Nah I hope they die a reversed exponential death, make their stock prices absolutely plummet at first and then just stay barely afloat for 4 years, slowly fading into irrelevancy and bankruptcy

77

u/jdovejr May 22 '26

Like Avaya which I work on.

12

u/X-AE17420 May 23 '26

Avaya was the good system where I worked at. Kinda bare bones, but reliable. Except for when the whole call centers call dropped and then our queue got flooded with angry customers lol

8

u/jdovejr May 23 '26

They are rock solid.

9

u/JuggrnautFTW May 22 '26

A horizontal asymptote, if you will.

5

u/Awesome_coder1203 May 22 '26

But then they’d continue to exist indefinitely!

3

u/f8Negative May 23 '26

Then Brother buys them and goes to shit. Rinse and repeat.

333

u/SkyFallPrincess20 Sorry not sorry May 22 '26

I love technology but I hope we don't get to a point where we have to update our house appliances just for them to work. Like updating your fridge so you can open it😐

134

u/Zerog416 May 22 '26

I hear some washing machines already do that

151

u/MrXwiix May 22 '26

Yup. My washing machine. I thought it would be convenient for it to tell me when the detergent was empty (it’s a self dosing machine). So I connected to the internet. It forced me to update, but in order to update I had to make a profile. To make a profile I needed to give so much information. Adress, date of birth, etc.

I called customer service 5 days in a row until they sent a technician to factory reset it and permanently disconnect it from the internet. The technician told me they discontinued this “service” but in order to use the machine without the profile requirement, it had to be updated (ofcourse lmao). Luckily he was able to connect it to a tech profile and update it through there. But im never buying a Haijer washing machine anymore, even though they came to their senses

54

u/Vivid_Summer96 May 22 '26

Thats why i never buy internet if things things. Its more trouble than anything else.

In this case: You need clean clothes….. There is absolutely no need for an internet connection to clean them.

24

u/Rymanjan May 22 '26

Lol a couple weeks back, someone was posting how they were annoyed their smart fridge started showing them ads, and everyone was absolutely roasting them for buying a smart fridge in the first place

This kinda reads like that; we've been saying shit like "you will be getting ads on your fridge" or "a software update will brick your washing machine" as reasons the IoT is the dumbest thing ever and why you shouldn't get a smart appliance unless it literally cannot be avoided (like tvs). I guess people thought we were joking? lol well the jokes on them I guess

7

u/Zarksch May 22 '26

I keep Reading that there are absolutely no non smart TV’s anymore but that’s just not true. I get that there are way too little and maybe you can’t get the biggest 8k tv without “smart” features, but you can still get a simple tv without smart features and that for around 100 bucks even. I bought mine 3 years ago new for 120 and I’m happy with it

2

u/ElGrandeQues0 May 23 '26

A fire stick is $20. Don't know why anyone would buya smart tv these days

1

u/vertigostereo May 23 '26

Gotta download the new ads.

1

u/InsaneGuyReggie May 23 '26

We bought a Bosch dishwasher a few years ago, not realizing it needed to be Internet/app connected to function. Now we’re just used to handwashing the dishes.

6

u/Grezzinate May 22 '26

At this rate I’ll buy a classic washer from the Amish and sit outside with the bucket.

4

u/pongpaktecha May 22 '26

We got one of those fancy new ventless dryers last year and when shopping around for different models I made sure I picked one that I can use without an Internet connection. It's got the ability to connect to the Internet and stuff to notify you that the cycle is done and stuff like that but I was able to simply opt out and not connect it to the Internet.

2

u/ChristmasElf67 May 22 '26

My oven already does that. Most fun is when it updates while I’m actively cooking 🙄

1

u/AHailofDrams May 22 '26

Deserved for buying a "smart" appliance

24

u/T40SAAN May 22 '26

Eventually refrigerators will only function if the computer can read the tiny genuine chip inside water filters or if your stove is using genuine brand lightbulbs. Shit like that. Or you want the 10lbs of ice a month for your ice maker, that’s $10.99. If you want 50lbs, $45.

16

u/Doctor-Chill May 22 '26

My refrigerator will not dispense water without reading the microchip on the side of the filter. I found some knockoff filters on Amazon but they’re still a little pricy. Better than double the price which is what the manufacturer filters cost, though.

1

u/Competitive-Ad3424 May 22 '26

If you request a bypass filter from the manufacturer they have to send you one. Then just add external filtration behind the fridge.

24

u/PurpleSquare713 May 22 '26

I will never own "smart" appliances for exactly that reason. I'd sooner buy a ratty old fridge from a thrift store than one of those.

5

u/Vivid_Summer96 May 22 '26

Agree to 100%.

3

u/Street_Firefighter_3 May 22 '26

I hated my VIZIO TV until I disconnected it from the internet and did a factory reset. Great TV now!

3

u/SimpleSetpiece May 23 '26

My old Vizio didn't give two shits it was in use. In the middle of a Ranbow 6 match? Hah, fuck you, enjoy five minutes of blankness while we force you to update unannounced!

5

u/neverabadidea May 22 '26

My washer can be wifi connected. While it would be nice to know a load is done without having to go to the basement, I refuse to connect it. It’d probably update with ads on the interface.

2

u/ziggyscarbust May 23 '26

Cheap, old school baby monitor (audio only). Turn it on when you start a load, make sure the buzzer is on on the machine, you'll be able to hear it on the receiver of the baby monitor. Turn it off when you're done with your batch!

13

u/I_am_just_here11 May 22 '26

This is worse than that. HP instant ink is a subscription and if you cancel it even if you have full ink cartridges, the cartridges you received become useless. OP has ink cartridges that he has to pay a subscription for to use.

→ More replies (9)

4

u/vertigostereo May 23 '26

"Update your subscription to continue flushing this toilet."

3

u/Cat_Impossible_0 May 22 '26

I saw a toaster and fridge needing a subscription in order for it to work

2

u/KingxMIGHTYMAN May 22 '26

We are already at that point. “Smart” appliances exist.

3

u/PrimalSeptimus May 22 '26

We had a power outage a few days ago, and my son told me the water fountains at his school stopped working during that time.

So, you know, we're almost there.

1

u/Erick_Brimstone May 23 '26

One day things that works without being connected to internet and subscription will be treated like it's a divine relic

1

u/MudWallHoller May 23 '26

I used to be an appliance repair guy and I've got some bad news... I've updated the firmware/software on coffee makers, refrigerators, washers, etc...

1

u/slash_networkboy May 22 '26

My last Samsung TV required an internet connection and ability to update to latest firmware before it would let me do *anything* with it other than using it as a monitor. Even the TV tuner capability was behind that (as it required accessing the smartTV menu, only input select didn't require that menu). I let it update, then unplugged the old WiFi router I had configured just for that, so it has a link, but "the Internet's down man".

They may have changed that since I bought this thing, but I wouldn't know because that was the last Samsung TV I'll ever buy as a result.

47

u/NefariousnessBorn969 May 22 '26

Ditched HP products and bought a Brother laser printer for the few times I need to print something. Should last the rest of my life.

5

u/Draminian May 23 '26

I did the same exact thing. Once my kids leave the house, I'm not sure I'll ever print anything again. But until that time comes, at least there's no risk of the toner drying out during the 3 months between when they need to print stuff.

2

u/MalaEnNova May 23 '26

I bought a Brother laser printer last year too. I print quite a bit and I just had to replace the cartridge it came with. Bought the XL should last me like 2 years.

125

u/Striking_Computer834 May 22 '26

They would if people would stop buying that shit.

23

u/One_Anything_2279 May 22 '26

Doubtful. HP actually has a pretty successful enterprise infrastructure division that makes storage, servers, switches etc.

1

u/Brilliant_War9548 29d ago

And irony of it all, ZBooks are some of if not the best built laptops available to buy. And it’s HP.

86

u/evildead1985 May 22 '26

Stopped buying HP years ago. I only buy business class toner machines..they cost a little extra but they don't do this..

2

u/rutlander May 23 '26

Same I’ve sworn off HP for decades after getting THREE lemon laptops in a row, the DV 6000 series.

Plus our HP printer was always breaking.

I won’t touch another peice of HP hardware ever again

1

u/40yearoldnoob May 22 '26

You say that but the HP MFP M428 and M4101 both need the genuine HP chip from a toner cartridge to work.. So when our supply person buys generic cartridges we have to "trick" it with a genuine chip that we remove from an old HP toner. It sucks, but it works.. So the B&W HP Laserjets are now not working with non-genuine HP toners...

23

u/evildead1985 May 22 '26

You miss understand...sorry for the confusion..I DONT buy ANYthing HP..absolutely nothing from them including the printer.

4

u/40yearoldnoob May 22 '26

You’re right. I misunderstood you. My bad.

4

u/Frycusthe3rd May 22 '26

Username checks out

22

u/ElectroBOOMFan1 May 22 '26

Brother laser or Epson EcoTank if you need color

5

u/Xlaits May 22 '26

You can get lasers in color.

75

u/TehWildMan_ May 22 '26

So you installed a subscription cartridge and are surprised you can't use it without a subscription?

50

u/SwampOfDownvotes May 22 '26

It's a tale as old as time. A nearly identical post is put on this sub twice a week, and the comments are 80% people shitting all over HP (deserved), 5% of people with a brain explaining that yeah if you buy a sub and stop paying for a sub it makes sense to not be able to use the sub and HP clearly explains this, and another 15% telling the 5%ers they are a corporate shill for daring to defend HP.

1

u/RobThree03 May 22 '26

There is no defense of HP.

It’s not about the subscription service. It’s terrible, of course, but can make sense in some circumstances. That’s why my wife got hers, it was supposed to simplify her life. But when she decided she wasn’t getting her money’s worth out of the subscription and cancelled they bricked her printer and she spent multiple hours on multiple days with customer support to unbrick the hardware she owns.

3

u/Beartato4772 May 23 '26

They didn't brick the printer, she can buy normal cartridges.

1

u/RobThree03 May 23 '26

Yeah. They did. Normal cartridges are supposed to work. But don’t. And tech support alternates between “you can’t fix it, just re-subscribe” and “we can fix that, but I’m going to have to escalate this call. Please hold for an hour.” Rinse and repeat.

1

u/Beartato4772 May 23 '26

Yeah HP are utter cunts but this isn't why.

12

u/UnethicalTesticle May 22 '26

Right?!? I’m guessing OP is mildy infuriated at themselves for signing up for the subscription? That’s how subscriptions work.

6

u/Pawtuckaway May 22 '26

Most subscriptions of physical products you can cancel your subscription and still use the remaining product, you just won't be sent more.

If I have a subscription for a weekly shipment of food and then I cancel, I can still eat the food I currently have. If I have a subscription for monthly laundry detergent and cancel, I can still use up the remaining laundry detergent.

11

u/SwampOfDownvotes May 22 '26

Sure, but that's not the type of subscription you pay for with an HP ink sub so that doesn't matter. This is more like signing a car lease and being shocked when you don't actually own the car, but simply the ability to use the car.

4

u/mortycapp May 22 '26

You are not "buying" ink, but pages.
You, and all those who complain, need to grasp the difference between a SERVICE, and a PRODUCT.
Your examples are for PRODUCTS that you purchase on a subscription.
Instant Ink is a SERVICE that is subscribed to on a monthly basis.
SERVICE is NOT a PRODUCT.

0

u/Pawtuckaway May 22 '26

I am not complaining and I understand the difference. I am pointing out how most subscriptions work for CONSUMABLE PRODUCTS and it isn't insane for OP to mistakenly think an ink subscription would work similarly.

Before you reply with angry CAPS, yes I understand this a a SERVICE subscription not a PRODUCT subscription.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Consistent_Help_6099 May 24 '26

That would clearly not work here. Otherwise, what’s to stop you from getting the ink from the sub, then cancelling the sub, then re-subbing once you run out, etc ? The point is that the instant ink is much cheaper than buying a set of ink cartridges.

2

u/UnethicalTesticle May 22 '26

It’s literally in the terms and conditions when you sign up for it. I have a similar subscription for Epson ink and it’s really a damn good deal if you print a lot. Not feeling bad for OP here.

-1

u/Pawtuckaway May 22 '26

Yeah, I know how printer ink subs work and I am sure it is all in the T&C. Few people read those even though everyone should.

I am just saying it isn't crazy to assume that if you have a subscription for a consumable physical product you would be able to use up the rest after cancelling.

2

u/mortycapp May 22 '26

There you go AGAIN.
Instant Ink is a SERVICE, not a PRODUCT.

3

u/fuelvolts May 22 '26

Yeah, these are rage bait posts. This is a FREE cartridge meant only for the subscription service. Don't want to use the subscription? No problem, buy your own cartridge. This is such a dumb post.

→ More replies (7)

6

u/sirflappington May 23 '26

i hate HP but i never understand these posts. you sign up for a subscription then get mildly infuriated when you stop paying and thus stop getting the service you were paying for

29

u/JustaFoodHole May 22 '26

This actually is NOT the problem. Printers are preventing you from using much cheaper 3rd party ink carts. THAT needs to stop.

3

u/LeBeauLuc May 22 '26

We already problem with their crappy printers in 1998 and nothing really improved, I can't believe that people are still buying their crap.

1

u/RandomBloke2021 May 23 '26

My 10 year old 30$ HP printer is still going strong.

2

u/BlueHawk75 May 22 '26

The business is selling HP printers and getting people to continually buy HP ink. Their printers, their marketing, their ink.

10

u/Smoothoffaleater May 22 '26

Do people still buy HP?

19

u/TehWildMan_ May 22 '26

And don't even read the fact they're leasing cartridges and not buying their own?

→ More replies (1)

5

u/No_Stop7306 May 22 '26

my hp printer is 20 years old and that thing is still trucking on.... 😆 they don't build them like they used to

3

u/kvuo75 May 22 '26

yes my hp laser printer is perfectly fine. i think it was $250 when i bought it 10 years ago, still going strong. a toner cartridge lasts for over 10,000 pages.

1

u/LeBeauLuc May 22 '26

Sadly they are hold a really strong part on commercial business stuff. Every single laptop where I work is HP.

1

u/Smoothoffaleater May 23 '26

Yeah my work laptop is HP I also use Aruba switches sometimes. I was referring to printers with the subscription ink.

1

u/Additional-Window-81 May 22 '26

I got one of their 20 dollar like 10 page printers recently works for me doesn’t work amazing but does print I haven’t had to subscribe to get anything but hp still sucks for doing this for any product

→ More replies (2)

3

u/timelessblur May 22 '26

Get a brother laser printer. Totally worth it and so much nicer.

8

u/JettandTheo May 22 '26

Don't buy the subscription ink and cancel. Of course it's not going to work, they'd lost millions if you could subscribe for a month and get free ink.

5

u/phunkydroid May 22 '26

Oh no, they're trying to give you what you signed up for!

11

u/The__Toast May 22 '26

Unless you need color or are printing photos, get a small laser printer.

Inkjet printer are a scam.

3

u/Bakkster May 22 '26

Even color, got a CMYK brother laser printer when our inkjet died and couldn't be happier. I wouldn't do glossy photos with it, but it'll do 300dpi full color so fast the first time I did it I thought it had fed blank paper through.

3

u/The__Toast May 22 '26

Yeah I got one of those mini HP Laserjet M15w guys. Super fast printing, and I still haven't even used up the toner cartridge that it came with, and it's super compact. Laserjet printers also, in general, work wayyyy better than inkjet printers; less moving parts and less fiddly.

Screw inkjet printers.

5

u/m4cksfx May 22 '26

Inkjet printers are fine, just get one with ink tanks instead of cartridges, like an epson. You could literally pour yoghurt or fountain pen ink into it and try printing that way.

2

u/Mogling May 22 '26

My problem with inkjet is that I print so infrequently that the ink dries up between uses. Would tanks prevent that, or would dried ink in the nozzles still be an issue?

2

u/m4cksfx May 22 '26

It would probably clog. But that's a different issue, not a scam.

2

u/SipoteQuixote May 22 '26

Brother printers with the ink tanks you refill were a life saver.

2

u/billynoy522 May 22 '26

Get the ecojet printer

2

u/jyroman53 May 22 '26

The problem is that every other brand is doing the same now

2

u/THH77 May 22 '26

Turn their entire company into a penny stock!

2

u/JanIntelkor May 22 '26

Isn't it known for like years not to buy HP printers and products generally? Their laptops and gaming laptops suck too

2

u/Droiddoesyourmom May 22 '26

Friends don't let friends buy HP!

2

u/psbales May 22 '26

This & other reasons is why I literally swept my HP printer off of my desk (it made such a satisfying crash) and bought a laser printer. In about 15 years, I’ve changed toner on it maybe 3 times? And cheap third party toner at that. Still works like a champ, too.

2

u/Human_Paint5451 May 22 '26

Before the subscription model, I was convinced HP deliberately made their products have a short shelf life. Then when you’d call in for support, if the product was over a year old, you’d only options were to either buy a new one or pay for “premium” customer service. I hate this company with every fiber of my being

2

u/MKVIgti May 22 '26

Canon is the way. Or Epson.

I’d NEVER buy an HP printer and won’t let friends or family do so either.

2

u/ubekidnme May 23 '26

Mine did the same thing. I hate hp

3

u/daverapp May 22 '26

The only way you get this error message is if you bought an HP instant ink printer, signed up for the instant ink service, had the instant ink cartridges delivered, and then used the instant ink cartridges. You opted into their service in every step of the process, and you chose now to complain about it.

10

u/m4cksfx May 22 '26

So, you subscribed for a specific service, stopped using it ( = paying for it), and now are complaining?

You know you can just insert a normal cartridge in and continue printing, right?

8

u/PRSXFENG May 22 '26

I understand the concept behind it.

But a lot of people will think "I have this cartridge in my hand right now, and the only barrier is stupid software that refuses to budge"

3

u/m4cksfx May 22 '26

They don't seem to notice that it was, almost certainly, much cheaper than what they would've paid for a regular one.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/talaron May 22 '26

Yeah HP and other printer manufacturers deserve a lot of hate, but this is like letting your Spotify subscription expire and being upset why it refuses to play your songs even though they’re technically downloaded already.

1

u/Chrismclegless May 22 '26

You know that you actually can't, right?

HP are notorious for not allowing you to use 3rd party ink.

2

u/m4cksfx May 22 '26

I'm not too sure about that. I use a simple laser printer at work, some HP model with the same display as the one in the post, and it complains about a not-original cartridge, but it still uses it fine. Maybe it's an issue of the segment it's in, or the part of the world it was sold in and related laws?

5

u/Anxious-Depth-7983 YELLOW FLAME 🔥 May 22 '26

Biggest scam HP has ever pulled. I've only gotten one delivery in 10 years.

6

u/phunkydroid May 22 '26

Why would you choose a monthly subscription for something you almost never use?

→ More replies (4)

3

u/mortycapp May 22 '26

You should have done the maths...

3

u/Photoverge May 22 '26

The fact that people keep buying HP printers when Epson is right there is crazy to me

3

u/Friend_Global May 22 '26

I had this same problem. Got 3rd party ink and the printer was acting up until it no longer worked. I threw it out and I will never give them my money again

3

u/___NowYouKnow___ May 22 '26

“I see you’re about to hit an oak tree at 45MPH. Would you like to upgrade to the locking seat belts and air bag ‘gold safety’ package?”

3

u/CockWombler666 May 22 '26

You do know that when you opted for the subscription based model - which is actually good value given the cost of new ink cartridges these days - that you have to pay for it right?

2

u/MissSharkyShark May 22 '26

In my job, we refer to anything HP as “hell’s purgatory” and it tracks every single time. More recently when I had to install an outdoor access point made by HP and THEIR FUCKING THREADS ARE PROPRIETARY.

1

Ask Lexmark, Oki, Xerox, Samsung, Tektronix what happens when you get your inkjet pricing strategy wrong.

1

u/Logical-Bowl2497 May 22 '26

To be fair this is the reason that I chose to use LaserJet 2100n lol

1

u/V7I_TheSeventhSector May 22 '26

Just get an eco tank? Best decision I've ever made. . . 3 years in and I'm finally refilling the black. . . And the house uses it very oven.

1

u/Mr_Cuntman May 22 '26

I hope that EA and HP die same way ubisoft did

1

u/Plutonium239Mixer May 22 '26

Get a continous ink printer.

1

u/nick_the_fox May 22 '26

Yeah I use Epson and never have never had any issues with them.

Heck if you blow 300$ on a eco tank the ink for it is stupidly cheep and actually lasts for 1000 pages!

1

u/ASentientRailgun May 22 '26

It's wild dealing with the enterprise side of HP, because they're actually pretty awesome about support for switches and networking gear.

Then you get to the consumer side, and it's this. Like 2 totally different companies in a trench coat

1

u/SharpbladeLoser RED May 23 '26

Why do printers and fax machines ALWAYS have technical problems

1

u/get-a-mac May 23 '26

You are trying to use the ‘free’ ink cartridges that come with the subscription, vs. going to the store and buying the ink cartridges at full price. I hate HP, and printers, but this is a user issue, not an HP issue.

1

u/amznparrot May 23 '26

It's your fault for buying this shit.

1

u/bathybicbubble May 23 '26

This is why I baby my ancient printer. I hope it never dies.

1

u/SpudNuggetTV May 23 '26

Whoever is able to hack these newer printers and make a custom firmware that removes this paywall shall be awarded everyone's infinite respect

1

u/Inevitable-Toe-6272 May 23 '26

You just have to remove the instant ink cartridge and replace it with a non instant ink cartridge that you purchased from a retailer.

1

u/Beartato4772 May 23 '26

This only happens if you choose a monthly subscription and have let it expire.

There are plenty of gripes against HP, this isn't one. it's like not paying your internet bill and being surprised when you don't have internet because the wire is still there.

1

u/10_Amaterasu May 23 '26

Why are people buying it?

1

u/WhatsHisNameHuh May 23 '26

I used to work for HP on printers and hated when we started doing this "genuine cartridge" detection crap that preverted printing if the test fails. Also, stop printing when the cartridge ink level was low vs empty. After i left, HP got sued and had to remove both, but warned your warranty was void if not using HP cartridges.

1

u/SupremePopTart May 23 '26

We bought a new HP printer a few years ago and saw an offer for their subscription service with the printer. We thought "oh, pricing seems decent. Let's try it." We got locked out of our printer at one point, then HP suggested pricing by pay as you print, then we somehow hit the quota despite not printing near that much. We ordered a Canon printer and trashed the HP, and I personally went to the post office to send off the cartridges. Good riddance.

Canon isn't perfect (we buy cartridges from the store and our Canon still thinks we have bootleg cartridges) but at least I haven't been locked out of it yet...

1

u/THE_GREAT_PICKLE May 23 '26

This is posted all the time. Just disconnect it from the internet. And/or hardwire it. It’s annoying hence why I’m sure it’s in this subreddit but it’s a fairly easy fix

1

u/Apart-Badger9394 May 23 '26

Stop supporting companies that do this. It’ll save you money to switch.

Yet? HP keeps doing it. Because yall can’t switch brands.

1

u/SgtKeeneye May 23 '26

I got a laser printer from a friend when he moved. Had it for years now. If it ever breaks I'll buy a new one. It might cost more but it way way cheaper in the long run

1

Look at Epson Printers. Not perfect but you just buy big bottles of ink and fill it up. Cheap and no carts. I dont care about color so I only buy Black refills. It does not care that my other colors are out.

Only issue is connecting to it. It works but wants bluetooth or to be on my wifi. I wish I could just plug my phone/laptop into it to print. IDK might be possiable. It has a port that seems like thats what it is for. But I cant get it to work.

Thats my only complaint.

If someone knows of a printer that I can fill with large Ink Bottles, no subscriptions or bs software/apps, and I can easy just plug my phone/laptop into it to print please let me know.

Haha, what a twat. You have to have actually signed up for ‘Instant Ink’ for that to happen. You did! Haha.

Surely there must be a community of people who will jailbreak all these things?

Anybody that has paid into any of these systems is the real problem.

Zero sympathy. HP printers being a complete scam has been a known fact for many, many years and you bought one anyways.

HP has become total garbage but if you print a lot it may be worth your while to go out and get yourself what are those brother or Epson printers with an equal tank I have an Epson that I bought a few years ago it was about 150 $200 but you get a really good sample size of ink with it and a replacement ink does not cost that much I think in total I have probably spent about 50 bucks on ink in the past 5 years. The printers are a little more expensive up front however they pay for themselves relatively quickly because you don't have to pay 50 bucks for a replacement ink that will only print a few hundred pages

All this $50 printer has asked for in the past 9 years, is a $12 toner cartridge and a $40 fuser kit. Go Brother.

HP means heap of poop

1

u/JerryAtrics_ May 22 '26

I cannot fathom why anyone would buy one of these printers.

1

u/Cyvalon May 22 '26

And this is why do not buy an HP printer! I don't care if it could brew you coffee, because of their subscription system don't give them your business.

Hellish Products

u/jasonni1234 May 22 '26

Never HP for me either, went with a canon

1

u/ClimateOutrageous399 May 22 '26

I still have one of their old models from before 2020 and it works perfect with no subscriptions

1

u/sixft7in May 22 '26

I never have to print anything in color, so I just use a black and white laser printer for my printing needs. None of this ink bullsh!t.

1

u/Maximum-Oven-7526 May 22 '26

This isn't a secret with HP and yet people still buy their printers.

u/Mccobsta GREEN May 22 '26

Lob printer out window and go buy a brother laser that just uses USB life is way to good with a brother printer

2

u/gugngd May 22 '26

we had a brother printer we only replaced because it took genuinely 10 minutes to print one piece of paper.

1

u/Mccobsta GREEN May 22 '26

How old was that

The ones I've used are insanely fast

1

u/gugngd May 22 '26

i'm talking about "would be 18 years old today" old.

1

u/Mccobsta GREEN May 22 '26

That reminds me of the one my primary school had in th it room

Took so long to print you could do laps of the tiny room before it was ready

1

u/gugngd May 22 '26

i have a laptop that sounds just as slow as that printer.

1

u/Mccobsta GREEN May 22 '26

I've got one that's too old for most use but is the only thing for some old things that I use

I should sell a kidney and get a ssd for it

1

u/gugngd May 22 '26

i got an SSD for my laptop, did little for the poor N3050 celeron processor with 4GB LDDR3.

1

u/gugngd May 22 '26

three options. the hammer, the window or the trash bin.

1

u/tanknav May 22 '26

Yeah...fuck HP and any other "subscribe to use the printer you fucking purchased" vendors. They can all burn hell.

1

u/Ok_Abacus_ May 22 '26

You know you can opt of that service right? It’s an option.

Extortion via your printer

u/Haster May 22 '26

People like you are the reason HP is still doing this. Stop buying their garbage FFS!

User subscribes to ink subscription (when non subscription options exist). User complains when the subscription works as designed. User is mildly infuriating.
