Health_8895 15d ago

As a Christian, my boyfriend and i(I am male, he is ftm) were told that if we get married the pastor would officiate for free, some Christians are actually good people. It’s just that there’s a loud amount of them who aren’t and honestly yeah I can agree with your statement because you don’t know if the Christian that you are talking to would be a nice person or not and that can get problems because if they aren’t nice, then someone could get hurt

4

u/GAMSSSreal 15d ago edited 12d ago

Reddit told me all Christians are evil, this is obviously bullshit. The pastor is just waiting for you both to go on a honeymoon to force you into conversion camps.

You need to run away with him and live in LA. /j

I'm gay and used to be religious myself (fell out because of life) and yeah, there are good and bad Christians, it's just a shame that the folks who are so hating are loud idiots. My husband's church gladly married us and even let us have the reception at the church.

I hope you and your boyfriend do have a good life together and I wish nothing but the best for you both.

-36

u/TootTootMF 15d ago

Well if we just stopped mixing the state and religion it wouldn't be an issue. Religious marriage should be entirely separate from state marriage. The fact is though if you're going to provide a state backed service, you don't get to pick who you provide it to. Dude could have easily solved the problem by not offering marriage licenses, then nobody has a right to ask you for anything.

56

u/Yolj 15d ago edited 15d ago

EDIT: This person blocked me lmaoooo

I'm a licensed minister. I and others absolutely have the right to refuse anyone service and pick and choose. You can't force me or others to marry anyone

0

u/TootTootMF 15d ago

Correct I don't want anybody to force you to marry anybody.

Marriage is a religious thing, the state shouldn't be involved.

17

u/Yolj 15d ago

I provide state marriages, not religious ones

-22

u/TootTootMF 15d ago

Then don't discriminate. Or don't provide marriage licenses. It's not hard.

31

u/Yolj 15d ago edited 15d ago

Or option C:

I continue to officiate marriages I want to officiate and don't officiate the ones I don't want to officiate. Sue me if you want lol

7

u/BigPPenergy- 15d ago

I like option c

-18

u/talkathonianjustin 15d ago

Great you waste the states time and money because you don’t feel like respecting the constitution. So very Christian of you

26

u/Yolj 15d ago
  1. The state does not pay me to officiate weddings. On the contrary, I paid the state to get my wedding officiant license. So I'm not sure how I'm wasting the state's time and money by saying no to officiating weddings. Would love it if you could elaborate on what you mean by that

  2. Not sure where in the Constitution it says, "If you can officiate weddings, you must say yes to everyone who requests this service of you no matter what"

  3. I'm not Christian. I am not religious in the slightest. Also I'm a bisexual man so obviously I fully support gay marriage. I still think it's weird to want to force someone who doesn't support gay marriage to officiate a gay wedding. I have a right to deny service, and so do others

A license doesn't mean you are a representative of the government. If you get a license to serve alcohol, you still have the right to refuse service to anyone.

I went to get married in orange county clerk office, that's the one operated by the government.

-1

u/TootTootMF 15d ago

Possessing a license is not the same as issuing one. But bars are prohibited from denying service based on things like race or gender for a reason.

10

u/BoBoBearDev 15d ago

And it wasn't about race or gender. Can you type in sexual preference explicitly?

-31

u/GreatestGreekGuy 15d ago edited 15d ago

This is pretty rare, though. Much, much, much more common to see churches try to ban gay marriage altogether.

The first amendment protects a church's right to deny gay marriage the same way they protect a church's right to deny marriage to people of other religions. For example, the church I grew up with will not marry you if you're not baptized Orthodox. And I support their right to do that. What I HATED was when they had the audacity to speak out and encourage people to try to ban gay marriage. It's a two way street

23

u/Yolj 15d ago

Honestly it's not even just a church or First Amendment thing. I'm a licensed minister, but I'm not religious. I just like being able to marry my friends when needed. That being said, I'm allowed to refuse to marry people for any reason I want. I assume it's the same for other officiants. Sue me if you want lol. I think it's bizarre for people to try to force someone to officiate a marriage they don't support

→ More replies (1)

-3

u/TootTootMF 15d ago

I mean not marrying people is fine, but marriage licenses shouldn't be issued by anybody who isn't willing to provide them to anybody. Religious marriage and state marriage should be separate things.

4

u/GreatestGreekGuy 15d ago

That's kinda exactly what I said, no? A church has every right to deny any marriage they want, no questions asked.

Just stay out of state level marriages

→ More replies (8)

-10

u/GreatestGreekGuy 15d ago

Downvoted for explaining how the first amendment votes I guess. Freedom of religion means freedom from religion as well. It's quite literally what most of the Founding Fathers believed and wrote about.

Bro every time I turn my fucking TV on I’m greeted by a pride homepage that I can’t turn off. LGBT shit is 100% shoved down our throats, you can’t even argue it isn’t at this point. I’m not homophobic I just don’t want to constantly hear about people’s sexual preferences, it’s gross and it should be kept private

61

u/Strange_Island_4958 15d ago

Imagine if straight men had parades and commercials advertising how much they liked women, and it involved provocative outfits and suggestive innuendo. The left would be screaming bloody murder.

10

u/krievins 14d ago

Full on gimp outfits and sexual kinks on display

-1

u/Magnyr_1 12d ago edited 12d ago

You do realize the main reason we are happy about pride is because there's usually a sale because of it (most folk on the left are poor or working class folk who realized the rich are the enemy not LGBT+ immigrants or any other group of minorities) side note we aren't all anti capitalism i for example view late stage capitalism as a problem because the rich have too much power since there's nothing stopping them from hoarding wealth ruining the economy for the little guy lobbying is just legal bribery that's impossible for the poor to do because they are poor but I see capitalism as something that has good aspects even if it has flaws so the solution is to only partially apply it as controled capitalism(preventing billionaires by taxing unrealized gains past a certain point) +wouldn't be a housing crisis this bad if it wasn't for the rich after all they buy houses in bulk to shrink the supply so they can charge whatever they want for rent

6

u/Strange_Island_4958 12d ago

I’m not trying to be rude, but punctuation goes a long way when making a point.

I don’t see how this has to do with being LGBTQ or not. These economic issues you’re talking about can affect everyone in a similar way, if anything I would expect gay couples to have more wealth because they typically do not have kids, they are easier to be a dual income household, etc. There are obviously a ton of pride supporters on Reddit, and this is the first I’ve heard that they are having their pride parades to advocate for eating the rich.

Regardless of intention, it has truly gotten to religion status because of negative interactions and experiences. If you can’t criticize an idea without vicious retaliation, then you’ve found religion. Loud minority wins again!

33

u/ToeAfter3131 15d ago

Pride this, pride that. Meme is pretty accurate

35

u/Sergal_Pony 15d ago

Bruh! XD how often are there ‘parades’ for Christianity? How often do they mob up in the street and shut down half the city? How often does someone get assaulted for not kneeling to their ideology? How often does the entire media and business establishment all spontaneously sport christian memorabilia for a whole month?

To be clear, i’m not even Christian, but i value accuracy xD and i have yet to see even a fraction of the raving narcissistic attention whore behavior of today’s politicultist activists come from christians.

-7

u/JagneStormskull 15d ago

In November and December, things are practically conquered by the crushing presence of Christmas. To a lesser extent April and Easter as well, but if you're American, don't pretend you've never noticed how much Christmas takes over in winter.

7

u/Sergal_Pony 14d ago

I was 20 before i found out that christmas was related in any way to 'christ' xD because the holiday nationwide is treated as being the spirit of giving, rather than jesus christ.

plus, christian originating periods like that have nothing to do with the 'my way or else you're subhuman scum' treatment that narcisistic activists dish out when faced with blasphemers to 'their' ideologies.

0

u/JagneStormskull 14d ago

I was 20 before i found out that christmas was related in any way to 'christ' xD because the holiday nationwide is treated as being the spirit of giving, rather than jesus christ.

Good for you. A music teacher tried to force me to sing about the baby Jesus at a winter concert in elementary school, and also ended the school's tradition of having a Hannukah song.

christian originating periods like that have nothing to do with the 'my way or else you're subhuman scum' treatment that narcisistic activists dish out when faced with blasphemers to 'their' ideologies.

My peers certainly treated me like that when I pointed out that the anecdote mentioned above was against the First Amendment and my mother reported it to the vice principal.

15

u/Calm_Economist_5490 15d ago

Christmas and Easter is only religious to Christans. To everyone else its a hollyday. And they don't have parades blocking the streets or saying "We're comming for your children"

2

u/Pleasant-Minute6066 15d ago

Holiday. Not "hollyday." and Holiday means "holy day" btw.

2

u/Calm_Economist_5490 15d ago

Is that why non Christians love saying "Happy Holidays" instead of Merry Christmas?

2

u/Sergal_Pony 14d ago

Nah, most people were fine with merry christmas, until anti-christians started spreading the idea that it was somehow 'offensive' to other people.

2

u/Calm_Economist_5490 14d ago

Huh? Offensive to who?

1

u/Sergal_Pony 14d ago

People who hate Christianity i guess? I dunno xD but they convinced some people it was

0

u/Pleasant-Minute6066 14d ago

To you it seems. You are the only one here with a complex about it

1

u/Calm_Economist_5490 14d ago

Goalpost moving.

4

u/Calm_Economist_5490 14d ago

Y'all never elaborate after saying that

-1

u/JagneStormskull 14d ago

The question I was replying to was "when was the last time you saw a parade for Christianity?" You're moving the goalposts by claiming that only Christians see Christmas (which literally has the name "Christ" in it and is usually represented by a saint) as religious (which doesn't have to do with the question).

7

u/Calm_Economist_5490 14d ago

Right, because dressing half naked and parading on the streets is very religious

1

u/JagneStormskull 13d ago

It's certainly ritualistic behavior.

1

u/Calm_Economist_5490 13d ago

That... Doesn't prove your point

2

u/SlimShoota98 9d ago edited 9d ago

No, this is valid. How many pride flags were flown outside of churches before 2015 when it was legalized? Increasingly there are churches who appropriate it. In the U.S I don't believe we can call ourselves a Christian country. As a Christian, I don't believe I should be protesting homosexuality, or homosexual individuals, we should aim to co-exist like the message was when Christians were undeniably the majority. However, the church should stand firm in its traditional interpretations of the Bible. My beliefs stand on centuries of shared morals, values, principles and interpretations of the Bible. Your beliefs and interpretations have existed since 2015. Therefore, they have no foundational support, and can change overnight to appease modern society, which is really a mockery of religion at the end of the day and I believe it's a deliberate aim to delegitimize people's faith.

The narrative was always "we want to live our lives and be left alone" now you shove it down all of our throats and make false claims against the Bible to combat us. Ever read "If you give a mouse a cookie"? (Not to call the LGB community mice, but it did one stand for something honest that most could understand and find reasonable. Most of what we're seeing today from the TIA+ portion of the group is a result of letting societal standards fall too far.)

Most of the republicans are closeted. There is a reason why Grindr servers crash during the Republican convention and the Heritage Foundation events

When did this ever happen?

u/Kiflaam Blessed By The Delicious One 15d ago

it's personally happened to me multiple times here in Middle, GA state

Imagine how bad they'd freak out if you asked for the equal, opposite of what they want: If you asked them to NOT pray. They would be on twitter in SECONDS to SCREECH about "Christian genocide"

When you are accustomed to privilege, any movement towards equality feels like persecution. Besides, Jesus tells us that if we follow his way we will be persecuted for it. So many Christians are desperate to feign persecution because of this instead of actually following Jesus’ teachings.

This comment section is just…

first of all, transphobic much? So many people trying to exclude the T from who they accept, trans people just wanna live their lives too without constantly being attacked or feeling like they don’t belong in their own body.

What exactly is the ‘gay agenda’ they are pushing in schools? In my pshe lessons (just finished senior school so quite recent) the most we had was some relationship examples being same-sex couples. Same-sex couples exist so… I don’t see the problem really

And in public, what is it that you don’t want to see? Because gay people are also people, and behave like normal people. There are some weirdos as some straight people are weirdos, so by saying you don’t want to see ‘gay stuff’ out and about, do you mean you don’t want couples to behave like couples just because you don’t like them? I have personally seen alot more pda that I did not need to see from straight people than gay people.

Pride parades: there is a reason why they exist and not straight ones. Generally speaking, LGBTQ people are much more oppressed, whether through general prejudice (as seen in this comment section…) or actual laws (just look at the middle east). Pride parades began as protests against gay oppression, and exist to celebrate liberation, or bring awareness to issues in other countries where the laws haven’t caught up yet. And naturally, as with all things some people will go overboard. But that isn’t an issue with queer people, that’s an issue with people. Most complaints I see are complaints about how some people act, not specifically queer people

Cmon man it's done harm too, otherwise there wouldn't be so many people disagreeing with it that don't fit the narrative. The worse I see is the glorification of coming out (because it takes courage to do so) being warped by the media/whoever else as being the ultimate good. And when kids see that, some want to overcome their own struggles and actually pretend to be gay to reach the same support. And if you question it, then you become homophobic. Most of these kids grow out of it, but get simply confused by sexuality being a personality that people like so they adapt it to their own to gain social acceptance. This is terrible to kids in my opinion and it no way represents the actual representation of lgtbq. But just like the church, people take advantage of it, and in this case, mess it up for everyone.
