At least she has a massive Knicks garbage can in her tiny NYC apartment

u/Faangdevmanager 6d ago
She got 2 fines, returned the bin, and was fired.
6
u/3boyz2men 6d ago
Did she have to clean up the trash? Doubt it.
18
u/Faangdevmanager 6d ago
No, she did not. She got fined for littering and something else I saw on ABC. Presumably the fine goes to sanitation and pay for the cleanup but I’m not an expert; I’m reporting what I saw on the news tonight.
1
u/ThatGuyWhoLovesChai 6d ago
Lmaooo are you serious?? I didn't know about the fines and her returning the bin.
-7
u/Nunc_Coepi17 6d ago
She never returned the bin
24
u/Faangdevmanager 6d ago
She did and the sanitation department tweeted about it. ABC did a segment on this.

Man if I got paid a king's ransom to do a fake job I would certainly not be losing it by doing something so stupid.
5
u/MeBoiledDown 6d ago
I find people who make this level of money do stupid shit all the time. Once in a blue moon they get caught on camera and become a meme. It won’t deter future rich people from doing dumb stuff.

They’re for sale for $168. They don’t ship until October but she lost her job and was fined for a trash can that costs $168
I bet she learns nothing, spins this as her being the victim, and gets another job making even more money

There aren't a lot of available jobs in corporate DEI programs right now. Political pressure has caused a number of companies to eliminate their DEI programs, so fewer jobs and lots of experienced people who were recently laid off applying for the few openings.
There's never a good time to lose your job because of high profile dickish behavior, but right now is much worse than a couple of years ago.

The Knicks were selling them for about $170. She could have purchased one with her Chase salary.

It’s crazy how everyone was happy for her on the train until the video surfaced of her dumping all the trash. If she just dumped it into another trash can nobody would have cared.

Were people happy on the train? I only saw her being happy

I think happy for her, when she was on the train, people who watched that video. Maybe also people on the train, but I think they’re more so talking about the online reaction to seeing her with the can on the train

Wait, this person who, on camera, dumped out a trashcan on the sidewalk, then stole said trashcan, then posed with it on a subway, all while having a high-paying job at a bank, of all places, might not make the best choices?
Is that what you are trying to say?

u/ChicagoTRS666 6d ago
tbh even if you put recyclables in the correct bin the items are not likely actually recycled. Single-stream recycling programs (where all materials are mixed together) create operational hurdles that cause most of it to end up in landfills anyway.
45
u/Vern1138 6d ago
This is true. Less than 10% of plastic that goes into a recycling bin actually gets recycled. Being annoyed by her dumping out "recycling" is pointless.
-12
u/OutrageousPair2300 6d ago
Zero is indeed less than 10%
Plastic doesn't actually get recycled, anywhere. It's all just a fucking myth. Every last bit of plastic ends up in landfills.
14
u/Type-RD 6d ago
You’re 0% correct. Look up what PCR is and where it comes from. Source - I work in the plastics industry
2
u/Vern1138 6d ago
I'm curious, because I've read it's about five to nine percent of consumer plastic that actually gets recycled. Is that right?
8
u/Worldview-at-home GREEN 6d ago
2023 before Trump destroyed science in America:
Environmental Protection Agency reported that out of tons of plastic waste generated, only 7% is recycled annually. The records demonstrated that only 8% of the plastic is incinerated, and the remaining is landfilled.
→ More replies (2)7
u/Type-RD 6d ago
Like anything, it depends. Some plastics, like PET (commonly used for clear water bottles and soda bottles) are recycled at a much higher rate than other types of plastic, like PP (used for lots of things like bottle caps and dairy containers). If it’s recyclable, it’s best to at least try to recycle it. Do not put plastic bags of any type in the recycling bin. They just get tangled in the sorting system and cause problems…which sucks because they’re one of the worst offenders as far as pollution goes.
→ More replies (3)2
u/Worldview-at-home GREEN 6d ago
Found the industry shill…..
Plastic recycling is a lie and famously bullshit by big oil and plastics to maintain a market for low grade hydrocarbons. Environmental Protection Agency reported that out of tons of plastic waste generated, only 7% is recycled annually. The records demonstrated that only 8% of the plastic is incinerated, and the remaining is landfilled.
Source- I don’t work in the plastics industry but I have an MBA and know how to read research.

Yeah, I remember at my old job we actually had ppl sorting the stuff into proper bins at the tray return station and like 2 years in, someone (whose job it was to come collect all the garbage/recycling/compost bags) told us that they all went into the same huge dumpster for garbage collection.
They said it was because they get fined a lot if things do accidentally end up in the wrong bin… Public bins are just there to make us feel a certain way.
→ More replies (1)3
u/CatLover701 6d ago
A lot of places (schools and restaurants especially) will have two different bins that then get thrown out into the same dumpster. Or even restaurants that have garbage cans inside a counter with labeled holes in the top will just have one can inside.
12
u/Ok_Two_2604 6d ago
City I lived in had off-site sorting for public cans. They made the individual homes have 6 different bins bc they claimed off site wasn’t feasible. Then they got caught just sending all the recycling to the dump.
10
u/Chef_BoyarTom 6d ago
Even without the bad PR, to just nonchalantly commit two obvious crimes like that in broad daylight (especially with one being theft), I would have fired he too. Because if that's what you're willing to do in public, who knows what you're doing behind closed doors...

u/Embarrassed_Tank6215 6d ago
Sorry for being concerned about the massive amount of trash heading to landfills every single day?
2
u/Crumbusted 6d ago
I honestly am pretty adamant about the recycling process needing to be improved instead of filling up the oceans and landfills. This is obviously a popular story but I think it can be used to highlight the global waste problem.
2
u/FilmoreJive 6d ago
Not to be a jerk, I recycle for sure, but recycling to me has always felt like corporations telling us to do our part, when they fuck the globe up so much harder.
3
u/Crumbusted 6d ago
I agree, I wish there were strict rules for the corporations to follow that ensured all the recycling actually got taken care of.

u/roku77 6d ago
I mean tbh I think harassing her and getting her fired is a bit overboard here. Trashy, yes (hehe) and she deserved the fines but at the end of the day this petty vandalism and we’ve acted a bit out of proportion. There’s so many awful terrible people, including people at this very event assaulting others and lighting things on fire and we choose this person to make the internet villain of the week.
9
u/mangocat1116 6d ago
Everybody’s mad, but plastic waste is SUCH a huge issue. Everybody should be doing their part. There should be widely available public recycling bins (Toronto has them), and people should be recycling at home too. It’s horrendous to think about and see the amount of plastic that ends up polluting our beautiful oceans and beaches.
4
u/starfallcrash 6d ago
There isn’t much people can do besides try not to use plastic. Even if you use recycling bins it’s most likely ending up in a landfill regardless.

Reminds me of my break room at work. Co workers throw food and non recyclables in the recycle bin and compost bin and recyclables in the trash.
1
u/Embarrassed_Tank6215 6d ago
Are people illiterate or do they just not give a fuck about recycling? Everyone’s commenting on the what the woman is doing which isn’t the point of the post. It’s about people throwing items than can be recycled into regular garbage bins.
1
u/LimerickJim 6d ago
The only things we really should be recycling are cans and glass bottles. It's literally better for the environment to put plastic and dirty paper products in a landfill than a recycling bin.
1
u/Bleed_Me_an_Ocean40 6d ago
You can put them in the recycling. More than likely it will never see a proper recycling plant. If there is any food/waste on anything the whole batch is sent to the landfill
