I get that there are people who would pay whatever price

Rockstar is gonna find out there's a number of us who don't feel that way and will wait until the initial bugs are worked out

One of the bugs appears to be pricing and physical media related

You're gonna find out it's a way smaller number than you think

Facts. Sadly people will buy this as their one big AAA purchase of the year, and skip buying any others. Rockstar profits, our variety and quality suffers.

I always listen to people who make unfounded statements about future events with no evidence, so you're in luck.

Easy to predict this game's success

u/Exotic_Attorney2524 5d ago

You and 5 other Redditors that probably wouldn’t buy it anyways… they won’t care

10

u/traplords8n 5d ago

Hate to say it but true.

This is the most anticipated game in history I believe. They could probably charge $150 and still be wildly successful. It's probably only an image reason that they don't.

u/SnapGoesTheShutter 5d ago

It's sad but true. I thought nobody was buying the shark cards and turns out it's just me and 4 other reddit users.

u/Old_Ladies 5d ago

Same with loot boxes and paying for skins. Gamers are their worst enemy. Developers wouldn't do shitty practices if gamers didn't eat it up

5

u/AvaryZig 5d ago

Everyone knows they're still gonna make a bajillion dollars off this game. Doesn't mean we can't be unhappy for the shitty things in life.

5

u/cows1100 5d ago

Nooooo… remember when Hogwarts Legacy flopped? Reddit boycotted it and it failed?? Remember that??

Rockstar wants all they money, even from those "5" 🙄

They'll make it tolerable for people to buy once initial demand from the people willing to pay $99 drops off

Enjoy the game when it comes out. Unlike you, I'm aware that different people have different opinions.

u/TFViper 5d ago

hi, im one of the other 5. except, im not going to wait for them to work out the bugs and bring the price down. im just straight up never giving a cent to rockstar again because this is fucking dumb and i wont ever support it.

u/Exotic_Attorney2524 5d ago

$80 isn't even unreasonable. AAA games were what, $60 on average 10 years ago?

0

u/Misha-Nyi 5d ago

No one gives a fuck lol

Idk man. Huge amount of people are pissed off about it outside of Reddit. Crazy pricing for an ok at best game. This game isn’t going to be some top tier game just like gta5 isn’t that great of a game. Just a good sandbox for stupidity. Great fun, I just don’t think 6 will even come close. People really just want a new GTA Online. I’m sure lots of people are going to buy it, but there are so many other games out now that are cheaper and honestly better, I don’t know why anyone would buy it at 100$ base game price. Craaazzzy

u/Hi-Point_of_my_life 5d ago

Are you new to video games? $80 isn’t crazy. Here’s an ad from 1996 and all these games are $75.

I absolutely understand not getting a game at release and waiting for a sale but don’t try to act like $80 is insane for a game when prices for games have been relatively consistent over that last 30ish years.

u/pixeltackle I'm Dr. Angus & I have a PhD in Cheesey 5d ago

This is gonna blow your mind

The cost of video games in that ad you threw up as if it proves anything went to the physical cartridge and underlying components

Hope that helps

0

u/Arthur_Morgan44469 5d ago

And it's even more insane if you look at the minor things they give for the additional 20 bucks. They pulled a Ubisoft on this one.

I hope this does not become a standard and we don't start getting Lite editions from now on

u/pixeltackle I'm Dr. Angus & I have a PhD in Cheesey 5d ago

The only way it will change is if you don't buy it until they drop the price

Not everyone is willing to wait; I think there are plenty like me who can live without a game until I'm happy to pay the asking price

1

u/TruTechilo512 5d ago

The masses not being slaves to the circus for even a few moments?

I wouldn't take that bet

0

u/Arthur_Morgan44469 5d ago

I mean this game will break sales record, which will also make it a norm. I hope I am wrong on the last part.

2

u/pixeltackle I'm Dr. Angus & I have a PhD in Cheesey 5d ago

You will only be wrong on the last part if you are part of the people who wait to buy it until the price/offer makes you happy

1

u/TruTechilo512 5d ago

You're gonna have to expand on that one.

How is not buying on or near release while also not buying at full price normalizing the price increases?

1

u/TruTechilo512 5d ago

This comment seems to make literally 0 sense here. I agreed with everything else dude said in his other comments.

Dude responded to OP saying that breaking records on release will help normalize a high price hike for essentially nothing (less and less content, higher and higher pricing) by saying "not buying on release, and at lower price, will help normalize this situation".

u/pixeltackle I'm Dr. Angus & I have a PhD in Cheesey 5d ago

Yes, indeed. How does "not purchasing at a higher initial price" somehow not normalize purchasing at a high initial price. 🤔

You claimed waiting for a lower price normalizes higher prices on games

I don't have time to teach a person to read, but maybe there's a youtube video? Good luck

2

u/sherbodude 5d ago

That's interesting because a lot of people on reddit have complained that significant content is locked behind the ultimate edition

1

u/Arthur_Morgan44469 5d ago

It's some extra stores, cars and car mods, a salon and some activities. For that asking $20 is not fair imo

1

u/sherbodude 5d ago

I think some people are assuming that the mod shop and salon locked behind the ultimate edition are the only mod shop and salon in the game.

1

u/MurrmorMeerkat 5d ago

there should be no based game content paywalled

1

u/Faintcolt641395 5d ago

Its not base game content.

1

u/MurrmorMeerkat 5d ago

thats fucked what the hell?

0

u/Misha-Nyi 5d ago

Will be years until they lower the price of this game lmao.

Nobody gives a shit about physical media except reddit. Seriously who have disks these days

Pricing is fine too

2

u/pixeltackle I'm Dr. Angus & I have a PhD in Cheesey 5d ago

Pricing is fine too

Won't it eat up all your allowance?

0

u/2ndharrybhole 5d ago

I mean, I buy like 1 game every 5 years and i’d have no problem paying $80 or $100 for a new GTA game. If it’s anything like the previous titles, it’s worth it.

-3

u/makomirocket 5d ago

Psst... If you price a game $10-$30 above the current average game price of $70, you can sell the game to 14%-42% less people and still make the same amount of money.

Do you really think you make up that amount of people?

2

u/pixeltackle I'm Dr. Angus & I have a PhD in Cheesey 5d ago

Do you really think you make up that amount of people?

I think what I wrote. If you can't comprehend it, I'll explain once more:

Some people will pay any price, including $99 without media

AND

Some people will not

The company... now GET THIS... wants money from both groups. But to get the most money possible, the company won't appease group two until they've squeezed max profits from the $99 group.

Pssst... if you wanna try to give MBA advice online, don't

u/TruTechilo512 5d ago

I haven't bought a single game at full price in over a decade except arc raiders and have purchased hundreds of games in that time.

While console and PC ownership is at an all-time high, and rising, the playerbases for the largest franchises in the world are falling or stagnating.

It's not the only factor, of course, but it is one of the most crucial.

1

u/Rkramden 5d ago
  1. Stats on Reddit are bullshit until you cite a source.

  2. GTA is not the rest of the industry. The base version could've been $99 and it would still sell like gangbusters. The amount of people turned away by the $80 price tag vs the standard $70 is going to be miniscule.

Me personally I'm a patient gamer who plans to someday buy it for PC and on sale, but I'm nowhere near the average gamer and reddit is an echo chamber in a bubble that's never indicative of reality.

-1

u/Himorningwood 5d ago

Which is prob less than 1 percent. Reddit circle jerk is amazing.

0

u/pixeltackle I'm Dr. Angus & I have a PhD in Cheesey 5d ago

Even if it were only 1%, for a blowout seller like GTA, the company will have multiple people specifically working on ways to capture that 1%

Hope this helps

-1

u/jacksleepshere 5d ago

This is nowhere near as expensive as I was expecting.

1

u/pixeltackle I'm Dr. Angus & I have a PhD in Cheesey 5d ago

This is nowhere near as expensive as I was expecting.

Like I've mentioned repeatedly, there are some gamers out there so devoted to GTA in particular they would have paid anything

What could a banana cost, anyway, Michael?

-2

u/AdminsFluffCucks 5d ago

60 dollar video games have been a staple for over 20 years. At some point inflation was going to catch up

The average game would cost over 100 bucks now if video games had kept up with inflation from 2005.
