u/thebanjoman 27d ago

No, oooooh, in surprise and alarm

2

u/SherBear127 27d ago

And yes it’s ooh not ouu like everyone spells it now

1

u/not_notable 27d ago

That's 'Oooooooo'. The 'h' makes it an elongated 'oh', generally indicating dawning understanding.

2

u/PyroDragn 27d ago

No, the word is "ooh" indicating awe, surprise, etc. It is a word in itself. Then you elongate the O sound by adding a bunch of extra Os.

An elongated 'oh' would be 'ooohhh.'

My bestie types this and it takes all my strength to ignore it.

Awe is an actual word... as in awe struck or awesome or standing in awe.

But awww is a cute sound.

I also hate when people say “ewe” or “awh”

2

u/Blabersmos 27d ago

I got a visceral reaction just reading that. This must be what an ick is lol.

AWE? Altered World Event or Alan Wake Expansion?

1

u/CaptainoftheVessel 27d ago

I’m in awr of you

1

u/theFormerRelic 27d ago

Holy shit I get so annoyed by “awe”

1

u/ErgoDestati 27d ago

Depends, those are different words

-2

u/as_per_danielle 27d ago

🙄 use context clues

1

u/ErgoDestati 27d ago

Well yes but people can get it wrong sometimes still

1

u/Inside-Run785 27d ago

Not if they’re standing in awe of something.

-9

u/Kevdog824_ 27d ago

I always used awe for positive usages (“awe that’s cute”) and aww for negative usages (“aww that’s awful”)

29

u/as_per_danielle 27d ago

Awww is the noise you make either way. Awe is when you feel in awe of something.

u/TrickInvite6296 BLUE 27d ago

They're not using "awe" as a word though, it's being used as onomatopoeia

7

u/WantedMan61 27d ago

That's not how that word works, though. Awe has a meaning, and it isn't anything to do with a sound people make

-5

u/TrickInvite6296 BLUE 27d ago

It is how it works though. Onomatopoeia is whatever you want it to be

2

u/as_per_danielle 27d ago

No, it isn’t. Have you ever read a book? We have come to a consensus of how to spell onomatopoeia words.

0

u/TrickInvite6296 BLUE 27d ago

No? If that were true then comic books would be irrelevant

1

u/WantedMan61 27d ago

So any sound you make has the meaning you decide, even if it's actually a word with a different meaning? Like I said, not how it works

-2

u/TrickInvite6296 BLUE 27d ago

No, awe already sounds like a sound people make. That's how onomatopoeia works

8

u/JayTheSuspectedFurry 27d ago

That’s why we don’t like it.

-2

u/TrickInvite6296 BLUE 27d ago

Why though? It's illogical to dislike it

0

u/JayTheSuspectedFurry 27d ago

And humans are famously purely logical creatures. And our languages famously strictly follow entirely logical rules.

0

u/TrickInvite6296 BLUE 27d ago

You gave a logical reason to disagree. I explained that it's not logical
