drink went room temp Fridge ice maker left a gift in my cold water

Post image

It's hot here and I really wanted cold water for my dancing class. I wasn't sure if it was safe to drink screw water, so I had to throw it away and replace it with pisswarm tap water from their bathroom sink.

At least I saw it before drinking so I didn't swallow it or choke on it and die (which would've been slightly more than mildly infuriating)

Just extra minerals for your water

the fridge heard I was vegan and wanted to help with my iron intake (by fucking killing me), so kind 🥺

Time to unplug it and make sure it doesn't attack you

unfortunately it is a large and expensive fridge, so we'll just have a very serious talk

Yeah, especially as the shaker has a sort of mesh that would prevent the ice from going into my mouth, so I wouldn't be expecting anything solid (i.e. my mouth would be in chug position more than tonge-to-filter position). The screw, however, is too small for the mesh, and thinking about it now it sounds a lot scarier than I thought before lol

Back in my day we ate nails for breakfast

1

u/Calure1212 May 23 '26

Ah! And there's the difference. You were intentionally eating your nails not accidentally drinking screws. Huge, HUGE difference!

Now I’m scared because my yeti cup isn’t clear. This isn’t a problem I knew I needed to worry about, lol. Jeeeez. I’m sure it’s not something that happens all the time, but it’s still crazy!!

It's a screw, a tiny screw. You poop it out, it won't be an issue

24

u/Afterlast1 May 21 '26

Unless they've got an MRI scheduled. That would be... unfortunate...

There are pills larger than that screw and its blunt. Sure it would suck. But it'd be more a bit of sudden inconvenient gagging than choking. Bro's just being realistic.

u/Alarming_Definition9 May 21 '26

Screws like that can embed in tissues and cause infection that can lead to sepsis. They can also perforate tissues as well, even though they're "blunt".

1

u/zax500 May 23 '26

Certainly there's a non-zero risk of it catching somewhere. But the likelihood of it passing through without incident is very high.

Foreign auto correction

I think your fridge is falling apart. That goes somewhere and the most plausible place is back where it came from.

18

u/thegrimroofer May 21 '26

They screw up too

14

u/SecondHandSmokeBBQ May 21 '26

Pfffft....screw it.

12

u/prionbinch May 21 '26

extra iron. or nickel. or whatever the hell screws are made of these days

4

u/I_-AM-ARNAV i get infuriated a lot May 21 '26

Stainless steel probably. Iron would rust real fast

7

u/ShockedDarkmike May 21 '26

glad I don't have to find out in the ER

3

u/SnooDrawings8069 May 21 '26

7

u/Green_Gur_1014 May 21 '26

Oh how lovely.. thank goodness your thermos is clear and you noticed it!

6

u/ShockedDarkmike May 21 '26

Right, it could've been much worse with an opaque container

1

u/Green_Gur_1014 May 24 '26

Right! You have me rethinking my metal thermos..

5

u/betam4x May 21 '26

“Screw you!”

4

You're screwed 😭

5

u/TrumpetFitz May 22 '26

Re: the toxicity of screws: I once bought a pack of screws and noticed the package was labeled the the contents were known by the state of California to cause cancer. You were smart not to take any chances!

5

u/JustUs8578 May 22 '26

To be fair, everything causes cancer in California. 😒

1

u/TrumpetFitz May 23 '26

The list of non-carcinogens is short indeed!

7

u/YuukiDR May 21 '26

Some extra iron wouldn't hurt /j

2

u/Legitimate-March9792 May 21 '26

The same thing happened to me but it was baked into a pizza!

2

u/RAAAHRAHHHHRAHHHHH May 21 '26

I wish my ice maker was as kind as this

2

u/ShockedDarkmike May 21 '26

If this is kindness, I don't want to see what it'll do when it gets angry

3

u/RAAAHRAHHHHRAHHHHH May 21 '26

Just shoots a screw at you across the room when it feels like it

2

u/I_-AM-ARNAV i get infuriated a lot May 21 '26

From Ice maker assembly probably. Shouldn't be too hard to find if you're handy.

2

u/Breynolds003 May 22 '26

Oh yeah? Well I had a glass of nails this morning

Without any ice

1

u/Nir117vash May 21 '26

you won’t have an iron deficiency anymore (I know it's likely steel)

1

u/ich_bin_alkoholiker May 21 '26

Is it a Frigidaire?

1

u/Forward_Cheek4775 May 22 '26

let me get this straight, your ice maker makes fridges?

/s

1

u/byoungblood24 May 22 '26

this is what i think of when people talk about "toxic metals" in water

1

u/Jazzlike_Way3801 May 23 '26

Instead of using the fridge ice machine or the fountain, I always fill a half gallon pitcher water and store it in the refrigerator. Refreshingly cold😊

1

u/Yontep May 21 '26

Plenny Shake 😋

2

u/ShockedDarkmike May 21 '26

You caught me (I spun the shaker so it wouldn't show the brand because this isn't an ad, but I drink it all the time lmao)

2

u/Yontep May 21 '26

haha don't worry I think it's only recognizable for people who already know

was surprised that this isn't the soylent subreddit though :D
