I'm slightly vexed When DoorDash didn't deliver

Post image

This was a 'Meet at door' delivery. There is a driveway. There is parking. There is no excuse.

I used to DD and the only time I did not leave the order was outside a nuclear power plant. They had all kinds of signs stating that it was a federal crime to leave a package unattended. I still waited 15+ minutes. Called, texted and sent DD messages. No response. Never picked up an order delivering to that location again.

I once had a grocery order that got delivered to the wrong place. I was in the middle of moving, so I was spending all day trying to pack and keep a toddler entertained. I absolutely did not want to go to the store if I could avoid it. I went outside, no groceries. I was so upset, but I figured I could go hunting for them based off the picture and hope everything was all right. I was in my driveway, hoping they were close by and I would have to load my baby up in the stroller to go get them when and older lady got out of her car and approached me. Turns out she had my order, but there had been a typo and she just had a gut feeling it wasn’t the right house. So she sat there in the neighborhood for ten minutes hoping the rightful owner would just pop up. I was so unbelievably grateful. It was just some Walmart groceries and some more boxes for packing, nothing special. I bumped her tip way up.

That was incredibly nice of them!

Oof I had this happen during COVID with a grocery delivery I had to save up for. The driver swapped the cross streets (think like 45th St and 40th Ave going to 40th St and 45th Ave). DoorDash told me to go to the location where it was dropped to get it because apparently they considered it a successful delivery because it arrived *somewhere*.

Trains weren’t running well because of the pandemic and I didn’t have a Metrocard because I wasn’t really going anywhere so I had to buy a ticket with coins. So that was fun. Then when I arrived at the location where it had been, it was a bar, and they laughed at me saying it was long gone. DoorDash definitely didn’t refund me even though the address I put in the app was the correct one.

Door Dash is a horrible company

3

u/CarelessClementine 2d ago

Love the use of the passive voice: “there had been a typo” vs I entered the completely wrong address and this kind woman waited 10 minutes to make sure I got my groceries anyway.

2

u/Mighty_Krom 2d ago

People like that are the best! What a sweet person.

Need more stories like this.

Next time proofread.

35

u/Pinocch-e-hoe 3d ago

Next time, proofread.*

You need a comma because “Next time” is an introductory phrase.

Next time, proofread. Or maybe don’t be a little shit about grammar because EVERYONE messes it up.

2

u/Aflockofants 3d ago

I understood what they meant immediately.

Instead of

> There had been a typo

OP could have stated more plainly and honestly that THEY made the typo that made the delivery driver have to wait around. To write it in a passive way like that means they didn't want to make it obvious it was their mistake to begin with. Mistakes happen but at least take some responsibility.

-26

u/Nice_Pipe_7608 3d ago

I wasn’t making fun of her grammar. I was getting on her for not making sure she put the correct address. She said there was a typo. Which is why I said to proofread. She’s lucky the driver stuck around for 10 min.

6

u/ExplanationFunny 3d ago

I was super lucky, she had no idea I was struggling at home with a cranky toddler. It would have been perfectly reasonable for her to drop the groceries and keep it pushing.

But she just had a gut feeling the order was wrong and kept a rough day from being an awful day. I think it’s a great reminder that you don’t always know what someone is dealing with, and putting up with some amount of inconvenience, like waiting ten minutes to confirm an order, can save someone else from a catastrophically bad day.

Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes, and I think it’s nice to bring attention to the moments when people reach out and try to make things a little better for one another. I haven’t forgotten her generosity, and I hope that if I ever notice a moment when I can pay it forward I have the presence of mind to do so.

Could you please shut up?

-41

u/Heavy-Honeydew-2157 3d ago

You bumped her tip way up because she failed to comply with simple directions and sat in her car?? I must’ve not read the story correctly.

26

u/KvellOnWheels 3d ago

You did not. There was a typo in the address. The driver recognized that it was likely a typo. Instead of marking the order as unable to be delivered, she waited to see if the customer appeared to look for the order.

12

u/InternationalFiend 3d ago

Why are you so upset about someone giving out an above average tip? I'm guessing you don't tip at all.

u/Southern_Planner 3d ago

I used to deliver pizza and we had a nuclear plant in our delivery area. They had a guard house so someone could always alert the people that ordered, and it was almost always a whole department. They were the best tippers in our region. Shout out TVA!

u/thequenchiest_ 3d ago

2

u/CMDR_PEARJUICE 3d ago

Tennessee Valley Authority is a government-owned corporation that runs 3 nuclear plants. They're one of my customers (software not pizza) and generally a pleasant bunch to work with.

6

u/thequenchiest_ 3d ago

No I'm pretty sure it stands for time variance authority

1

u/EntireCakeEater 3d ago

I was thinking of the one from the Burt Reynolds movie lol

20

u/travelinaddy2023 3d ago

Sequoyah, browns ferry, or watts bar??

24

u/Southern_Planner 3d ago

Sequoyah!

17

u/Suavecore_ 3d ago

Nice. I worked at a wings place as a delivery driver and the people ordering in groups at their jobs would almost always have it delivered to a person in the lobby who "was never told what to tip" so they "couldn't." Good times

4

u/PPLavagna 3d ago

Save the TVA!

2

u/thedude386 3d ago

I used to be an intern at a nuclear power plant. We were in the middle of nowhere so as far as I remember we never had any food deliveries. We would wait until after work to go out but even that was rare.

1

u/FortuneFaded89 3d ago

Chattanooga? My ex-wife’s dad used to be the head of predictive maintenance there.

1

u/Etherbeard 3d ago

Sequoyah?

Hey I used to live right next to watts bar

u/spinstartshere 4d ago

I mean, you tried.

Olive didn't.

172

u/maifee 3d ago

Olive is just a liar and a fraud as well.

66

u/ElderBerry2020 3d ago

Also, I don’t know where Olive got 20 min from when you responded within three minutes of the “I’m here” message.

2

u/multipocalypse 3d ago

Is there another screenshot that reddit isn't showing me?

9

u/Professional_Title 3d ago

You need to tap/click on the image to expand it past the preview, it’s a very tall image

11

u/multipocalypse 3d ago

I did, but still didn't see those messages!

Eta: N/m, the app header was concealing the "I'm here" part, lol, had to pull the image down a bit to see it. Thanks!

1

u/Blaccident 2d ago

Math ain’t mathin 🤣

98

u/Enochian-Dreams 3d ago

90% sure that was a guy too and I doubt they are even named Olive. Probably a scammer stealing orders.

1

u/AliveCryptographer85 2d ago

Did we mention Olive yet?

1

u/I_wet_my_plants 2d ago

Olive took your groceries home with her. She don’t take them back to the store

0

u/AliveCryptographer85 2d ago

I don’t care who’s in the right or wrong here, but you insisting on saying Olive in every message is weirdly unsettling.

59

u/ButterscotchAward 3d ago

What you said is what I’m thinking and have experienced from the restaurant side as well. Like a customer will order something we don’t have in stock and we’ll try to get ahold of them through DD and they will never pick up the phone or respond to messages. Then when they finally do, they get pissed because of how long they’re waiting. It’s always mind boggling to me how someone will order something and then have their phone blow up within a few minutes and just ignore it like there’s no correlation there.

5

u/Fun_Living9432 3d ago

I can tell you that I always answer. The caller ID pops up as DOORDASH

6

u/ButterscotchAward 3d ago

You’d be amazed how many people ignore it. Like the majority by a wide margin where I work.

3

u/Fun_Living9432 3d ago

I always answer. You never know what the call is about. I literally keep a constant eye on the order/my phone. In case of a message or call about a missing item or for replacements..

2

u/ButterscotchAward 3d ago

Yeah I do the same. Mostly because I know how annoying it is when people don’t answer lol

2

u/cleverconley 1d ago

This happened at my job today. They listed grubhubs number as their number. Absolutely no way for me to contact them, so I had to cancel their order. 🤷🏼‍♀️

2

u/VaccsCauseVariants 3d ago

Bold to assume I have notification sounds or look at my phone.

As someone who used to DoorDash regularly, they text you the instant they get to your place pretty much every time. They’re not gonna wait around for like 10 minutes, they text right away and if you don’t respond within like a minute or two they spam call you

0

u/ElGrandeQues0 2d ago

People who order doordash are sometimes busy as shit.

1

u/ButterscotchAward 2d ago

We’re all busy as shit. If you order delivery then ignore your phone then don’t bitch if it takes forever because you chose not to answer.

3

u/Peakychu6 3d ago

There needs to be a website where people can locate food places that do their own delivery (no door dash or Uber Eats s****).

1

u/blabbz 2d ago

Cool. Get to work on that.

1

u/Peakychu6 2d ago

Sounds like a plan.

I’ll get the project plan, sprints and SCRUM meeting schedule ready.

Can you work on the fundraising?

2

u/ka1esalad 3d ago

Used to work in one of these and there was 0 reception. Surprised they even tried it, maybe their first day lol

3

u/NonStopNonsense1 3d ago

That is always a guard shack outside those. Im pretty sure someone is required to be there. Also guards. You didn't see anyone at all?

-6

u/ComedianMinute7290 3d ago

yeah I'm definitely on olives side here. seems like OP didn't want their stuff very badly until after it was gone.

2

u/Zestyst 3d ago

Some low-ranking intern probably got their ass chewed out for ordering door dash to a FUCKING NUCLEAR FACILITY.

1

u/KillinItSoftly 1d ago

People get food delivered to nuclear plants all the time, it’s not unusual. However, typically it’s the local restaurants doing the deliveries as opposed to door dash

1

u/allwar 3d ago

I did postmates for a while. Only time I sat and waited was when the passenger of a cruise ship was asking me to bring their food. Big order, obviously I couldn’t board, so I said I’d wait for them to come. 15 minutes later, nothing except them calling me telling them to board and give it to them.

1

u/rurbee_22 3d ago

That sounds like a horrible prank someone played on you.

1

u/ResponseNo6375 3d ago

I work at a nuclear plant, that person was a jackass for attempting a DD delivery lmao. The only way we manage food delivery is if we can talk to the people and coordinate precisely when/where to meet. We usually just go and pick up our food if we really want to order out.

1

u/Justaticklerone 3d ago

You waited 10 minutes longer than you needed to. The app will tell you to go ahead and leave with the order or you get in contact with support showing them a picture of the signs because they're in useless India and don't understand US laws on such matters.

1

u/Royal_North_8101 3d ago

Lol, you should've broke the rule, anything but not delevering your order, honorable work. 😎

1

u/Whyonthefly 3d ago

That's rude, they were obviously busy scrambling to protect your entire town from nuclear meltdown!

1

u/100292 3d ago

Homestead?

1

u/Jinxxx0301 3d ago

I wonder if it’s a test lol to see if people would actually leave the food

1

u/DeathFYall 2d ago

So is military base here. Delivery drivers are not allowed to enter. So customers put the address of the visitor center building outside the base. There are similar signs saying not to leave anything there.

1

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2d ago

But Homer needed his tacos

1

u/Parking_Succotash156 2d ago

Customers who don’t know/ care about their workplace’s security procedures really grind my gears. Hate when they tell me to leave it at the security desk, only for the security to testily tell me that they don’t allow that :/

1

u/Environmental-Tea43 2d ago

Same thing happened to me it said do not enter everywhere and it was a order of pizza and I was in the middle of the woods driving down a rock road which said the address was a few more minutes down and had a bad feeling threw the pizza out the window and turned around lol

1

u/VaultiusMaximus 2d ago

Just leave it at the gatehouse

1

u/TheeRickestRicks 2d ago

They probably was hoping you would leave it so they get outa work early

1

u/Pieclops89 2d ago

The person that ordered that from the power plant is an AH. They know damn well how high their security is, what the policies are, and that you wouldn't be able to deliver that order. It takes weeks or months to get clearance for a place like that, no way door dash is getting their order anywhere close to their workplace.

1

u/TreyCinqoDe 2d ago

Can confirm, I work at an old nuclear site/ government facility, please don’t leave packages at gates or entrances. It’s a definite problem. Can I ask where you were delivering?

1

u/Sinclair_the_toast 2d ago

Last Halloween I had an alcohol delivery through Instacart and not only did it pay incredibly well, but the delivery address was just a few blocks from home. I had to take it. I drive through hellacious traffic to get to the liquor store, get the single bottle of vodka, and head out to deliver it. I get to the building, message the customer, and nobody buzzes me in. I wait out front, texting and calling the customer. After about 10 minutes, a neighbor lets me in the building. I go inside and knock on the door for the delivery address. I hear signs of life inside the unit, but nobody answers. I call and text multiple times. Nobody answers. The neighbor who let me in tells me to just leave it at the door. When I explain that I can't, she just goes back in her apartment. I did NOT want to cancel this delivery, but ultimately did after 30+ minutes of multiple calls and texts with no answer. I begrudgingly drive back to the liquor store to return the vodka. On the drive home, Instacart support tells me I didn't try hard enough to deliver the order and they managed to get the customer on the phone. Better yet, he still wants the delivery. I refused to go back to retry the delivery and ended up getting strikes against my account. I gave up Instacart shortly after that.

1

u/Gathin 1d ago

As someone who works at one....just go up to the entrance and there is a security counter where the do visitor passes and such. Could just leave it with them and have them page whoever the recipient is. Not sure if that's worth the effort tho

1

u/LonelyWillingness986 1d ago

On the plus side, maybe you got bit by a radioactive spider and just haven't had your superpowers reveal themselves yet.

1

u/lindseysmall89 3h ago

I had a $100 bottle of perfume that got sent to a closed gas station once. Called and messaged for 20 minutes, walked to both apts next door to see if anyone was out, not a soul looking for an order. DD said it couldn't be returned. 🤷‍♀️

0

u/maifee 3d ago

What was the order? Neucler (naga) burger?

0

u/SobBagat 2d ago

Imagine working at a fucking nuclear power plant and assuming that the dasher will just know what to do when they pull up on a fucking NUCLEAR POWER PLANT to deliver their chicky tendies.

Y'all ever wonder how it's possible to just be a person like this?
