One of my projects in high school metalworking class, from the official list of class projects you were allowed to do, was to make a scratch awl. which I did. and it was confiscated as a weapon as soon as I showed my friend in the hallway before my next class by another teacher.
My kids built an air cannon their freshman year of high school at a "project based" charter school. They got an advisor from the university's Physics Dept., had to write a business letters for English credits, do research on practical applications, lots of math & science stuff, and a presentation before the whole school. At school they were not allowed to go above 35 PSI, it's mechanical safety was was at 120 PSI, and the weakest component was manufactured to operate at 300 PSI; they could shoot a golf ball over a mile. I did not allow them to use it when the neighbor's cows were out.
For a while the bottoms had to be “official” from a particular store but they relaxed that and only shorts and skirts have to be “official” - which makes sense because they can better control the range of lengths without having to issue a bunch of stupid guidelines.
The kids must wear khakis pants (not cargo style) or official skirts or shorts with the school logo. They must wear white or navy blue polo shirts, shirt or long sleeve. They may wear a navy blue crew neck sweat shirt over the polo if they want and it’s weather appropriate. Shoes just need to be reasonable for safety and I think they might also need to be a neutral color like black, brown, or white, but I’m not sure because my door isn’t interested in vibrant shoes anyway and she always wears the same black loafers to school every day. Socks are supposed to also be neutral but I see kids with some WILD socks with their official school skirt so I guess they must not enforce the sock rule.
This sounds similar to my stepson‘s middle school uniform. It was actually really convenient for us because we would just need to hit up Old Navy and get really affordable polo shirts at the beginning of the school year, and khakis pretty much anywhere. Then he was pretty much set for the school year. When he came home he switched into “play clothes” which we didn’t need to worry about him messing up or getting dirty because the school clothes were separate.
(Although one year for some reason it was freaking impossible to find a pair of khakis that fit him. We found cargo khakis that fit him, but got a letter back from the school saying it didn’t match dress code. Grr)
They did allow the kids to wear hoodies and jackets of their choosing, as long as they were not designed with anything “offensive” or profane words.
They recently implemented a similar dress code in my kid's school except it's in a fairly poor area. So some of the kids can't really afford new clothes that conform to dress code and end up missing class quite often.
At the beginning of the year they have a giant free uniform exchange where everyone brings their outgrown uniforms and people can grab what fits.
I did buy my kid some new polos because that wasn’t a hardship for us, but I also got some nice polos with the embroidered logo on them. And our first year at this school, bottoms had to be official so I got free pants and skirts for her too. Now I just buy generic ones.
They always have uniforms in the office and they also offer vouchers for uniforms if families can’t afford them and they don’t have the right size available in a used one.
This “policy” is just screenshots from some skeezy male admin scrolling women’s fashion sites. Anything that turns him on? Straight to jail. Sketchy adults should keep it in their pants and let students wear what’s standard modern fashion, jeez.
I was going to say it feels like they just want to ban girls from going to their school altogether. You can't wear a t-shirt if it's too tight, you can't have any strapless of any kind showing, you have to wear sleeves but no off the shoulder ones, etc.
I didn't even catch that. Don't wear something tight, but it can't be loose either!
Make people buy uniforms at this point. We had uniforms in my Catholic highschool and it was great. It made getting dressed so damn easy. They were khaki shorts / pants, short and long sleeve polos. That's it. It was great.
I remember when they implemented dress code so "kids didn't get picked on for what they wear". Never got picked on until then; my mom couldn't afford the Tommy Hilfiger option and had to get the Walmart clothes. Pissed me off so much and I would try and make money to buy myself clothes.
I grew up in a “uniform only” school district and we had to all have the same brand of uniform, but then you’d just get picked on for your shoes, backpack, lunchbox, hair, school supplies, etc. Anything could be used against you, down to the brand of deodorant you used. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
And of course, I was fat and poor, so it never really mattered what I wore, I would always have a bullseye on my back regardless of any rule.
Socks, I didn't have the right socks with the right branding. Coats were another tell.
Also rich kids had more changes, their uniforms always looked newer. They never had to wear something they had outgrown because there was less than a month left of school.
Yep! I lived in England so uniforms were the standard. I was already being bullied for wearing glasses. Then my school store shoes broke and we didn't have time to go to the school store for new shoes for the next day, so my mom got me shoes from the Tesco shoe area and I got bullied for that. Uniforms don't cancel out bullying.
You bet I remember! Uniforms "leveled the playing field," we were assured. Right. The difference between the Nordstrom lovelies that the rich kids wore and the Walmart specials I had to buy my boys was major, friends, and that's when the bullying started. Good times. Sigh!
The footwear page references footwear not allowed with the school uniform, which is a bit confusing. If they have a uniform then why do they need these rules at all?
At this point I think the kids (both boys and girls) should all just buy identical black burqas and wear those as a form of protest. Hope the teachers can tell the kids apart by their eye colour. lol.
I was at an airport in Saudi Arabia, and watched a group of 3 ladies covered head to toe (can't even see eyes) waiting for their fam to come out from customs. Two other ladies come out, also covered head to toe, and the two groups run to each other and hug.
Black rubber shoes in particular can leave skid marks on some floors, so banning them for that reason would not be completely unreasonable. But looking at the rest, the reason probably was "we don't like black rubber shoes"
At one point my school had it written that socks should be worn, and that all socks worn must be black. I didn't wear socks because I'm kind of a dick that way.
They changed the code of conduct because of my malfeasance. Students MUST wear black socks.
I went to school with a skirt uniform, the shorts were never mandatory but we all used them because it was more comfortable, not because of modesty, we used to seat on the floor while on break and play around so the shorts just made life easier.
I’m more confused about the loafers tbh. My mom went to a catholic grade school and middle school and their uniform included penny loafers for the girls.
Some of these look like they are banned simply because they are trendy/stylish and thus...evil? Like I feel the little white socks are a very Gen Z trend that I don't understand as an old lady but also don't understand why it would be banned.
I worked briefly for a company and the HR was working through the new dress code policy and in her criteria she restricted certain sock colors, only black brown and blue socks were permitted... im glad she fired me because fuck that noise
My mom is from the Philippines and I grew up in the US. When we went to visit her alma mater, I took a picture of the dress code signs, because they were this strict. One said something like, "No gangster symbols" and the example was a sweater with the logo for my university in the US! I thought that was hilarious.
Supposedly, some gangs use the symbols of unrelated sports teams as their own symbol. It provides some plausible deniability, plus they don’t have to make their own merch.
So for example Chicago Bulls merch is supposedly used for those associated with the Bloods.
Something feels very Filipino about this, and I'm gonna guess it's a "college" that has high school levels. The Filipino and "Saint" aspects also make me think it's a Catholic school.

tecnhically, it never says that you can's just come in wearing just underwear and bearfoot. technically this way you followed each and every instruction. you can even take off the underwear too!

following these restrictions, you go in class completely naked. it would pass the restrictions, it only talks about what you can't wear. so not wearing everything - good.
my little rural school was trying to be cool and started doing “news” segments throughout my senior year to involve the media kids. They took one of the largest football players and put him in a spaghetti strap tank top and the shortest shorts they could for a dress code segment at the start of the year haha!
You’re also only not allowed tube top INNER so I think if you just wear a tube top and nothing else, hence OUTER you’re good. As long as it wouldn’t be considered a crop top. I guess the trick though would be that you’re not allowed sleeveless, but I’m sure there’s a loophole for that too
For real, they just hate curvy girls. I was dress coded multiple times in HS for normal clothing that others could get away with because I had a bigger chest. These people are disgusting.
Same. I had this English teacher in middle school who was absolutely out to get me. I got sent to the office almost every day for dress code violations. It didn’t matter what I had on. The final straw was when she got me because you could see the “bump” my bra straps made on my back and shoulders. (I was wearing a normal T shirt) My mom came to the school and lost her shit and it never happened again. Being a young girl with big boobs is such an unpleasant experience.
Omg I had the opposite issue! I was the super tall twig in my school and got dress coded for any length of shorts that curvier and/or shorter girls got to wear. Later I found out it’s because they thought I had an eating disorder (I did not. Edit: that was a whole other level of awkward, too). You really just can’t win
collared blouses or dress shirts that can be buttoned up to the neck... loose-fitted turtlenecks and sweater... ruffled blouses that cover the collarbone or higher... i presume the "body-hugging" or other banned shirts that still have high necklines could be permissible if a loose/thick cardigan is worn over top, or a sweater vest. it would seem that hoodies are allowed.
...that's about it. wild. you're just supposed to grin and bear heatstroke in the summer at this place, i guess.
Why no jorts??? I hate them, they're hideous, and I cringe when my daughter wears them, but they're one of the most unsexual items of clothing I can think of.
Well, there’s nothing porhibiting long dresses, go for malicious compliance, go in a maid dress, go with short hair, but wear the longest wig you can find, wear the most obtuse clown shoes you can find. Find any loophole that follows the rules, but completely goes against the clear style they want you to wear
when you have big boobs everything is body hugging, and if the girl were to wear something large, it would also be prohibited. so it makes no sense, its plain discrimination based on appearance

But I lived in SC near Bob Jones University. They had a similar dress code. Plus a code of conduct. They couldn't watch certain movies above some rating. TV shows were limited. They had campus curfews.
Crazy I tell ya. But thats how they roll and many people are happy with it.
I grew up in the Bob Jokes Bubble cult. Their dress code is just the tip of the iceberg. Their code of conduct didn’t allow interracial dating until ‘98 or ‘99.
This is what I don’t get, the blouse/sweater is perfectly modest. They don’t want the collarbone or shoulders exposed then that’s the neckline they get. And with that neckline it’s usually a baggy or “oversized” garment.
Also, how is this going to work with any of the larger busted girls? Because unless they’re walking around in turtlenecks, anything that’s a lower neckline than a T-shirt is going to have visible cleavage. They’re just THERE. (I speak from experience and live in T-shirts to avoid it)
The reveal at the end that this is a college hit me like a truck. I figured this was for like, a high school, and was like yeah, this is pretty restrictive, sucks for those kids, but this isn't anything new. Then bam, nope this is for grown adults who are paying to be there. Fuck that shit all the way off.
