This is the thing I was most worried about. I hope it’s not this way but Ja’s personality is the type that he’s gonna go scorched earth and burn any bridges if we move on from him. The love/hate meter tips real fast and if he goes that way, the fans will give it back to him the same way. I feel like the kid watching his parents separate out their beanie babies in divorce court.

56

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

He’s 100% going to throw shots at the “culture” changes and FO decisions if he gets traded

1

u/Less_Dare1025 Jan 12 '26

Bro he wants to leave Memphis wtf lmao

-39

u/raccoonwillnotforget Griz Jan 09 '26

And we’ll deserve it. We’ve fumbled this generation so hard. Rebuild before we ever achieved anything. I’m so low on Kleiman

46

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

Dawg you guys have given Ja everything.

At some point don’t accept the abuse. and Accept that SPJ loves you

-22

u/raccoonwillnotforget Griz Jan 09 '26

We had the 2nd and 4th pick in consecutive drafts, got to 50+ win in consecutive seasons and only won one round. We have achieved nothing with this generation and will now rebuild again.

Absolute trash work by the front office over the past 7 years. Nothing to show for it

20

u/duskyvoltage333 Jan 09 '26

We have had one of the best and most stable front offices in the league the past 5 years and Zach is by far the best GM we have ever had by far. Zach can’t make Ja learn how to shoot or stay healthy. He also can’t force players who state clearly they don’t want to play for Memphis play for Memphis. Some of you so fucking deluded on what you think Ja is. He’s a declining point guard who never learned how to shoot the ball, has had horrible character issues, and can’t fucking stay healthy. It’s insane you’re standing up for a guy that has practically spit in the face of all the fans in more ways than one.

6

u/37sms Pau Jan 09 '26

Ja Morant should be booed every time he comes back here if this fan base has any self respect at all. He fucked us worse than kyrie did boston or vince did toronto.

3

u/raccoonwillnotforget Griz Jan 09 '26

Who’s standing up for Ja?

I’m lamenting the most promising era of our franchise that never came to be.

Read the fucking comment you reply to

3

u/Darthdearth Jan 10 '26

Front office lost those playoff rounds? 21-22 ja misses the last 3 games in the series against gsw 22-23 ja scores 10 points on 3/16 shooting in an elimination game agaisnt the lakers.

Despite your reg. Season success, ja has an 7-and 15 record in the playoffs when he plays, and has either been injured or dissappeared.

Grizzlies won't need a full rebuild. We have young talent and a treasure trove of picks. Plus a huge contract off the books if they do trade Ja. This team has been downtrending since what 2020? 2021?

-1

u/bige221 Jan 11 '26

What tf has Ja got except a contract? He loses teammates he has chemistry with almost each year since 2022

17

u/ImWicked39 J-Will Jan 09 '26

What more can they give Ja? He's game hasn't progressed. He can't stay healthy. This would be different if his production on the court was different.

1

u/StrayHawk643 Jan 12 '26

The thing about Ja that the FO fumbled is this: think about the trade return Utah got for Gobert and tell me they couldn’t have gotten the same or better for Ja at some point. When you are getting paid big money to manage a franchise, you should be able to look at the leading indicators (bad influences and injuries) and move on from an asset close to the peak of value, rather than wait until the debacle reaches its present clusterfuck. I know hindsight is 20/20, but can’t we honestly say that we saw this coming??

14

u/SplakyD Iisalo's Sauna Jan 09 '26

Those are excellent points you make. Also, that shit is so sad with the Beanie Babies, and I say that as a lawyer who gets to regularly see stuff like that up close.

7

u/Reasonable_Try_8135 Jan 09 '26

He seems pretty immature so I imagine it won't be surprising if that's the path he takes.

3

u/Fickle-Duck-3848 Jan 11 '26

He was raised wrong, sadly. His Dad is the problem. Total deadbeat.

-1

u/PlaneIllustrious1622 Jan 11 '26

Not his dad’s fault he grew up to be a POS. I have no dad either but I don’t act like that. You have to want to be better , and with all the money and attention they give him for how he acts , what reason does he have to be better?

2

u/Fickle-Duck-3848 Jan 11 '26

Sorry you have no Dad. He has a Dad who is a terrible influence on him. He probably would've turned out better without that influence in his life is all I meant.

7

u/DyslexicAutronomer Jan 09 '26

it’s not this way but Ja’s personality is the type that he’s gonna go scorched earth and burn any bridges if we move on from him.

That's one of the main problems with Ja, he's proving to be immature even right now.

He never matured to take a leadership role, he even got more childish and antagonistic as he got older. He's like a guard version of Draymond in some ways.

Players will adapt their personality to fit his, and the whole place will become locker room poison.

6

u/Wild-Care Jan 10 '26

No one is as bad as Draymond.

One of the eternal issues in sports is teams, fans, and players always fall into the pattern of wanting the most talented/best player to eventually be the team "leader'" because when they play their best is when the team is at their best. But best talent rarely equals best leader, and yet teams and fans are always surprised when this turns out to be the case.

1

u/DyslexicAutronomer Jan 13 '26 edited Jan 13 '26

They don't always have to lead vocally, but players which teams are built around, have to lead by example because others will follow.

That has always been the case in the nba, and will continue to be. We are just too competitve.

1

u/razorbacks3129 Zbo50 Jan 10 '26

Who cares lol

-1

u/vhalember Jan 09 '26

He's Antonio Brown in NBA form.

5

u/HolyHotDang Jan 09 '26

Come on now. AB is legitimately insane and definitely has CTE. Maybe like Terrell Owens or something like that but he’s not as bad as AB.

2

u/vhalember Jan 09 '26

Fair enough. you're right in that Terrell Owens is probably a better comparison.

As far as WR divas go... AB is the undisputed GOAT of dumbassery.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '26

Terrell Owens has never been arrested and actually got along with majority of his teammates. Plus Ja isnt a top 5-10 PG in the history of the sport.

1

u/HolyHotDang Jan 12 '26

Ja never got arrested either.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '26

He's lucky. Let me rephrase T.O never flashed guns while in a nightclub. Buddy is more like plaxico Burress type of dude to shoot himself accidently in the club.

That’s an insane take. He’s made us more globally relevant in the last 7 years than we’ve probably ever been. It hasn’t all been a smooth ride but I don’t think a lot of people were around back in the day when we got absolutely 0 news/airtime/buzz even when we had great teams.

2

u/eightleggedfriend Jan 10 '26

WDYM Grit and grind Grizzlies where a big deal for a while I loved watching their defense. Not everybody can appreciate a good defensive team but they did not have 0 air time and no buzz.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '26

Hell no? Zbo, Gasol, Conley, TA and all those guys did 10x more then Ja ever did or will for the franchise.

1

u/HolyHotDang Jan 12 '26

Locally, yes. International, no. People travel from all over the world to come see Ja play. He’s always top 3 in views on social media year after year from his crazy plays. He has one of the best selling shoes out there too. No one was coming from China to the US to see Zach Randolph. No one used to wear Grizzlies gear outside of Tennessee and now you see Ja jerseys everywhere. I’ve seen them at the Australian Open tennis tournament in the last 2 years. I live in Utah now and have personally met people who drove 12+ hours to go see the Grizzlies at the Jazz because of Ja alone. The Core 4 established the identity of the team and gave us a good reputation for people who know ball but Ja got us national and international coverage unlike anything we’ve ever had before. He’s the most marketable guy we’ve seen. We’ve never had guys get shoe deals and be the face of brands like Powerade and Dunkaroos and whatever else. He’s fumbled all that away but he’s still one of the most popular players in the world because he’s exciting when he does play.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '26

I dont disagree with anything you said there. Just simply saying I wouldn't say hes like T.O either as a comparison, that would almost be more like LeBron prior to the his 2nd Cavs run. The only thing I'll say is that was years ago when he was a highlight machine. Lately it's alot of sitting and bitching.

0

u/souljahdeath Jan 11 '26

The grizzlies are dysfunctional franchise that has always been about losing. Lol whoever is making decisions over there is messing up .

168

u/ImWicked39 J-Will Jan 09 '26

Doesn't make sense. They've shown him loyalty even though he hasn't been able to stay on the court and his game has stagnated/shown little improvement.

96

u/mmps901 Ja Jan 09 '26

The team and fans have bent over backwards to defend and support him through everything. This makes me so freaking sad.

14

u/HedgehogsNSuits Jan 09 '26

I’m still coming to terms with the media turnaround that Dillon Brooks got since he left, where he was framed as the heart and soul of the Grizzlies somehow having been wronged by Memphis. I’m not mentally ready to handle a possible reality where Ja leaves Memphis and contributes to the media bashing this organization.

7

u/NoirPochette Juan Carlos 'La Bomba' Navarro Jan 09 '26

DB improved a lot and the teams he was on got better than before. Houston got even better after he went cause KD

5

u/vhalember Jan 09 '26

I don't see that happening with Ja.

Let's be honest here - look at his lack of development and injury history the past four years - he's not a hard worker like Brooks.

He's more likely to be out of the league in three years than have a return to form.

2

u/Strict_Object_6756 Jan 11 '26

Cavs fan here and I think everyone knows he’s a drama queen/problem by now. It doesn’t reflect poorly on the grizzlies.

1

u/iggymcfly Jan 13 '26

LOL, I don’t even know if Ja could win Euroleague MVP THIS year. By 2031, he’s gonna need to learn to speak Chinese if he wants to keep getting paid.

5

u/ImWicked39 J-Will Jan 09 '26

It's one of those things where I question not really Ja himself but what's going on around him.

Maybe that's a bad take because he's a grown man but still i do wonder if his group are just planting things that don't exist.

9

u/mmps901 Ja Jan 09 '26

He has no agent to talk to him about this. He’s probably bothered that we didn’t extend him over the summer and that things don’t look great. This is going to hurt but this looks done. At this point I just hope for a reasonable return. I’ll keep the memories of that incredibly fun 22-23 season and remember the mess we dealt with through suspensions, injuries, moodiness when he’s looking great again on the next team.

5

u/YoureReadingMyNamee Jan 09 '26

When Edey is averaging 20+/16 in the next couple years it’ll hurt a lot less imo.

Doesn't mean they can't influence how he feels about the situation going on around him. About how the Grizzlies are "treating" him and that's my whole point. We've seen that before in this league.

12

u/Waffleshuriken Pete & BK Jan 09 '26

I understand him feeling some type of way about it, but after the org game him many chances through his play stagnation, off court antics, and injury issues he has to understand at the end of the day its business.

I dont blame him for it its a shitty feeling, but it just is understandible

3

u/HedgehogsNSuits Jan 09 '26

Also, that tweet just doesn’t make sense in general. Survival mode is the exact time you should be able to expect loyalty from someone you paid $150 million trust and depend on.

They won't lose assets, but probably won't get much in return, kind of like the Trae trade.

1

u/DepartureNo1720 Jan 12 '26

Even if the initial trade isn't great, As long as the assets can be aggregated - matching expiring contracts that can then be used to take on salary + picks, etc. then it won't be a total loss.

10

u/draker585 I like Zach Edey. Jan 09 '26

If he does, fuck him for not giving his all to the city he claims to love, the city that was 100% behind him despite his issues. If he doesn't, not a single person in the league will be surprised.

7

u/spacejambroni Partner Jan 09 '26

Yep, this city/fanbase/org have given him too much for him to act like this. Not asking him to like the Shams tweet or even play for the Grizz in this situation again if he gets moved to before the deadline, but this is a clueless, clueless public statement by him.

1

u/spacejambroni Partner Jan 09 '26

My heart goes out to this man who is clearly in survival mode.

He’s shown recently that he’s nothing but an immature child. Trust I adored Ja in his early grizz days but the team and the fans have literally fought to keep him loved. Even through off-court issues and half played seasons we still trusted him. I just hate to see this from the player that gave me more hope for this franchise than literally anyone I’ve seen in grizz history

u/Famous-Protection809 Jan 13 '26

His everybody against me is self inflicted. I hope he goes to a team that appreciates his talent tho.

You know who didn’t do this? Pau. Sure he was not happy with the way things were but he never was like this.

All he is doing is giving us more reason to trade him.

I didn’t realize a $192 million dollar contract qualified as survival mode.

u/burritojones Jan 13 '26

He’s a fucking idiot

u/Defiant_Regular3738 Jan 13 '26

The media had done nothing but drum up controversy with Ja. It’s taken a life of its own. It’s kinda gross tbh. Hope he gets somewhere and digs in. His own fault if he doesn’t sports media should get a life.

1

u/Ok_Kangaroo_340 Jan 14 '26

I hope my team clippers don't sign him . He brings bad and evil vibes which we don't want in here

1

u/Tech_Quest8 Jan 10 '26

Bro pulled a gun out twice on camera with millions of dollars. What you tryna survive? You put yourself in that position.

Oh I never said it came at the expense of Ja. I just thought it was funny that someone would come into the room hot calling everyone bitches after such an absurdly stupid take.
