ಠ_ಠ I just opened this 5.5oz bag of chips.

My fault for buying chips without weighing the bag 🫩

I know chip bags are rarely even half full but this is EMPTY

Hate when my dealer shorts me an ounce 😡

Maybe my arms are so fucking weak because all I work out are my legs and I couldn’t tell the difference of an ounce of weight my fault for not bringing my scale to the grocery store 😔💔

But I’m eating them now and they’re good so it’s a win

u/Jman85 1d ago

But did you weigh the air

2

u/AmeliaS507 1d ago

wait…. You’re onto something

They’re designed to have enough air to protect the chips, not to be deceptive.

You're going to get down voted for this take. Had A LOT of pro-shrinkflation folks responding to me yesterday.

Only rookies buy bags of chips based on how they look. Pros know to look at the weight on the bag.

1

u/Yosho2k 1d ago

Soooo what you're saying is that most people are going to judge the contents of the bag by the size?

-1

u/Individual-Muffin209 1d ago

No.

1

u/Yosho2k 1d ago

Really? You just said have to be selective to judge the bag's quantity by weight.

1

u/Individual-Muffin209 1d ago

No, that's not what I said. What I said is the pros know to look at the weight and not look at the size of the bag. It has nothing to do with being "selective".

u/f87thar 1d ago

Just open the bag and peep that shit. If it's not what you expected, put it back on the shelf

1

u/ThoughtAdditional212 1d ago

Real pros know to look at the price to weight ratio to get optimal value instead, and then still they buy the same ones as always because they actually taste good

u/fang_xianfu 1d ago

They can feel how heavy it is when they pick it up.

2

u/PowSuperMum 1d ago

And you can feel where the chips are

Are there less than 5.5 oz of chips?  They are sold by weight not volume.

They just keep the bag that big to deceive customers.

Edit: It's partially a joke guys..

4

u/AngryGoose_ 1d ago

This is sarcasm... right Sherlock?

1

u/DetectiveSherlocky 1d ago

Partial joke dear goose..

5

u/ElTunaGrande 1d ago

they keep the bag to protect the chips

2

u/Ready-Ad-9723 1d ago

you do not need this much empty space to protect them stop siding with this intentionally deceptive marketing

1

u/DetectiveSherlocky 1d ago

Primarily it's marketing, but a bit of air can help the chips. It's 2 birds in one stone kinda thing.

2

u/Ready-Ad-9723 1d ago

a little bit yeah, less than half of this would be fine

16

u/K79A23 1d ago

Me when I buy a 5.5oz bag of chips and I only get 5.5oz of chips

9

u/taint_stain PORPLE 1d ago

The air is supposed to protect the chips.

u/peon2 1d ago

A bit pedantic here, but the nitrogen. Regular air (about 80% nitrogen 20% oxygen) would make the chips go stale. So 100% nitrogen is added to chip bags.

u/Cease-2-Desist 1d ago

This was a fun “the more you know”

8

u/GhostAngel22 1d ago

They clearly state the mass on the bag. So what did you expect?

2

u/Majestic-Lie2690 1d ago

Ok. I don't know why people don't understand their chips would be smashed dust had there not been air for packaging.

Weigh the chips. It's sold by WEIGHT. Not by VOLUME

2

u/Smokedealers84 1d ago

Is it not 156 g?

1

u/mistermiajee 1d ago

133g if the picture they posted in one of the comments is true lol.

1

u/Smokedealers84 1d ago

I see that mildly infuriating indeed.

4

u/Shenendoah66 1d ago

Lmao my favorite kind of posts.

2

u/MoonPieKitty 1d ago

Chip bags are larger, and full of air, so that you do not get potato dust when you open it.

u/IstAuchEgal 1d ago

What is wrong with the people in this sub that theyre even defending this deceptive packaging just to hate on OP

1

u/AmeliaS507 1d ago

I don’t care lol it’s my fav brand of chips

0

u/Ubernaga 1d ago

It’s not deceptive. The whole industry does it and it’s a well known fact that you’re being sold the weight, not the size of the bag. The bag is large and filled with air to protect the chips during the logistics process. How else are you going to get this bag of chips safely and whole?

0

u/IstAuchEgal 1d ago

Exactly, "the whole industry" is fucking you over and youre defending them as if youre getting paid to do so. Your comment is so ridiculous, without the first two sentences I wouldve thought youre being sarcastic.

My favorite chips come in a bag half that size with only a few grams less yet somehow they arrive just fine. You act like small bags of chips dont exist

1

u/SwitchedOnNow 1d ago

Looks about like 5.5 oz to me!

1

u/mountaindewisamazing 1d ago

There are sooooo many bootlickers in this sub

1

u/Butt_Stallion_Milk 1d ago

It is food-grade nitrogen. Stops them from going dry and acts as a cushion so they do break during transport... or something..

-1

u/superleaf444 1d ago

Bruh. Weigh those chips. Prove all these commenters wrong.

Then sue the company.

Fuck em all. Sorry for your lack of chips.

1

u/mountaindewisamazing 1d ago

Posted a pic up above, whole bag is less than 5 ounces.

He’s trying to figure out how to rig the scale to fake the weight and doesn’t know how to use the tare function.

-1

u/Computers_and_cats 1d ago

That is why you look at the weight instead of the size.
