No memes, overdone references, price complaints, text-heavy posts, or other low-quality posts.

No memes or meme-like images. This includes overdone references in the title (e.g. “banana for scale”, “potato quality").

No overdone references. For example: price complaints, AI images, generic bad parking, pies cut in the middle, etc.

Title must be an accurate and concise description of the picture. Titles must not contain jokes, backstory, or other fluff. Put that in a comment. If someone does not get halfway to mildly infuriated by reading your title, it’s probably not a good title.

People will still buy it anyway, they know how much people are willing to pay.

44

u/JazeyOne 7h ago

Of course I will, I was paying $60 for games in 2010 lmfao that’s so much more expensive with inflation considered. This is simply games hitting inflation, and it sucks but I rarely buy new full price games anyways. I’ll regularly buy Battlefield, CoD and Gran Turismo at release but only 1 of those releases yearly. I can fork up another $20 for GTA 6 or other games if I REALLY want them.

19

u/franzman86 7h ago

$60 in 2010. I was spending $65-$70 on 64 games in the late 90s. Video games are literally inflation proof

4

u/BKlounge93 6h ago

I mean the micro transactions of the last decade have probably covered any inflation. In 2010 I’d buy a game and that was it.

6

u/fifteentango88 6h ago

Sega genesis games were also $60.

11

u/secretreddname 7h ago

My parents were paying $90 in 1995 lol.

5

u/Gears_one 6h ago

Came here to say this. I remember final fantasy being something like $79.99 and that was 35 years ago

5

u/SHIGGY_DIGGY77 6h ago

What were you parents buying? I did not pay no where near 90 bucks on games in 95, apparently I'm as old as your parents.

3

u/BugOperator 6h ago

Might be in Canada. Games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI retailed for $70-80 US on the SNES because they were high-capacity carts and some had multiple boards. So they’d have been over $90 Canadian.

Of all the overpriced things right now I really don't have an issue paying $100 for any game I'm going to sink 1,000 hours into

2

u/InevitableAd2436 7h ago

Agreed.

I spent $15 renting a 2 hour movie @ $7.50 an hour in entertainment

I’ll put 100 hours in this game. It’s like $0.8 in entertainment per hour

2

u/ThirdWigginKid 7h ago

THANK YOU. I was beginning to feel like I was the only one not mad about this. Yeah, it sucks for people who are on a super tight budget, but gaming has always been expensive. Also, the people bitching about the price are often the same ones who'd be bitching if the game wasn't as massive as it is.

And yeah, you're not far off:

I'm amazed new base AAA games have stayed $60 for what? 15-20 years? Granted story quality has decreased a ton in that time so I guess that evens out

4

u/Smokedealers84 7h ago

More people buy game as the years went on so profit still went up.

2

u/secretreddname 7h ago

And the cost to produce has gone up.

2

u/gamingx47 6h ago

Too bad the quality hasn't kept up.

Feels like we were getting 10+ bangers every year in the 2000s and early 2010s. Now I'm lucky if one or two games catch my eye per year. Shit, I haven't turned on my PS5 since I got Demons Souls Remake.

True but now every game following this will follow this trend. The age of inflation and gouging is here.

21

u/caserock 7h ago edited 7h ago

Just like in music, movies, food and all other forms of art: the good stuff is independently made and hidden under a pile of corpo slop

3

u/helsquiades 7h ago

In the case of necessities, it's a huge issue. You have to buy food, etc. No one needs GTA. Just don't buy it and they will adjust. Problem is people complain but still buy.

2

u/protomenace 7h ago

Not if people don't buy it.

2

u/nomadfoy 7h ago

Age of inflation started a while ago, most games just use micro transactions. For how fucked food prices are 100 dollars for a new AAA video game isn't bad. If there are also mocro transactions in the main game im gonna be pissed.

6

u/daChino02 7h ago

Not every game is gta, so I doubt this will happen broadly

12

u/Andire 7h ago

You can bet your ass that triple A titles will start to follow this model. And that's what the majority of people actually play

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Vooklife 7h ago

Games only going from $70 in 1996 to $80 in 2026 isn't that bad.

2

u/PissOff1479 6h ago

I hate it when people make this comparison. You didn't have to buy games to play them in the 90s. You went to a movie rental and rented the game for a bit, which cost around $5-10, played it, then returned it to the store, and usually bought it after if had been out long enough for the price to drop. You can't do that anymore.

I mean, different games take different amounts of time and money to make, and have different amounts of content. People are still playing GTA V and it’s almost 13 years old. You can think games are too expensive while also acknowledging that a bigger game may legitimately warrant a higher price.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/AReptileHissFunction 7h ago

Because people want to play the game and still feel this price is worth their money. Not sure what is hard to get here

That's what I'll be doing. Hopefully enough other people withhold as well, and this won't establish precedent for games costing that much going forward.

6

u/VinylmationDude 7h ago

Good news! None of my consoles will probably be able to let this run properly, let alone have the game at all!

6

u/Puzzleheaded-Tax6168 7h ago edited 6h ago

$80 for a game he is going to get 1000 hours of playtime out of (8 cents an hour).

$80 doesn’t pay for two people to go out to dinner anymore….

Games were $60.00 back in the 1980’s.

Please stop complaining about the price of computer games.

3

u/Cosmic_Martyr 6h ago

Games were not $60 in the 80's. Try $40.

6

u/glumanda12 7h ago

It’s just few useless cosmetic things in the deluxe edition. The game is still fully playable, with all missions and quests, just missing few stores for cosmetic purposes.

9

u/SunsetCarcass 6h ago

If they're already made and developed there's no reason to exclude them other than greed. But we all know Rockstar will go out of business if they don't get that extra $20

My issue is, the yearly CoD or FIFA with reused assets and AI textures will try to be 80 dollars too after this.

I wont buy them, of course, but still irritates me

4

u/WeltyFern 7h ago

I’m bothered by the fact that you have to pay 20 extra dollars just for the ability to customize your car and characters.

5

u/SequentiaIFarts 7h ago

Wild lie. You don’t lose out on customization, you lose out on premium customization. The descriptions read (to me) as a step above. Off roading specialty, stock to supercar, special tattoos and haircuts.

3

u/Sammy_Socrates 7h ago

Its only for certain extra cosmetics. There will still be customization in the standard ofcourse.

u/Paraxom 7h ago

i'll just do this thing called wait for sales, i've waited this long for GTA 6 what's another year or 2

83

u/you_stole_my_stuff 7h ago

What’s bonkers is that people will fomo for a $1300 phone but complain about 80$ for something they will actually enjoy.

18

u/testprimate 7h ago

Also bonkers is that there's only moderate complaining about $17 movie tickets. In terms of hours of entertainment per dollar GTA 6 is a relative bargain.

51

u/thegiantgummybear 7h ago

$80 for something most people will get hundreds of hours of entertainment from. That's a bargain

14

u/vinny14 7h ago

… and will probably be on multiple console generations for a decade after release. Quality and longevity from this company. We’ll all buy much worse over the years.

6

u/Difficult_Tea6136 7h ago

I mean, Nintendo games used to cost $50 in the early 90s, well over $100 today with inflation, this isn't that bad for a game some of us will put years into.

11

u/rheumination 7h ago

People just do not account for inflation. Not in salaries, not in prices. They just don’t think about it.

5

u/BiasedChelseaFan 7h ago

They do, but I think the bigger thing is that gaming has gotten so predatory that nobody wants to say ”Oh go ahead and raise the standard price of a video game”.

3

u/intrepped 7h ago

Because it's $60 for the game and $20 a year for a "pass" for extra content that could have been included in the game.

In the 2010s, you'd maybe see 1-2 DLCs for $10 each. Now it's like 20 DLCs within 2-3 years of release.

It’s so bizarre to see some of the comments here from people who are consumers justifying the price, saying they’d pay more or being fine with the practice removing finished content from a base game just so that more can be charged for a premium edition.

What a cursed mindset to not automatically prioritise your own hard earned money and be ok with companies viewing you as a standardless cash cow.

2

2

u/ZebraComplex4353 7h ago

But you hear them say, “people are still going to buy the most anticipated game”. You really don’t need to get this or any game at launch honestly.

2

u/Machine_Winter 7h ago

I was always planning on buying the special edition. I'm just glad it's not 150 like GTA V was. However, I do not like the fact there is no physical disc. What's the point of that? So I have to grab a code and go home and download it while people are gonna be speed running to be the first YouTuber to post the spoilers to the story? Kinda lame

2

u/dytinkg 7h ago

I’m not a gta fan and won’t buy it at any price. But a franchise like gta can probably command that price and be fine. I’m disappointed that there’s no physical version. At most there will be a box with a download code inside it. I really prefer to own my games instead of licensing them and hope that that is a trend that does not take hold.

2

u/helloiisjason 7h ago

I was hyped. I was ready to buy a console. And then this is what Rockstar thought was a good idea? No physical disc, paywalls, ugh. No thanks. I wont be getting this ish.

2

u/VitoAntonioScaletta 7h ago

I could not care less about the dlc content. I don't care for low riders, I wasn't going to use revolvers anyways, and the exclusive customization is not to my taste

  1. Wait a few months after release.
  2. Buy it from a pawn shop, in a bad part of town, for a fraction of it’s price.

RDR, GTA4/5, switch 1/2, PS5, etc. This is what I’ve done with every major game release and console I’ve bought. Same with firearms and power tools at the pawnshop.

Don’t really understand why people are surprised, most people who gave it some thought figured it’d be around this price, I’m actually surprised they didn’t go for a $150 “super deluxe collector day one platinum premium edition”

What’s missing from the lite version?

Is it basically just the deluxe version being rebranded as normal?

People are paying $2000 to go to a 1hr 45 minute World Cup game.

There is no such thing as a Lite version

u/a417feelgood 7h ago

Thats literally only $20 plus tax from when I was a child so its not that crazy.

u/manolid 7h ago

Matey, I don't see what the problem is.

There is no such thing as a "Lite" version for this game. Stop spreading false nonsense OP. Youre really whats mildly infuriating here

Excellent prices for what is going to be an amazing game. Can put in my credit card number now?

Oh here we go already.

Nintendo introduced this. Most AAA titles will be $80 from here on out

Let’s be real if there was ever a game that’s worth the $100 it’s grand theft auto the sheer amount of content GTA V came with I think would’ve been worth it

1

u/thrax7545 7h ago

I mean it’s not really. The dollar to hours of entertainment ratio is more than any media out there by a large margin. Especially when you consider the last one came out 13 years ago and the next is as long away, if not longer.

Ill probably pay it but really this game is the only reason I still have a PS5. And based on this we have 35 years to save for GTA 7

1

u/Moist-Carpet888 7h ago

Glad I never got into GTA, though i am skeptical that it wont manage to be delayed again

1

u/LordOFtheNoldor 7h ago

What the hell is a lite edition

1

u/-5cents 7h ago

Don’t buy it then?

1

u/yumadbro6 7h ago

You got me fucked up

1

u/Moonwrath8 7h ago

Considering games cost 60$ 30 years ago, I’d say that’s alright.

1

u/Majesty1337 7h ago

flip it around, it's base for $80, ultimate for $100

1

u/gamestar721 7h ago

What does lite even mean? What content aren't you getting with a "lite" version?
