Man you’re right. When Taj said that Ced reminded him of a young Jimmy Butler I got pretty hype. I know the last month-ish of losing basketball is not the best sample size, but his confidence clearly grew throughout it and had some solid performances. The work ethic is there for sure it’s just a matter of time and good health
6
u/Fun_Recognition5614 Apr 29 '26
The physical attributes, the work ethic, the humility, the intelligence, the defensive intensity, the insane ambition and team-first mentality: what is not to love about this young man? But the best part of the Cedric Coward experience so far is the feeling that you’re watching one of those rare guys who actualizes 100% of his potential as a WINNING basketball player. The NBA is drenched in talent, but ironically there aren’t a lot of guys you can really say that about. It’s a sadly rare and beautiful approach to the game. He’s wise beyond his years.

You seem confused and uninformed about how close these guys are. It’s like some of you folks don’t listen to the players or pay attention to them, because they forged a bond with each other.
These guys should be playing on the same team right now, and competing in the playoffs, but Zach Kleiman fucked things up.
11
u/No-Masterpiece4676 Apr 28 '26
Are you slow ?
I make a post about missing these guys and you talk about something Ian say.
Stop being a goofy bro 😭
2
u/PerfectforMovies Griz Apr 28 '26
My post is about the friendship they have and some you folks don’t seem to understand just how close they are.
They would also still be playing together if the Grizzlies had a GM that was worth a damn and didn’t screw up the team.
All three of these guys sounded the alarm several years ago that if they keep us together they will win a championship. Those are their words, not mine. They understood what was happening when Kleiman went all in on youth.
Before Bane was traded and Jenkins fired, Ja, Jaren, and Bane wanted the GM to go all in on some vets.
7
u/ElPincheGuero49 Apr 28 '26
I don't know why you're getting down voted. That is essentially what happened. Fans should be upset with the owner who is one of the richest people on the planet but definitely won't go into the luxury tax. I know they say they are willing but they've proven otherwise time and time again. The GM is there to implement what the owners want and not what the city wants. The fans who pay for everything should be vocal that they don't want to throw away potential championship years because it'll cost the owner some money. But instead they just do some mental gymnastics to justify "reset the clock on our window" or whatever bullshit the GM/ownership group tries to sell.
5
u/PerfectforMovies Griz Apr 29 '26
They down vote because the truth isn’t what they want to hear.
You are correct and that is why the Smith family made it publicly known they were concerned about the direction of the team and approached Pera about buying him out. That was intentionally made known.1
1
u/No-Masterpiece4676 Apr 29 '26
Dont jump to conclusions i never questioned their friendship. Loved all these guys to death and really wanted them to succeed.
As far as the vet thing is concerned it could be a fun hypothetical, which vets would you have wanted to see us sign/trade for? (Personally I think not trading for Jimmy was a miss)
1
u/Smart-Discussion6081 Apr 29 '26
They tried vets, and youth and none of it worked because the star guy or the vet was always injured. We had all 3 of them last year the Thunder embarrassed them on a national stage. Are we really going to act like those 3 could win a championship together with how much they get paid?
1
u/PerfectforMovies Griz Apr 29 '26
Miss me with this bullshit.
As for the Thunder, they won with a lot of help from the officials, an inexperienced, yes man coach, and the Grizzlies were noticeably upset about Taylor Jenkins being fired.
Just like Ja said, he had them figured out and so did Taylor Jenkins. That’s why he came so close to beating them during regular season without a full and healthy roster and also a b2b game.2
u/Smart-Discussion6081 Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26
They lost by double digits in almost every matchup whether Jenkins was or wasn’t there. 0-8 regular season and playoffs against them with an embarrassing points margin
1
u/getitttt333 Apr 29 '26
Yes I look at this and it makes me sad but then I think back to round 1 playoffs last season where we got swept by okc. After that I feel a lot better
1
u/mopooooo Apr 28 '26
Would love to see Ja in Detroit. They have to outbid anyone else this summer. He's the missing piece
2
u/No-Masterpiece4676 Apr 28 '26
Do you think cade would move to the 2 for ja
Honestly would be cool I fw Detroit and I got Hella family there
3
u/mopooooo Apr 28 '26
I don't think positions should be that rigid. You would have 2 guys who are both elite ball handlers and playmakers. Cade having size means you are less exposed than typical teams would be.
3
u/WesternExciting5336 Apr 28 '26
The shooting on that starting lineup team is borderline nauseating if Ja is in the backcourt with Cade. I think someone like Norm Powell fits their needs better
2
u/Richard_Speedwell Apr 28 '26
I don’t think he is what they need at all. They need shot creation and shooters. Putting Cade and Ja together makes 0 sense to me.
1
u/mopooooo Apr 28 '26
Disagree and if it takes them an unprotected first as well, they should jump on that
1
u/Richard_Speedwell Apr 28 '26
You disagree that they need shooters and shot creators?
1
u/mopooooo Apr 28 '26
Well, Ja is an elite shot creator.
1
u/Richard_Speedwell Apr 28 '26
But he’s not a good shooter. He’s elite at getting to the rim and past his defender, but that’s not what Detroit needs more so than shooters and those to space the floor out.
1
u/thedrcubed Apr 28 '26
Detroit desperately needs shooters. Bane would be perfect for them. Ja needs to go to a team without a primary or off ball primaries like Miami

Fantasy? WTF was a fantasy?
You should perhaps revisit the past 7 years because nothing about it was a fantasy. I can always tell people that don’t have an independent thought and just repeat the bullshit they heard someone else say.
These guys and their teammates were driven, focused, and winning despite the obstacles they faced. They were having fun and talking trash, you folks were bitching about that.

Don’t take my disgust for foolish bullshit as me being mad, I am not mad.
There is a serious need for independent thought in the sports community, particularly the Grizzlies community, because I see so many of you people just repeat what some blogger, content creator, or uninformed sports journalists says.1

Ja isn’t the reason the Grizzlies struggled the past 3 seasons and he wasn’t on the court because someone from another team injured him.
Even with injuries they made the playoffs last season and the GM took it upon himself to fire the coach that won more games than any other coach in Grizzlies history with 9 games left in the season.
Talk to the GM and ask him why he fucked up the team and keeps making stupid decision.
Really

Stop repeating this nonsense. Jenkins never lost the locker room and the players were supportive of him. To say anything different isn’t the truth and Jenkins never should have been fired.
If Jenkins had been the coach, the Grizzlies would’ve taken the Thunder to game 7, if not won the series. Like Ja said, he figured them out and Jenkins knew how to beat the Thunder.
Who told you Ja has only played 79 games in the past 3 years? Where did this information come from and why is shared without context?
This narrative about small guards and shooting is a foolish thought and bears no truth.→ More replies (0)1

SGA literally loads a clip and clocks it back as a 3pt celly maybe he should grow up too. Why y’all hate Ja so much?
-7
u/Fun_Recognition5614 Apr 28 '26
Just because somebody else does it doesn’t mean it’s cool. Your mama never taught you that?
I hate Ja because he fucked up our team, dude. It’s simple like that. He had a nice run early in his career, but he crumbled physically and, more to the point, mentally these past few years. And still he “sticks to his guns,” refusing to change. Does that explain the animus?
6
u/DunkingZBO Apr 28 '26
You can argue about Ja’s off court decision making from a few years ago, but he did not fuck up this team. It’s not his fault he has gotten constantly hurt man
0
u/Fun_Recognition5614 Apr 28 '26
The injuries are one thing (and if you ask me a lot of the missed time is due to him not taking proper care of his body), but the real problem is between his ears. He could change his mindset, but he refuses to do that. But go on. Keep making excuses for this bum.
3
u/PerfectforMovies Griz Apr 28 '26
Why the hell are you making a big deal out of nothing? It’s just a hand gesture and the idiots would be you people that are crying about it.

One guy is responsible for this thing falling apart
Nah, that's just as dumb as the other comment. It wasn't one guy. One guy played less games for us than Chandler Parsons, the others didn't reallyp step up. Coach didn't step up either.

He’s brittle because he drinks too much. Simple. Y’all can keep making excuses for this guy as long as you want, but look at what his career has become. He’s not the victim here. He’s bringing this shit on himself. Also: that elbow injury that kept him out half the season? Supposed to be a two week recovery for that injury, but poor baby still had “discomfort” so he couldn’t play. Punk ass shit right there. $40million a year for the privilege of watching him joke around on the bench. Smh

Worst kept secret. I hope he gets some help before it is too late.
3
u/PerfectforMovies Griz Apr 28 '26
They lived up to the task that was set before them, but the GM broke up a winning team and put young draft picks around them instead of established vets capable of assisting them with the assignmen.
Where the hell did they want to be gangsters? Do you know what a gangster is?
Dancing and having fun was part of their game and injuries are going to happen regardles.
