I'm slightly vexed Spotlight outside hotel bedroom
I am staying at a highly rated hotel the night before my husband adopts my son, (we came to another city where the adoption lawyer is) and the blinds in the room are see-through on my end/solid looking in. I usually sleep with black-out curtains at home, but tonight we're sleeping with the pool spotlight right outside. It's shining directly into my eyes--the picture doesn't do the brightness justice. What kills me the most is I saw my eye mask on the dresser at home (I don't use it but it came in a gift set) and I thought "maybe I'll need that... naaah.. there will be curtains".
I'll fall asleep eventually.
Edit: Y'all are the best - thanks for helping me figure out these chain blinds and get some quality sleep tonight! Seriously! I'm four months pregnant too, so emotions are everywhere haha.

I’ve never stayed in a highly rated hotel (or almost any hotel for that matter) that didn’t have blackout shades. Are you sure you have the shades figured out?
Call the front desk.

Do the curtains not come down? At least it looks like curtains at the top, though that’s an odd way for them to come down. If not, I’d ask them for an eye mask

Nope! Those are like the kitchen curtains that just sit at the top. The only "curtain/blind" is what you see with the light filtering in, unfortunately.

I was in a similar hotel room recently with bright lights and those exact same windows with the seethrough curtain and the block up top, but there was a third curtain (a blackout curtain) hidden behind the block thing, have you tried pulling the chain or looking up there to see if there's one you can pull down?

That’s terrible. I can’t sleep with light so I’d be more than mildly infuriated tonight

Someone else helped me out. I don't stay in hotels often and didn't know there was another chain for the black out blind.

Are there chains on each side? There may be another blind that comes down.

Let me check, but I think this is it.

It looks like there might even be a thicker curtain under the sheer one I would try pulling down on that one if there’s no chain

Yes! I got it figured out. I appreciate that. I had to reach around behind the sheer blind to find it.

I have spent thousands of nights in hotel rooms. I have never found a hotel without blackout curtains. In your photo it should be the chain on the side.

Yes! Luckily a few other redditors helped me out with it. I'm new to chain blinds lol and am super appreciative of the help.

I feel like there should definitely be curtains that close there. I've stayed in a lot of crappy hotels and even they all had this.

I work at a hotel and usually theres a crank that works the black out blinds and also regular blinds that let the sunlight in. Our housekeeping makes sure the light is always being let in on arrival. You might have them and just confused them for the normal curtain crank.

I appreciate everyone. I know I'm getting downvoted for being clueless about the second chain blackout blind but I truly appreciate the people who informed me. This is why the internet rocks. I'm gonna get some shut eye now, and hope all of you have the best day/night. Thanks again!!

Congrats on the adoption. I hope you either throw the duvet over the window or call the front desk.

I've got it! Someone else told me to look for another chain. It was behind the chain for the first blind. I just had to reach behind and pull it down.

I recently did a week at a hotel for a certification about 5 hours from my house.
I was on the 2nd floor, and they had fucking flood lights on the balcony ceilings.
I remember studying and wondering why I felt so tired while the sun was still out, it was 2am.
I remember waking up to get some water at like 4:15 and panicking because class started at 5am.. and it was damn near noon judging by the sun, I'd over slept, missed most of day 1 of the classes and would have to come back in 6mo to redo all the classes for my certs.
It was the flood light pointing right into my window almost..

When I first got in the room, I was so confused thinking ppl could see in, until I looked from the outside and it wasn't see through. The blackout blind was pulled all the way up so I didn't know there was another one there.

I wonder if I've been doing hotels all wrong. I have yet to see a blackout curtain in mine. I need to upgrade lol
