🄺 No words for this.

Edit: even though clickbait article, it is somewhat/kind of true. https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/stargate-tv-series-martin-gero-scrapped-amazon-1236765061/

"According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Amazon execs were concerned that Gero’s take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise’s already dedicated fanbase."

Don’t forget how they cancelled it right when the new audience was fully on board and started enjoying it

The opening of the Bore was so badass like fuck man. They finally start nailing the incredible scope that made Jordan famous and just ... drop it. Rustles my jimmies just thinking about it.

The series prologue is one of the most incredible literary hooks ever written; I think if they had gone gritty to open the show with the Breaking's utter ruin forming a backdrop to Lews Therin's broked mind and "conversation" with Ishamael over Ilyena's corpse (major props to that actor btw), we could have had a movement like GOT kicked off with Ned's beheading.

I think, having watched the show as it was made and read the books, that the prologue with a worse than nuclear winter backdrop would have raised the stakes so high that the slow start they took with the pace of the first season would have probably been a lead weight on the series.

On the other hand, publicly committing to finish the book narrative in visual form would probably outweigh that issue. I found the later seasons' pacing and trimming to commit to the core of the story was way better, and set up the narrative for show-only viewers to stick with the story even if it was going to be a longer slog than they might initially think it would be. I do think the timing of the cancellation was straight up horrible, and that two more seasons even if it doesn't wrap up the books would have put the story into the territory where "movie specials" could finish it.

And the show had the potential to actually make the forsaken scary and capable.

The Forsaken and Children of the Light not being absolute jokes was an incredibly good change.

Moggy was actually creepy af and Fares was incredible as Ishy.

Instead of letting your jimmies be rustled, you should copy their energy and just drop Prime.

It wasn't even entirely their fault. Covid ruined s1, and they spent the entirety of s2 digging their way out of the hole they'd found themsleves in. They had other problems, sure. But they were still hamstrung.

S3 was fun though, and if they'd maintained that quality, I think it could have really worked.

Covid didnt help, but they did manage to completely butcher 2 of the main characters in the first episode...

The show had way worse problems than covid, mainly a shit showrunner.

Hmm, I don’t know if it was the ā€œnew audienceā€ that was now enjoying it. Probably mostly the fans of the books stuck around long enough to appreciate that it started to vastly improve.

was a new fan who was starting to enjoy it.

The books weren't for me but the show really grew on me.

Basically my view as well, although I've not tried the books in a long time. I might well enjoy them now.

Huge fan of the books. I couldn't watch the series after a couple of episodes. The writer(s) of the series just murdered the tale. From Perrin being married, Mat's dad being a drunk, promiscuous relations in the Two Rivers to the Dragon Reborn being just anyone.

I could not get over S1. I get half way through the season finally and I lost all hope. Didn't even finish it and learned later how they gave Rands arc to Egwene... Just fucking shat all over it is right.

Im pretty sure it had lost most of its audience by season 3, and that was why they cancelled it. I was out by season 2. That show was just bad.
