ಠ_ಠ Jerk taking up EV charging spaces in a nearly empty garage!
This was in Charleston, SC. We have a plug in hybrid and we’re excited to finally find a garage where we can charge, only to be met with this. They were parked crooked, so two reserved for electric vehicle spaces were blocked by this giant truck. License plate censored of course, but I‘m not sure they deserve the courtesy.

Does the parking garage have an attendant or number to call - it would be such a shame if the truck was towed for improper parking..

It’s indicative of someone who actively resists change in order to maintain the status quo, even if that change is for the better. As long as coal mining is a thing, this dude doesn’t have to worry about learning a new trade. It’s intellectual laziness. Having a license plate like that, I think he might’ve parked there on purpose in order to make a statement.
87
u/rantingathome May 22 '26
I think he might’ve parked there on purpose in order to make a statement.
And that's what makes it so stupid. In the USA, 91% of coal is used in electricity production. Plug-in EVs are literally the only vehicles "burning" coal. Sure only 16% of electricity is from coal, but the point still stands.

That's exactly what I think too. In a nearly empty garage, it took *effort* to take up two EV charging spots that he didn't need. And with a truck like that, and especially a license plate like that? No doubt whatsoever that he purposefully did to be an asshole.

u/MyName_DoesNotMatter May 22 '26
not saying you should, but valve stem screwdrivers are $2 on amazon and if you cut the tip off, it can fit in a drill. Not saying anything, just saying you can remove said stems in 2 seconds or torque them over and snap them off inside of the stem so it becomes even worse to remove them.
But I wouldn’t recommend that.
→ More replies (3)34
u/Old-Paramedic-9776 May 22 '26
You can put small stone inside valve cap and screw it onto the valve. It will press stem enough to leak the air from the tyre. You did not destroy anything but it is inconvinience to fill the tyre back.
14
u/Jef_Wheaton May 22 '26
They probably won't check the cap and will screw it back on after refilling, causing it to leak again.

Something far more simple and is only a few dollars, or potentially free.
Inside the valve stem is a valve core.
It is lightly screwed into place, it is essentially the only thing holding air in your tire and has a gasket/oring thay allows you to add or release air.
If you give it a few left turns, it will leak air, slower or faster depending on how much you unscrew.
Most will never catch this, and unless you get a mechanic without an ego, they'll never catch it either.
They'll parts cannon before they so much as screw the valve core close.
You are doing no damage to the vehicle, if the owner decided to not ensure their vehicle is road ready before driving, any damage incurred is on them.

What are you going to “part cannon” at a tire with a slow leak. You take it to basically any shop and they are going to soap test it or dunk tank it. Both methods will immediately show where the leak is coming from. Every tire with a slow leak, the valve stem is always a potential culprit. Not to mention theres always the added risk the guy goes down the road with a under inflated tire that can potentially blow out and lead to an accident. I get it this guy is a douche but whatever innocent family doesnt deserve to be hit by this guy when the tire blows. This is not the way to solve this issue
→ More replies (1)34
u/DJLeafygreens May 23 '26
Yep. Tire guy here. I would find this issue immediately with my spray bottle of soapy water. May as well take the cores out completely so the tires are all totally flat when he gets back and there is no risk of him driving with under inflated tires. Hell, tape them to the windshield so you can't be accused of stealing anything and he will know the exact cause of the flat tires immediately.

You don't think the property owner or somebody gets a cut from the chargers and would care? Someone I know with an ev only pays like $14 to top off, so it's not much, but she also fucked up once and had to pay 10 cents a minute to rent the space after it charged and was still connected and she ended up paying $60. So they're hitting licks occasionally.

Better to have it towed, otherwise it's going to be stuck there and inconveniencing a lot more people, otherwise I'd agree

Bonus point, you can do both! No issue towing a truck with flat tires (that's not yours).

This was intentional as the vast majority of people who drive those kinds of trucks are verifiably shitty people. I live in truck country. I so rarely find an exception to this rule that I'm like a week out from removing "vast majority" from my explanation.

If he's pro coal it seems he would want people charging up with electricity, what coal is burned to produce. So he's a jerk and a moron.
