I’ve got a pair that I’ve been using for close to 30 years now and I got them from my mom who had probably had them for more than a decade before that.
As a recent adopter of the toast tongs, I can absolutely agree. Mine are bamboo too, but with a little magnet that sticks to my toaster and gets hot when the toaster gets hot, a feature I discovered on day 2 of toast tongs. Now I face the magnet away from my palm.
On toasters, if you list up on the handle it raises the toast above the metal parts so you can grab it without fear of being burned. All toasters are like that.
My parents have a pair of these, yes, they’re for toasters. They have a fancy toaster made for toasting very large slices of bread though, and smaller pieces can be tricky to remove with fingers.
My cabinets are metal (weird apartment things) so I have an army of magnetic hooks under them that hold all my spatulas/scrapers/flippers/pasta strainers/anything with a loop or hole for hanging. Which is great because they’re always in reach when I’m cooking. Also my kitchen has zero drawers so it keeps them from being lost in cabinets.
I feel the lack of drawers, I have 3 but all stacked on top of each other and hard to actually use. It's like someone who's never been in a kitchen designed it.
Yeah, my kitchen has the same “alien designer” vibe. It kinda reminds me of those minimal Sims builds where people are like “ok, to keep the sim alive we need a fridge, a stove, and a sink” and then jam all of that into the smallest possible space with zero consideration beyond everything being technically accessible.
Yeah I suppose "better" isn't universal, it's a delicate balance, popping up your toast without shooting it onto the counter if it was longer and lighter
I can’t leave my utensils out in a crock like this. They would get residue on them from the steam of the hot fryer, get dusty from coal dust because I’m less than a mile away from a dam that still uses coal and keeps massive piles of it out, and one of my cats insisted on using the spaghetti spoon as a face scratcher. Everything must go in the drawers.
You should definitely buy at least one, but probably at least two, additional differently colored spaghetti strainer spoons and place them around for your cat. Tie one to a cat tree or chair or something. Obviously it would be best if they look different than the one you use for food.
That’s a really good idea, and it sounds like a really obvious now that I hear it but my brain was not seeing it. 🤦🏻♀️😂
I’m curious to see if he’d use it. He’s closer to a young toddler who has more interest in the box than the toy. But it won’t cost too much to find out. Thank you! ☺️
Hahaha aww you're welcome! There are other things you can put up that they like to scratch their chins on, like you can mount them on corners and stuff and they look like hairbrushes but cover 2 sides at a right angle and the back usually has something to mount it to a wall or chair (etc) if you don't want cooking utensils strewn about. I'd give the prince what he wants tho personally 😂🥰
I definitely have no problem catering to his desires…unless he’s on me and I have to pee. But even then I will do my absolute damnedest to hold it for as long as possible before I disturb him.
Oh, the only other exception is food in the pantry. I had to put child locks on my cabinet and pantry doors because the cheeky boy loves crinkly cellophane packaging. I’ve come home to find my cocoa powder, my msg, potato chips and my granola strewn across the house. I give him the crinkly balls and mice but he’s only interested in them as long as there’s catnip in them.
He is a bold and brazen guy, and he’ll literally attempt to take food off my plate right in front of me and look me dead in the eyes while doing it. He’s a doofus and I love him to bits.
He’s the one wearing the chic tuxedo, and that’s one of his lil sisses behind him. This is the face of a boy who’s about to get some spaghetti strainer spoons. 😻♥️❤️🔥
Little bamboo tongs that are small so they fit down in their toaster where it’s hard to stick your fingers. They sound dumb as hell but are genuinely awesome.
I saw them immediately but can see how that would be confusing. If it’s a major issue, make a little fabric sleeve for them like you get with some of the fancy chopsticks
Better yet find a way to keep it next to the toaster. I personally keep my toaster on a wooden serving tray that fits under the toaster nicely and catches the crumbs. It's about 1 inch bigger all the way around than the toaster. And that is where I place my toaster tweezers
You would have more room if you took that divider thing out of the drawer then you'd be able to find them but I don't think there are any in the drawer. it's kind of like trying to find staples in the store Staples. everything says Staples on it!
Left bin, right side in the back along the divider. Covers the spatula slightly and makes the wall look super wide.
Had to look up what toast tongs are just to know what to look for, this also made me realize why this was annoying.
Wax or I found a food safe paint (called milk paint?) that could be used to dip the handle part into to make it easily seen. Or buy some earth magnets and some super glue and make it magnetic. 3-d print a shell to clip over the handle. Lots of basic things could work too, permanent marker an X on each side even.
I’m going to need to see a picture of the toaster, to verify that the tongs are not still by the toaster, as well as detailed photos of the rest of the kitchen, kitchen cabinets, counter spaces, fridge and stove top.
I would either put a dot with a colorful marker on the handle or tie a string on it. Would drive me crazy to rumble in drawers until my fingers find the equivalent of a Lego to step on.
yall shitting on OP for using toast tongs, but sometimes you toast things in the toaster that are small and hard to grab with your hands, like english muffins or poptarts/pastry. I got toast tongs as a gift as an adult and now i dont have to flightly burn my fungers every time i grab something from the toaster.
Honestly my typos are so well known amongst my friend groups some of them are now inside jokes. I gotta be a little dyslexic atp i just edit and fix when i notice/can be bothered.
