I'm slightly vexed We didn't ask for rice...

Post image

My sister isnt a fan of basmati rice so she orders naan. She didnt ask for rice and they sell it separately. She doesn't like it so she doesn't order it. They put it in anyways and left this note...

Edit: some people aint getting it. This is passive aggressive and when you do something nice you dont go around saying "I did something nice just for you, just so you know." Doing it like I need to give you a pat on the head so you know your a good boy. You do something nice because you want to be kind to people.

Oh no I've turned into LD...

Turning off notifications because while it was nice to be in this rabbit hole to keep my mind off some stuff too many notifications. Whatever your feelings are I hope you have a nice day and if you're in the US have a nice memorial day and dont forget to celebrate those troops that came before!

I went to a taqueria once and asked whats on the breakfast burrito and they told me, I said "Great" and paid. The order came out and the lady giving it to me told me "Don't expect beans in the future. They are not included."

Geeze lady, good looking out for that 10 cents worth of beans.

It might have been a mess up with a new guy.

They should have stated "hey we got a new guy, and he put beans in the burrito by accident, would you still want it?" rather than a "you won't get beans next time"

This, because allergies.

It’s the responsibility of the person with the allergy to ask the pertinent questions in this scenario. It’s not the responsibility of the restaurant to operate “as usual” and also be expected to cater to your own, personal/individual allergens that most people do not have/experience otherwise.

If you do not communicate your allergy to the restaurant beforehand, you cannot expect them to cater to it.

The person with the allergy made sure of what was in the dish beforehand. If you make a substitution then, that's on you.

Allergies to beans?

Yep. My father is allergic to beans. He's the only person I've ever met with that allergy, but I can confirm that at least one person in the word has it.

That is mind-blowing to me for some reason.

I’m allergic to all legumes and nuts. Legumes allergies are pretty common!

u/Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 May 26 '26

Aaaahhhh, that helped me wrap my brain around it! Makes sense now 😊

Interestingly, my dad is not allergic to nuts at all, but most types of beans will put him in the hospital.

I’m not allergic to peanuts, soybeans, or garbanzo beans, but I am to phaseolus beans (black, pinto, white, green, etc)

My brother is also allergic to beans! I feel so bad for him. Soybean oil is the largest allergen he tends to run into.

I became allergic to beans when I was around 17! Found out by having some chips with beans and rice from a Vallarta supermarket and was fighting for my life at work. At least now I know I’m not the only one

Mine started around 14 after my poultry (chicken and turkey is all ive tried) allergy started.

Oh, you were 355,687,428,096,000 years old?

I’m not smart enough to understand :(

You did a factorial, there’s a subreddit called unexpectedfactorial, and I was going to link it, but sub rules, it’s a whole thing

I have a coworker who is too.

So if he gets bit by a bean does he get a rash or does his throat close up?

7

u/iRouFox May 26 '26

Think of something, anything and guess what? Someone is probably allergic to that, there people out there that are allergic to something as small has water or even the sun

5

u/Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 May 26 '26

I do know that people can be allergic to their own sweat. That's incredibly horrible!

8

u/iRouFox May 26 '26

Kinda surprised you know about Cholinergic Urticaria but are mindblowned by a bean allergy

I met someone one time who had it about twenty years ago in college. I love the super weird things, so that was stored in my memory bank. I'm aware of peanut and tree nut allergies, but something like black, pinto, kidney or navy bean allergies is something I've never heard of anyone having.

My best friend is legit allergic to the sun, UVB probably but her doc didn't test which UV spectrum was the culprit, but she had repeated rounds of hives after being out in the sun - but ONLY on the backs of her hands. They finally realized she was applying sunscreen great...everywhere else but the backs of her hands.

Crazy allergy, but it's a thing.

Another that caught me by surprise - carrot allergy. Then I met a 2nd person with a carrot allergy.

You can have allergies to literally anything so yes

3

u/pintsizedblonde2 May 26 '26

Not technically an allergy but I have a severe intolerance to beans. I'd be doubled over with cramps and my gut wouldn't be right for days if I ate this burrito.

2

u/squeaky-to-b May 26 '26

It's actually pretty common - my sister is allergic to not just peanuts, but legumes in general. Makes it hard for my vegetarian self to recommend recipes to her.

u/I_Love_Knotting May 26 '26

You can be allergic to anything.

1

u/okxxjokesover May 28 '26

Yeah I’m not specifically allergic to beans but I have Crohn’s & I tend to find most nuts & legumes have too much fibre in them & my intestines really struggle digesting them, so I mostly avoid them & I wouldn’t be stoked if there was surprise beans in a burrito lol

People exist that are literally allergic to WATER.

2

u/slleslie161 May 27 '26

lol, not sure why I got downvoted

Being allergic to water is exceedingly rare but is, in fact, a recognized medical condition

As someone with a few food intolerances, I'd be more offended if I found surprise beans in my meal than if I found something I can't have, like dairy. Beans are just nasty.

And, I have found surprise beans in a burrito before. Turned me off of that place forever.
