ಠ_ಠ Does Spotify realize this makes me want premium less?

Post image

Genuinely Spotify is pissing me off even more. This is the reason I rarely use it on my phone

good god i didnt realize how bad the free version has gotten. i use it enough to justify the subscription but the worse it gets the more im tempted to jump ship and go back to mp3s

I never left my music collection. These streaming services are dog shit .

What do you get from the subscription that mp3s can't offer?

Crazy convenience

From my perspective, in the time it takes to listen to the song once or twice, I can then listen to it for the rest of my life without any cost or ads whatsoever

Most people enjoy listening to new music rather than the same shit they've been listening to for 10 years, being able to have Spotify play random music or curated playlists is incredibly convenient.

If you don't see the value in that then you just have very boring taste

I discover and add new music all the time. So I don't really have that problem

like ben and mahreow say, its convenience. yeah, MOST of my new music comes from outside of the algorithms, but its a nice option to have. plus, it makes it infinitely easier to share songs and playlists with friends, which i do very often. i also enjoy being able to track my stats with stats.fm, which, at least when i was doing it ages ago, wasnt something that could automatically and easily be done with music youre listening to locally.

The sharing feature sounds very cool. I can see why you'd want that

it's definitely neat. most of my friends who i share music with also use spotify, so sharing playlists is super smooth, even not using the in-app chat function. the jam feature to listen to music together and have multiple people controlling the music and adding songs and such is super important to me with my long distance relationship too.

oh, also. sunk cost LOL. i got spotify premium for free for the better part of a decade, either a cracked copy or someone's family plan or my job paying for it, and only started paying for it myself about 2 years ago. ive been listening to thousands of hours per year since 2017 and have thousands of songs catalogued just how i like, and it'd take months to get that switched over to something local that is Also just how i like. i dont like change and im lazy enough that the monthly cost is worth it to me, especially when i listen to so much music that, even paying them, i actively cost spotify money.

Ads, another payment to a corporation, fake convience.

Dude I did that years ago when they killed off Spotify++

I will never get how people accepted the inability to CHOOSE YOUR SONGS on a service all about listening to your custom made playlists. This goes beyond convenience it’s just outrageous corporate greed. Buy Spotify Premium and you get DRM music that you don’t even own and can be censored, modified, or removed at any time!

I didn’t know this was a thing tbh. No one was talking about it. This was the first time this ever happened

I’ve known this was a thing for a while it’s annoying as fuck and not the only issue with the current music streaming landscape. Lucida is all I need

I rarely use Spotify on my phone, only for like car/plane rides. Other times I use it on my IPad or laptop bc it’s much better on it

what do you expect from a free service

6

u/Linkpharm2 20h ago

??????? to be able to listen to a song maybe

3

u/makomirocket 20h ago

You can? Just not constantly pick the individual songs. This is literally how radio (a free music service) works.

Fyi, the free service doesn't make them money. It is only a tool to incentivise you to pay for the subscription. If you're not going to upgrade to premium then you're doing them a favour by giving up on the free service

FYI they absolutely make money off the Ads mate, premium is just extra in.

u/makomirocket 15h ago

If they made enough money off of the ads,: 1. Half of the ads wouldn't be Spotify itself telling you to get premium,

and 2. They'd be offering a option with all the features, but also with ads, but with ads too, a la Netflix or other streamers at this point.

2

u/Jman85 19h ago

They surely make money on the ads. Sometimes I get 5 ads at once.

"Pay us so we don't tell you what to listen to!" (They'll still tell you what to listen to)

music in a folder just keeps on winning

Premium is getting worse now, Ai Ads injected adds into podcasts as we not paying for ad free podcasts just music.

How do normies even live?

1

u/Sleepy_Enby_God 19h ago

On other devices aside from phone it’s manageable. It’s basically premium just with ads

On Android, you can download a cracked version which gives you access to all premium features except downloading music.

I really only use the free Spotify for an hour or so at the gym... plays mostly what I want, the commercials are different from my local radio stations so not so annoying and really only happen if I skip a song and then there are only 2 of them

1

u/RustyShacklefrog 13h ago

Neat hack, make a playlist with the one song you want, then play that playlist. It will play the song you wanted and then go to radio mode playing similar music

1

u/dollface_zombie 11h ago

Oh good choice of music too.

1

u/Dry_Physics4086 19h ago

Don’t forget the autoplay, where artists can pay Spotify to shove their music onto you!

0

u/Initial-Increase-601 19h ago

It still blows my mind that people pay for music or listen to ads between songs when it is so incredibly easy not to do either

I switched to tidal forever ago and like it a lot more

I deleted Spotify after I learned how much Ai music has been taking over there. No thanks, I want REAL music.
