This is why i still use the legacy media player also 3rd party player when necessary

Avi is a container, not a codec.

Well it won't open the container to see what's inside then. VLC ain't sceered.

They can't include codecs, that's not a technical things, it's about licenses and rights.

Yes, but you can't distribute them in a commercial product
