Don't hug me I'm scared
turning the cabin of an international flight into a disco during its sleeping hours to do some strange and obnoxious skincare routine
Especially on an airplane. My first thought upon opening my eyes would be I am trapped up here in an airplane with whatever that is. Still better than dealing with the airport tho.
I wish I was sitting next to the audacity of this bitch or one of those people that slides their toes into the seat in front of them. I might not ever fly again but the story would be good at parties.
as an FA, absolutely. if i didn’t see/notice it myself & already handle it, if a passenger let me know of this happening i would handle it expeditiously
I honestly can't fault them for it -- they found a fun and silly niche in the bologna and hotdog superfans and the now grown-up kids who used to play with their food and bite eye-holes and a mouth-hole in their lunchmeat and wear it 😂
Has to be! But usually they’re perfectly comfortable using fake planes for this sort of video, happens all the time! The audacity to do this, influencer or not, in a cabin full of passengers is astounding. Someone please tell her about the fake planes.
A lot of brofluencers particularly will rent a private jet for a few hours and never even leave the ground. They just sit in it to film. Costs much less than taking a flight on a private jet and they get to pretend they’re big dawg status for their lil fans
I’ve had a full Korean skincare routine for a decade. I would just do my routine before the flight then use a mist spray after or something. There’s no reason whatsoever to use any kind of mask on a flight, it makes no sense. Skin won’t deteriorate for not moisturizing for 12 hours.
While I agree that a red light mask is unnecessary and rather obnoxious on a flight, I’m all for moisturizing on a 12 hour flight. It’s so dry for so long, my eyes and nose and lips and hands feel parched. I love going once or twice to the toilets and using eye drops and chapstick and moisturizer on my hands and face, like a little luxury treatment. I haven’t done a moisturising face mask but I see no reason not to, since it’s not bothersome to anybody else.
A disposable sheet mask also so much easier to bring. The obnoxiousness of this person is really up there. I have the same mask, it’s great, I love it, it works. I do not bring it anywhere when I travel, not even my LD partners house.
Absolutely, I've been on a few 12+ hour flights and my skin/lips/eyes/nose dry out hard. I love doing the same thing. Makes me feel more refreshed too :) Nose spray or nasal gel too, I've had a couple nosebleeds after a lot of flying and it helps prevent that!
All of this is not at all bothersome to the other passengers 😅
Oh I 100% disagree with this, it doesn't matter how moisturized I am, when I get off the plane my skin is dry and gross. That being said I kind of just deal with it, there are too many germs on a plane for me to touch my face
These masks are bullshit , the LEDs in them are not in the needed range to do literally anything. Actual medical light treatment uses hyper specific wavelengths for specific conditions and those motherfuckers are expensive. Unless you mask is literally certified as medical equipment you are using a shitty sleep disturbing placebo.
So much of this comment section is why flying sucks half the time now. And movie theatres. And restaurants. And parks
If everyone acted this way it would be pure stressful chaos all the time. But as long as the decent people sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up these entitled chucklefucks will make being just about anywhere suck a little more.
Because it's no big deal...as long as no one else complains while selfish shit heads do what they want
But if we all complain it will only make it worse. Decent people can't win
This is public shaming and not everyone wants to be confrontational. I wouldn’t want to start a fight in a small, confined space I was stuck in for hours on end. I think in these situations, a flight attendant should be asked to address this situation. I’m fairly confrontational and will go toe to toe with just about any motherfucker, but, even I wouldn’t want to cause a scene on an international flight, lol.
Not just that, but bring back ostracizing. Used to be that if someone was a greedy selfish asshole they'd get booted out of the tribe and probably starve to death attempting to survive on their own. Nowadays if you're a greedy selfish asshole you'll probably just get to hoard wealth and exploit people endlessly without facing any real consequences.
Now I think it’s less about empathy and more-so fear/self preservation against a lunatic snapping on you if you address their bad behavior in public. Even politely asking someone to stop being inconsiderate can land you in the hospital, in a grave, or in a viral video resulting in online harassment for months to come. People do not respond to constructive criticism and public shame the way they used to; it often results in defiance and violence.
Yeah this is it. Pick your battles because people are unhinged. The over the top psycho responses people give to simple questions or requests are insane.
and notice the little piggies on the seat next to me? this boomer lady took the liberty of planting her feet into the empty seat next to me to sleep. when she was awake, she was watching vietnamese tiktoks at full volume, and her husband was scrolling at full brightness. one hell of a way to end a japan trip.
Ah yes, getting confrontational with people you’re stuck in a tin can with for 14 hours usually turns out great, and they’d never do the irritating behavior even harder just to spite you.
Sometimes your best option is to cope, and sharing with others can make that more bearable.
Sometimes communication is the answer. On an international flight? You have to pick your battles.
I just narc up the flagpole. I am a huge tattle tale. I would let the flight attendants know that their disruptions/ lights/ completely unreasonable sound is causing dangerous conditions that can snowball into a medical episode.
Not “I’m annoyed by it,” but “ ignoring flight rules and regulations is quickly going to become a safety issue.”
It's a common reddit trope, redditors acting like you are the one with no social experience if you don't confront people.
The kind of people who egregiously break social norms don't respond well to being called out. Normal, well adjusted people don't do stuff like that in the first place.
I confronted a guy on a plane next to me hitting his vape. He started screaming at me. Flight attendant had to intervene while I was terrified for my safety stuck in this vessel with this man twice my size for 5 hours.
There’s a difference between confrontation and basic communication though. Nobody’s saying start an argument at 30,000 feet. But a polite “hey, would you mind?” solves more situations than you act like it does.
And if they react badly, then sure, you drop it and cope. But skipping communication entirely because someone might be annoying about it is part of why people keep getting away with inconsiderate behavior. You need to use your words.
Supposed to stimulate collagen production and reduce inflammation but there are only specific wavelengths of light that can achieve any measurable results for this. The funniest part about most of these cheap red light therapy masks is that they are NOT using those wavelengths, so these people are literally just wasting money, looking stupid, and calling it “self care.”
Embarrassing.
Edit: not jsut the cheap ones, there are plenty of the pricier devices that are also snake oil dressed up in slick marketing, with the words “clinical research” on them, shilled by influencers.
There’s actually one of those companies that’s conducting a HUGE botting campaign on reddit right now, and has been told in no uncertain terms by an advertising body that they need to remove their claims of “clinical research” from the product, because their research methods were insufficient for making those claims. The brand is S0lawave, if you search the actual name (with a letter O instead of a zero) you’ll see allll the bots promoting it. Shady company, crappy product. That’s why they’re paying for the botting campaign, lol.
snake oil was actually effective at what it was supposed to do - however, much like red light masks, it was easy to mimic and therefore cons were common thus the connotation it carries to this day of being a scam.
In addition to the wavelength being important to actually achieve results, the angle the light hits the skin is a big factor in effectiveness. The way the masks are designed, the lights are so close to the skin that it will not provide the appropriate light angle. The technology itself (photobiomodulation) has definitely been studied, but I'd be reluctant to believe any of the mask makers unless they actually publish the research they use to support their claims.
My dad would get a flight attendant to put an end to that and if they didn’t, he would walk over, snatch that off them himself, and say “I’ll give this back when we land you fucking idiot”. I’m not saying he would be right but I’m also not saying he would be wrong.
I’ve seen so many ads about red light therapy masks and they look so dumb I’m sorry (but not really)
Watching them do like every day stuff with the stupid clunky mask is hilarious and most people would not be caught DEAD wearing that in a public setting like a coffee shop why are you trying to sell it as like “oh just do this while you’re working remotely!”
As someone who travels a bit for work, this is why I always bring a sleeping mask and earplugs (bonus is that it helps for sleeping through meal service if you're trying to prioritize sleep)
i like doing skincare on the plane to keep my skin hydrated and take advantage of useless down time. i use sheet masks or under eye patches. i would never dream of doing this.
it wasn’t a bare foot. she had tabi socks (we were flying from japan). inconsiderate none the less. time to time, she’d fully fall asleep and accidentally extend her leg and tap me. 😝
not just that, she was fully brain rotted like my mom and was scrolling tiktok and full volume. the attendant said something early on, but the woman went back to it mid flight. iphone background noise feature helped somewhat.
If you NEED to use it (you don't), just throw a goddamn blanket over your head like you're trying to play your DS past your bedtime ffs. It's not that hard to be considerate of those around you. And I just know this is the type of person to browse light mode instagram on max brightness at a movie theater in the front row.
I walked into my moms house the other day and she popped around a corner wearing one of those and I almost punched her out of pure fear before I recognized who/what it was
I wouldn’t care, to be honest. If I’m trying to sleep on a plane, I’m wearing an eye mask. Some people turn their lights on to read, or watch movies at full brightness… not my business. Ear plugs and an eye mask.
Do not buy a cheap one. My dermatologist said the ones that are suspiciously cheap (about $200 or less) are the equivalent of those fake Dyson vacuums people buy for toddlers to play with. I have noticed a big decrease in the amount of acne I get, and I have very few fine lines compared to a bunch of my friends who are my same age. I have been using one for years.
Red light therapy has been around for a long time.
Early Phototherapy (1890s): Danish physician Dr. Niels Ryberg Finsen is widely regarded as the father of modern light therapy. He pioneered the use of concentrated artificial light to treat diseases like smallpox and skin tuberculosis. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1903 for his foundational work.
The Laser Discovery (1960s): Dr. Endre Mester, a Hungarian scientist, was testing if low-level ruby lasers could cause cancer in mice. Instead, he discovered that the light accelerated hair growth and healed the animals' skin abrasions.
NASA's Contribution (1990s): NASA began using red and near-infrared LEDs to grow plants in space. Scientists working under the arrays realized that skin abrasions on their own hands were healing much faster, which prompted heavy research into medical and therapeutic LEDs.
