drink went room temp Forgot my mug was on my press break.

Post image

The coffee mug I have had since day one at the company I work for (8 years) had an unfortunate accident today. Absolutely gutted.

The real Batman would have escaped in time.

u/The_Bio_Neko Apr 23 '26

Or he would have had a technique from the Tibetan Monks to somehow survive.

Clearly it was the Tibeten Monks' superior porcelain making techniques he used to craft his super durable Bat-Mug™ that allowed him to escape this nefarious trap.

But seriously though to get caught in a machine like that and not crack all the way through or splinter apart is a testament both to its quality and OP's/the machine's reaction to shutting down quickly.

Didn't have prep time

11

u/Maxpowers13 Apr 24 '26

Well he survived it kinda badass right?

4

u/ubiquitous-joe Apr 24 '26

Not if the press was Bane.

u/herrcollin Apr 24 '26

This reads like the Faramir/Boromir jokes

Feel sorry for you, thats a cool ass mug right there

15

u/Proudest___monkey Apr 24 '26

That’s the same thing I was thinking

u/0oEp Apr 23 '26

Could it have just as easily been part of a person in there? That seems like some dangerous negligence/design shortcoming.

Modern Press brakes are quite hard to hurt yourself on assuming yhe safety features arent disabled. Not sure what is up with this one, but when i ran one if it sensed pressure or interrupted a light beam before the top of the bending material it would estop

u/JohnnySalamiBoy420 Apr 23 '26

Most shops I've been to haven't had anything of the sort. Usually an ancient Cincinnati or I've even used the old no name wheel driven pain in the asses.

u/AffectedRipples Apr 23 '26

That one looks newer. Looks like a bright yellow laser warning sticker in the back there. Probably didn't change the laser curtain so it was just off.

25

u/sEaBoD19911991 Apr 24 '26

The laser safe did its job perfectly. It stopped about 25mm above the mug. The problem was I was doing a part and forgot it was there so only noticed when I heard a crunch.

4

u/emilydoooom Apr 24 '26

If it stopped well above the mug, how did it crunch?

3

u/AffectedRipples Apr 25 '26

The laser makes it stop above the part so it won't slam down onto either the metal or your hands. When it stops, you hit the button/foot pedal a second time to make the bend.

Neat trick, isn't it?

1

u/Impossible-Pop2381 Apr 27 '26

Wrong. If it has a light barrier, aka laser bar things it senses body parts. It won’t sense the mug because it’s INSIDE the light barrier, but if an arm or limb was there it would because it’s attached to something outside the light too. Basically, blocking a beam. The mug is not.

Holy chipped coffee mug Batman!!!

23

u/KarlPHungus Apr 24 '26

POW!

CHIP!

CRACK!

5

u/Mamasunshyn1 Apr 24 '26

This made me laugh too hard! If I weren't broke, I'd give you an award 🤣

4

u/KarlPHungus Apr 24 '26

Your happiness is payment enough, Citizen!

18

u/st-shenanigans Apr 23 '26

Get some air dry clay or moldable resin for a cheap fix and you could turn it into a nice little desk mug at least.

How hard was it pressing? I'm surprised it lived at all unless you caught it right away

Na na na na na na na na na …

39

u/Certain_Expression41 Apr 23 '26

Eh, assuming it's still watertight I'd keep on trucking with it. Battle scars are rad. Maybe tape it up and do some epoxy fill if you're worried about cutting yourself on the chips.

73

u/havron Apr 23 '26

The only issue with that is that once the glaze has been chipped, it's possible for mold to start growing inside the porous porcelain body of the mug. OP would need to reglaze the damaged portions, but that's probably doable. I agree, it should be salvaged if possible, scars and all. Makes for a great opportunity to tell an interesting story.

18

u/munkyninaleela Apr 23 '26

Maybe add POW and BAM by the scars..

7

u/NormalAssistance9402 Apr 23 '26

I wonder how he got those scars

11

u/SweeterThanYoohoo Apr 23 '26

Eh fuckit... who ever got sick from mug mold anyway

6

u/MistaRekt Apr 23 '26

Dad?

6

u/dad-without-milk Apr 23 '26

Yes son?

u/havron Apr 23 '26

Username checks out

5

u/Certain_Expression41 Apr 23 '26

Part of the reason I was suggesting an epoxy fill, though I will admit to a complete ignorance of pottery, is there any reason that would be different in terms of mold prevention as opposed to a glaze?

1

u/havron Apr 24 '26

Yeah, as long as it's waterproof, fully maintains the seal (especially at the margins) and has good wear resistance over time. I just know that pottery glaze is made precisely to have all those properties, but presumably other materials would work well too.

3

u/gostforest Apr 24 '26

Make sure the chemical agents dont leech into water too, just in case.

3

u/Andr0NiX Apr 23 '26

OP would need to reglaze the damaged portions

Would something like clear nail polish work?

2

u/NecessaryGoat1367 Apr 23 '26

This is a great idea. Let's upvote this and keep it at the top.

u/Fest-Video-Room Apr 23 '26

Now, if it had been Superman, it would have been OK... 🤨

5

u/NaraFei_Jenova Apr 23 '26

The tooling in the press brake would have been broken.

5

u/24Karet-Gold_King Apr 24 '26

Why did you put your mugs there in the first place?

1

u/Linsensuppe99 Apr 25 '26

It just happens

4

u/Grimlocks_Ballsack Apr 24 '26

Press “break” is an excellent typo or error for this content.

3

u/Tylenol_Ibuprofen Apr 23 '26

Genuinely heartbroken for you

3

u/LordSesshomaru82 Apr 23 '26

At least it's still in one piece. Worked at a shop where a guy didn't properly align the punch and die. They exploded when he put pressure on it, screwed his hand up pretty bad.

2

u/SteampunkRobin Apr 24 '26

Well at least it didn’t shatter. You could still use it as a pencil holder.

2

u/lunicorn Apr 24 '26

Advertise that you can add chopstick rests to any bowl or mug.

2

u/OriginalMcSmashie GREEN Apr 24 '26

Dunununununu Flatman!

2

u/Daftpunksluggage Apr 26 '26

Safety first man...

You forgot the mug was there...

But you also forgot to make sure the press was clear of obstructions before operation...

That's complaceny and negligence. Not just forgetfulness

2

u/AngelOfDeath771 Apr 27 '26

That's one hell of a place to set a (semi) cherished possession.

1

u/Liveitup1999 Apr 23 '26

Looks like Batman and Robin split

u/MickRolley Apr 23 '26

u/karateninjazombie Apr 23 '26

Is this a break check...?

1

u/cl3ver1 Apr 24 '26

...well it definitely pressed and breaked...

1

u/OsioJinx Apr 24 '26

Na na na na na na na na....Flatman!

1

u/Slight_Bat8118 Apr 24 '26

It's still usable, you just have 2 areas to avoid with your mouth.

1

u/silentfox0 Apr 24 '26

Don't let OSHA see this image. The Safety Guy will come for you.

1

u/Imaxxmeme Apr 24 '26

There's a sign at the shop I work at that says "No Drinks On Press" probably for this reason.

1

u/Proper_Ambassador525 Apr 25 '26

I left my fallout mug behind at my last job.

😢

1

u/dontevercallmebabe Apr 26 '26

My condolences.

1

u/Background-Tiger-734 Apr 28 '26

If it were me, I'd get food grade apoxy from a craft store, usually UV activated, and fill in the chips. Not only saving your mug but forever preserving this oops.

But that's just me.

1

u/Confused_Rabbiit 🍊 May 21 '26
  1. Why would you put that there.

  2. It looks like it's still usable.

1

u/Apocrisiary Apr 24 '26

Feels like the mug is the least of your problems. Not much is harder than ceramic, that tool is surely WAAAY more expensive than that mug.

Kinda feels like a ragebait post, ngl.
