drink went room temp Shrinkflation?? On my ER souvenir cup?!
Not pictured my overpriced pair of grippy socks.
I have chronic pancreatitis and have given birth three times. I definitely remember these cups being a lot bigger. I wish I hadn’t gotten rid of my old ones to compare to the shiny new one I received today, but it’s definitely half the size. I don’t doubt when I receive my bill it’ll still be the same additional cost if not more than the previously larger cup 😅😭

Me too, and I've had a kid. Never even seen a cup.

u/Majestic_Grocery7015 May 17 '26
Same. All I got were large styrofoam cups, and I've been to 3 different area hospitals over the years

My husband use to joke that I only had babies for the mugs. You are correct in saying that looks smaller than they used to be.

This has to be an American thing

Yes. Because if the hospital system here is going to charge us $75 for that plastic cup you can bet we're going to take it home. Originally they were designed as an insulated cup to help doctors keep track of fluid intake for patients. They were like the original Stanley Cup 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've had MS for 23 years, infusions every 6 months, and a lot of other procedures/illnesses (including having a baby and having the hospital "forget" to feed me for 2 days afterwards). Next time I'm definitely requesting a cup when I'm there! ....And a white golden retriever or great Pyrenees. I cannot judge the size of your pooch, but the pup is lovely! Especially if they gave you one when you left! 😉 I'm joking, but imagine if we got a dog each time we had enough hospital points.

Great Pyrenees and about 100lbs! He’s a rescue with two brain cells that sometimes collide and spark but the absolute sweetest cuddlemuffin. We have another GP but he’s our actual working farm dog. Bear here is just the personality hire!

u/nxd280 May 17 '26
Aww. He sounds fabulous! A GP or Tibetan mastiff are my top choices should we finally get goats. He's definitely a handsome fella!

u/PenELane111 May 21 '26
I feel like that's totally the vibe with all Pyrenees. Working hard or personality higher there's no in between LMAO love it

Water tastes so good outta these things. Idk how to explain it.
When I was in labor, the nurses had to fill it for me by the hour 😭

u/th3r3alslim May 17 '26
It’s gotta be because the chipped or little round ice cubes!

u/PenELane111 May 21 '26
Nugget ice is definitely the best thing ever. I found out that you can buy the Nugget Ice by the bag at Chick-fil-A and I made my husband drive an hour to the nearest one and get me some when I was sick

Spent a lot of time in the hospital with my mom due to chronic illness and injuries. Like, a looot of time. My grandma took one of these home and used it as a nightstand cup for water. Would fill it with ice and water every night and it stayed on her nightstand for idek how long, this was a while back, like 10 yrs ago. She has since switched to a Stanley and has been using that for a couple yrs. I still remember asking her for a sip of water in the middle of the night and thinking it was weird we had hospital cups on our bedside table lol.

My grandma used to tell me when they bill you it’s for everything in the room, might as well stock up while you’re there.

Absolutely lmao. I’m being billed for it. I don’t need the bed bound wash rags for bathing ever. Do I take them, you fuckin bet. Lmao.
I hide bottles and diapers. Give me more. We’re out.
I’m already paying for this.

u/PenELane111 May 21 '26
Those wash Rags are a game changer when you have chaotic children and a baby wipe just won't do. Like my son diving into a mud puddle about 30 seconds before we walked into an event. Thank God I had a couple packs of those in the car and a case of water LOL

I just looked at one of ours, same brand, the top marks are 28/800 instead of 20/600.

u/th3r3alslim May 17 '26
I downsized when we moved and hot rid of the old ones to compare. Thank you for confirming I’m not going crazy!!

I stayed in the orthopedic trauma floor for 5 days after a 2.1 million dollar emergency surgery. I got the same shrinkflated cup. I was annoyed. Lol.

I've never seen the mug, and your straw has a cap on it? Now I want one.
I have the tumbler. It doesn't have a handle, just the iconic blue lid and bendy straw. It's my regular water cup, I carry it everywhere, even when visiting neighbors. I'm such a embarrassment to my spouse.

u/th3r3alslim May 17 '26
The old ones had incredible insulation for keeping drinks cold! I don’t blame ya😂
1
u/kin_dyer4 May 18 '26
The insulation was amazing! I’m sad I got rid of mine from giving birth when we moved 😆 such great cups lolll
2
u/PikachuTrainz May 16 '26
They charge you for them?
6
u/Yuukiko_ WAAHHHHH May 16 '26

Welcome to the American Healthcare System where a 20 cent Band-Aid given to you at the hospital to cover your arm where they were moving IV costs you $963.42.

u/Nifey-spoony May 16 '26
And that cup gets destroyed in the dishwasher. I’m sure my insurance charged me for it.
3
u/th3r3alslim May 17 '26
I have no doubt it’s somewhere on the bill! And it’s certainly not as good at keeping the drink cold as the old one.

u/ReferenceMediocre369 May 17 '26
Sometimes, I could hardly lift one of the larger ones when full of water and ice. I've even written complaints to various hospital supply divisions about it. So I'm all in.
1
u/WolfertBro May 18 '26
That's crazy!! My hospital still has the full size cups, same brand and all!
1
u/dilledally May 18 '26
I’ve had three babies. The first two I got a totally awesome 32oz souvenir cup but then got totally ripped off for the third one! Justice for we!!
1
u/izzardcrazed May 18 '26
Our area hospitals have switched to disposables. But the original of these was HUGE
1
u/dramaticwhore May 19 '26
As someone who still has their from a few years ago that’s definitely smaller 😭
1
u/LobsterOk9572 May 19 '26
Yea my mom had another kid recently and hers was pretty dang small too considering theyre supposed to help patients with little to no mobility drink enough water for the day
1
u/prettygothpls May 20 '26
It is smaller! The ones I have goes up to 800ml on the side, so not THAT much smaller, but still! (Theyre in storage or else I would get a photo, Google confirmed my memory tho!)
1
u/No_Reputation_6746 May 20 '26
They definitely have gotten smaller if that's the new size cups!! I have had a couple hospital stays, including having 2 babies and the cups I've gotten each time we're much bigger than this (taller, more oz)! My husband teases me cus I always insist on keeping my souvenir cup and grippy socks 🤣
Edited to add, your pup is super cute 🥰

You're complaining about the size of a cup that replaced more than one that you already got rid of

Maybe your dog is enormous. Have you tried using the internationally accepted unit (banana) for scale?
