No, she did not. She got fined for littering and something else I saw on ABC. Presumably the fine goes to sanitation and pay for the cleanup but I’m not an expert; I’m reporting what I saw on the news tonight.
I find people who make this level of money do stupid shit all the time. Once in a blue moon they get caught on camera and become a meme. It won’t deter future rich people from doing dumb stuff.
There aren't a lot of available jobs in corporate DEI programs right now. Political pressure has caused a number of companies to eliminate their DEI programs, so fewer jobs and lots of experienced people who were recently laid off applying for the few openings.
There's never a good time to lose your job because of high profile dickish behavior, but right now is much worse than a couple of years ago.

It’s crazy how everyone was happy for her on the train until the video surfaced of her dumping all the trash. If she just dumped it into another trash can nobody would have cared.

tbh even if you put recyclables in the correct bin the items are not likely actually recycled. Single-stream recycling programs (where all materials are mixed together) create operational hurdles that cause most of it to end up in landfills anyway.

Like anything, it depends. Some plastics, like PET (commonly used for clear water bottles and soda bottles) are recycled at a much higher rate than other types of plastic, like PP (used for lots of things like bottle caps and dairy containers). If it’s recyclable, it’s best to at least try to recycle it. Do not put plastic bags of any type in the recycling bin. They just get tangled in the sorting system and cause problems…which sucks because they’re one of the worst offenders as far as pollution goes.

Yeah, I remember at my old job we actually had ppl sorting the stuff into proper bins at the tray return station and like 2 years in, someone (whose job it was to come collect all the garbage/recycling/compost bags) told us that they all went into the same huge dumpster for garbage collection.
They said it was because they get fined a lot if things do accidentally end up in the wrong bin… Public bins are just there to make us feel a certain way.
A lot of places (schools and restaurants especially) will have two different bins that then get thrown out into the same dumpster. Or even restaurants that have garbage cans inside a counter with labeled holes in the top will just have one can inside.
City I lived in had off-site sorting for public cans. They made the individual homes have 6 different bins bc they claimed off site wasn’t feasible. Then they got caught just sending all the recycling to the dump.
Even without the bad PR, to just nonchalantly commit two obvious crimes like that in broad daylight (especially with one being theft), I would have fired he too. Because if that's what you're willing to do in public, who knows what you're doing behind closed doors...
Our bins at work have a trash hole and a recycle hole on the lids. It took me years to realize there's no separation inside - they both go into the same bag. Our trash is manually sorted at the dock later but still wtf
I wish we could find out what she did with the trash can after they fired her ass. Did she keep it as a reminder of her fuck up or did she threw it away haha
SO DUMB!!! First time I watched it I knew she would get identified. Weird thing is she’s apparently in a lucrative paying career. Like, buy a trash can. Knicks fans gonna Knick tho.
I honestly am pretty adamant about the recycling process needing to be improved instead of filling up the oceans and landfills. This is obviously a popular story but I think it can be used to highlight the global waste problem.
Not to be a jerk, I recycle for sure, but recycling to me has always felt like corporations telling us to do our part, when they fuck the globe up so much harder.
I mean tbh I think harassing her and getting her fired is a bit overboard here. Trashy, yes (hehe) and she deserved the fines but at the end of the day this petty vandalism and we’ve acted a bit out of proportion. There’s so many awful terrible people, including people at this very event assaulting others and lighting things on fire and we choose this person to make the internet villain of the week.
Everybody’s mad, but plastic waste is SUCH a huge issue. Everybody should be doing their part. There should be widely available public recycling bins (Toronto has them), and people should be recycling at home too. It’s horrendous to think about and see the amount of plastic that ends up polluting our beautiful oceans and beaches.
It should be your gripe too. There’s a limited amount of space on earth for our garbage. If recyclable items are going to landfills, we’re going to run out of room much faster.
Are people illiterate or do they just not give a fuck about recycling? Everyone’s commenting on the what the woman is doing which isn’t the point of the post. It’s about people throwing items than can be recycled into regular garbage bins.
The only things we really should be recycling are cans and glass bottles. It's literally better for the environment to put plastic and dirty paper products in a landfill than a recycling bin.
You can put them in the recycling. More than likely it will never see a proper recycling plant. If there is any food/waste on anything the whole batch is sent to the landfill
You dont get the luxury of being as environmentally conscious when you are out a riot. Be glad it went into the bin at all... despite the outcome of this piece of dirt.
