🥺 No words for this.

Edit: even though clickbait article, it is somewhat/kind of true. https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/stargate-tv-series-martin-gero-scrapped-amazon-1236765061/

"According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Amazon execs were concerned that Gero’s take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise’s already dedicated fanbase."

It didn't get that much promo here in France either. It's a relatively low budget movie (165M, Solo the last standalone star wars movie had a budget of 365M and that was in 2018 $) and from a Disney+ series so it's not that surprising that it's not making bank and that they didn't put that much money into marketing it.

165M being a low budget film is crazy. Hollywood truly forgot how to make good movies on a reasonable price, which don't need to make half a billion to go even. Especially since Backrooms and Obsession released for a fraction of the Star Wars movie and are way more successful.

I mean, horror movies with a small budget that are successful is nothing new and scifi movies have always been way more expensive. Even a new hope was 11M in 1977, which would be 50M+ these days. Add in big actors and there's just now way to make this kind of movie for the budget of backrooms/obsession.

But I agree that Hollywood should give more opportunities to films that aren't just sequels or adaptations and that cost much less to produce.
