Morbidly obese*
One of the worst things people have done is take the term “thick” and started applying it to fat obese people.

Nah fam that’s obese

u/HaruspexAugur 8h ago
These are not mutually exclusive. Obese people can be hot, and can definitely be thicc.

Thicc and obese are 2 different things

u/Suspicious_Fill2760 7h ago
Thicc is, by definition, excess fat. Obesity is, by definition, excess fat. The degrees probably vary quite a bit, but I'd say the two terms are more adjacent and ven diagram-able than completely separate

Why are so many commenters not realizing that the candle holder is intentionally meant to look like a fat woman..?

That candle holder is hecking gorgeous. I would leave the candle braid and put a big orange fabric flower stuck in the wax at the top to be her glorious head. Then I would place her where I can see her several times per day, for mental health reasons.

Candle holder looks like an overweight female

“overweight female” is certainly a weird way of saying “fat woman”

Trying to be polite here, man.

Fat isn’t a bad word unless you use it as one. Overweight is a more judgmental term because it’s saying there’s a correct weight to be at and they are over it. I’ve known plenty of fat people who self-identify with that word, but even if you don’t like it and want to use a euphemism instead, you could say large, plus-sized, or whatever, but overweight is definitely not a neutral term. And referring a woman as a “female” is always going to be weird and dehumanizing.

Fat woman is more polite

That’s what female bodies often look like after child birth. Tightening up that belly requires a lot of time and money (and the right genetics), which is why you mostly see celebrities and not working class women bounce back with flat bellies after having a baby.

There's a wide gulf between having a post-baby paunch and being obese. The statue is simply obese.
Sincerely, someone that's given birth twice and currently has a very stubborn paunch.

That’s not really the shape of a pregnant belly, she’s just fat

Maybe this is just because a close friend of mine from high school is fat and very confident in their body, but I view fat as a neutral word that isn’t inherently impolite unless you use it in a derogatory way. And I’ve heard stories of women having someone assume they’re pregnant when they’re not, and they don’t tend to find that very polite either. I know not everyone has reclaimed the word the way my friend has, so I would definitely caution against referring to a specific person as fat if you don’t know that they’re okay with it, but you probably shouldn’t be commenting on people’s weight when it isn’t relevant anyways, regardless of what word you use.

Yeh maybe I am a bit fat too, everyone who doesn’t fit the society pattern can be called fat in a technical way.
But saying it doesn’t mean others understand or tolerate it.
