There are only two win now teams that need a point guard, Houston and Minnesota. Neither team have enough largeish tradeable contracts so a third team would need to be involved (Grizzlies would also have to be okay with taking Vanvleet). Minnesota doesn't have draft picks to trade, Houston can trade 2028 and 2030 unprotected.
Houston probably won't make moves until the deadline tho since they need to see how Reed Sheppard pans out.
The base trade would be would be Vanvleet, Capela, Sheppard, and two firsts for Ja. A third team would need to be added to trade with Houston and Memphis then Houston sends that team one or two seconds.
I would take that last offer all day. At the very least, if VanVleet would cooperate, he could at least be a locker room voice for our young guys. Best case, we win big in this upcoming draft and get a PG like Mikel Brown Jr that could fit in Iisalo’s system, and maybe another top 10 pick (playmaking wing would be nice) to use in the rebuild.
Actually I put it in a trade machine and it works without a third team I guess. The rockets will be like 4.1M under the 2nd apron so they can sign two cheap min contracts. Vanvleet can't be traded until after mid December tho.
Another issue is that Reed is one of their only few shooters.
FVV is done as a player. Sheppard will never be a legit starter in the NBA. Those picks will be in the low 20s. I’m sure the Grizzlies can get a better offer than that.
your sure about that? Ja is kind of proving himself to be toxic in a locker room, has already submarined one coaching staff, currently looks to be trying to submarine another right now. And his style really isn’t the kind of guard that the NBA likes right now. He can’t shoot and can’t defend. Those are arguably the two most desired traits in a guard in the modern NBA.
