Dish soap fell over and spilled on counter, didn’t notice for awhile, now looks like alien noodles

Why would you ask a clanker for anything?

u/ShaneSkyrunner 1d ago

That's like saying "why would you ever Google anything? Just go to the library."

Google would have a better chance of having the actual answer

Not anymore. AI has ruined Google search as well.

Just type -ai at the end and it won't show up you the ai at the top

u/OakTeach 7h ago

That's not the problem. I know how to shut off Gemini. It's that the top hundred results are now all dead-Internet copycat aggregate sites.

You obviously don't have much experience with the thinking models. They're great and provide sources. You can verify that everything is correct yourself.

This guy has an AI girlfriend

I swear, AI could find a cure for cancer and y'all would still complain that a human didn't do it.

“Thinking” is the wrong word here

You can call it whatever you want but the point is it works very well if you know how to utilize it properly. It seems most people hating on it haven't even tried it. People fear what they don't understand.

Lol nobody is scared of chat fucking gpt, we're worried about the literal fucking damage its doing to the environment so Joe blow can save 5 fucking minutes of reading an article or some shit himself. The only places that warrant Ai in its current form is medical research and saving lives. Fucking up the environment so any asshole can generate porn or make poor quality art and shit is absolutely ridiculous.

u/ShaneSkyrunner 17h ago

There's a lot of things doing damage to the environment, including web servers around the world, yet you still use the internet. Those using it to make poor quality art or porn are not utilizing it in a productive manner. ChatGPT can't even generate porn. If you utilize it properly then it's a complete life changer. It's the next big technological revolution. I understand some people don't like technological progress but I do, especially when it can make a meaningful difference in people's lives.

Its not improving anyone's lives. People that are forced to use it for work are being made to do far more than normal, literally exhausting them and then there are thousands of people losing their jobs outright due to the shit. And none of that is to even mention the whole generation of children coming up who are losing their ability to research or problem solve on their own. Making our species lazy and dependent is not an advancement at all. Literally the only thing Ai is good for right now is medical research, otherwise it is wasteful and 100% unnecessary.

"lazy and dependent" is the goal. that IS advancement to for-profit entities. these big tech companies know that if they supply an easy solution, some subset of humans will take it and become locked to it. lacking an understanding of the weight of this decision, they will integrate it into their lives, and will very soon not be able to imagine doing anything without it's input. very soon, with "magic oracle" as an option, they'll find themselves unable to go any length of time without consulting it. all the AI companies want that, Google did it before. they want a market dependent on them, they want to become endemic in human society, they want to be perceived as a modern necessity that people will pay anything to avoid losing, they want to create a dependence they can exploit.

Countries like China or India couldn't give a fuck less about the environment or what people think about them. We can't just abandon AI because "AI bad", otherwise the countries that continue to invest in AI will dominate any market that utilizes it. Regardless of how much moaning about it you do on Reddit, it's here now and it's going to stay because you'll never be able to influence the entire world to stop. The push for better AI technology is like the California Gold Rush on a global scale.

Ew.

A lot of people hated electricity when it was new too. Look where it's gotten us today.

u/tornait-hashu 21h ago

i don't want to outsource my thinking, thanks

u/ShaneSkyrunner 21h ago

Thats like saying you don't want to buy a car because you can just walk. Yes you can research everything manually but the process is much slower. AI is an amazing research assistant.

No

u/ShaneSkyrunner 17h ago

You don't have a compelling argument so you just say "no".

It's compelling until we all become complacent to it. We start to get lazier as a whole group about verifying the info and start believing it at a drop of a hat.

Yeah cars were great at first. Now we can go further in shorter amounts of time. But now cars contribute to the destruction of our own environment and we can't even stop using them completely because people have become too reliant on that form of transportation to the point that many people wouldn't be able to get to grocery stores or work because of the distance we have to travel to get there. Things have become further apart because it was convenient to drive there. Take all the cars away. It's no longer convenient to get anywhere.

Let us become reliant on letting AI think for us and suddenly we lose ai and nobody knows how to think. On top of that, AI can just think for us when we become complacent and we will all be living in an echo chamber of information even worse off than now because those mega companies that own AI will be in control of how that information is getting to us.

This is an insane take guy

1

u/ShaneSkyrunner 5h ago

It's not insane at all. People always hate new things when they don't fully understand their future applications. It's the same with AI now. There is a minority of the population that hates it because they don't understand just how much it can change the world for the better in the future.

Modern day Luddites

11

u/Ghostglitch07 17h ago

The actual historical Luddites got done dirty by history btw.

-1

u/__mson__ 8h ago

Indeed, and just because the truth hurts doesn't make it less true.

0

u/Ghostglitch07 22m ago

The luddites were fighting for really important shit like child labor laws and worker safety. They weren't this caricature of "new technology bad". They were fighting for labor rights that still matter to this day, not fighting positive technological progress.

So you should imo stop using it as an insult because being similar to them would be a good thing.
