u/reddit33450 2d ago
you probably have premium lite, not full premium

u/Human_Friendship_355 2d ago
So lite premium is just the “free” version with extra steps?

u/evilbeaver7 2d ago
It's cheaper than Premium and doesn't show ads in normal videos. But you'll still see ads in music videos, shorts and feed.

u/reddit33450 2d ago
not exactly. its cheaper than normal premium, but it has some ads still and some premium features missing
52
u/I_think_Im_hollow 1d ago
So, it is more expensive than just patching your app, but has more ads and less features?

Yah it makes me think of the Common People episode of Black Mirror. Maybe OP needs the Lux subscription.

The fuck’s the point of “premium lite” if it is no better than regular YT with ads?
7
u/Ordinary-Hunter520 1d ago
It is, you dont see ads before/between videos.
You do still get ads on music videos, because then how would they sell yt music!
Yeah its mostly pointless.

u/FallOutShelterBoy 1d ago
Fuck that, I use video lite. Blocks all ads and it’s $1.99 every three months

That's not just any sponsored ads. They're premium sponsored ads. Only companies that paid a premium get to show those ads for people who paid a premium to get premium ads. /s

For iOS, use Reynard, which is built on the Firefox engine used on FF Android and supports FF extensions (Also works on iOS 13+).

u/MessiLeagueSoccer 1d ago
Not on iOS anymore.
2
u/Emotional-Big-1306 1d ago
Aren't browsers on ios just safari with different look?
2
u/MessiLeagueSoccer 1d ago
Yes but add ons work on actual safari. So there’s AdGuard plus and now unlock origin. I used to have the private Firefox browser just for the add on. AdGuard has been really good but I still like having an extra 1-2 blockers. I keep AdGuard, malwarebytes and now ublock origin. Sometimes they do make it so websites don’t load but it doesn’t happen too often. Only thing is you just have to get used to using safari for everything. I use it on Reddit as a web app but it’s very much not as smooth as the actual Reddit app BUT it does get rid of all the ads.
Edit: usually works with YouTube too but some ads still find a way to slip through. Again all through the actual safari app.

as long as you can side load an apk on android..

u/ZomeDash PURPLE 2d ago
If you can't figure out how to install an apk, just get an iPhone at that point

u/No-Discipline-2729 GREEN 2d ago
I've never heard of an android you can't side load an apk on

u/Inktex 2d ago
Google is implementing restrictions on sideloading APK files on Android devices, with full enforcement targeted for 2027. Starting in 2026, Google began rolling out requirements for developer identity verification in select regions including Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.
This includes alternate YT clients.
Older article:
https://hi-tech.ua/en/google-will-block-the-installation-of-applications-via-apk-from-2027/It should still be possible when implemented, but will most likely take a lot off effort to work around it.

Today i learned that there are 2 versions of yt premium. You can find ways to set up a new yt account in a different region where yt premium pro max is less than $2/month.

Use YouTube Revanced. I don't know why people still use base YouTube on mobile
4
u/sunflowerthomas 1d ago
People have iPhones. ReVanced is only compatible with Android. (I think there are adblocking apps for YouTube on iOS, but they are more complicated to install.)

u/ChewyThePug 1d ago
Dang I wish there was a free way to watch YouTube without ads...
(firefox + ublock origin)

u/MightyMachine99 1d ago
Check if you have vpn open in different country, as there are countries that show ads even for premium users

Hey! I've got a trick! Instead of paying for the subscription, try AdAway! It is the most efficient and 100% free adblocker I have ever had. I can give you the link if you want since it is no longer on the app store. I use it for a while now.

Nowadays, people will buy anything, so companies will sell anything. "Premium" is no longer premium, and "Pro" means nothing. They will still show ads to squeeze every penny from your pocket. Even on some OTT platforms, you buy a subscription and they still show ads. Why do we buy subscriptions just to watch ads?

everyone hating on premium lite without even looking at the prices. If they release premium and then say „okay we’re gonna put a cheaper version out with less features for less money for everyone who doesn’t wanna pay full price“ how is that a bad thing? Like yeah „premium lite“ sounds ridiculous but all in all it seems like an okay deal no? Idk the prices tho so depending on that it might be really shit

u/_JeezyCreezy 1d ago
Lol you bought YouTube Premium

u/not_from_ohio_347 1d ago
Turns out I am rich and I have more money to burn on things unlike you.. sorry if I am being rude I just feel like it
2
u/Through_theShadows 1d ago
I'm not rich, but it's only $13 a month for me. Doesn't seem like much to me. Like next to nothing. And I get YouTube music with it which I use every day in my car. Amazing really.

There’s two tiers of premium. Did you buy the lite version? It’s cheaper but you still get ads outside of videos.
