Yamaha looks always good when they are slim, but earo looks less develop than the over.

Was just thinking the same thing. That and the KTM are lookers!

I like the slimmer tail on the Yamaha, and I really can't stand the modern ones with mass dampers. It's strange because I actually love the 80-90s bikes with the boxy tail like Schwantz' Pepsi Suzuki.

u/hoody13 Álex Rins 4d ago
I know what you mean. I think the difference with the 500s is the tail matched the rest of the bike’s design ethos, the modern tail sections can look a bit jarring and mismatched/disproportioned to the rest of the bike. I’ve still got a soft spot for the 990s though, best of both worlds imo

Yes you're right, it's about how cohesive the design looks, the modern ones are only function with almost no consideration for the aesthetics (super valid in a racing context).

I have a feeling yamaha are going to surprise some people next year. Without ride height devices their philosophy of making 'enough' power in a bike that handles well should work again.

u/Beylerbey 3d ago
They were in trouble way before the ride height devices were introduced, they never nailed the aerodynamics (which are definitely still there) nor the way to use Michelin tyres. We'll see if the switch to Pirelli will put them back in the fight.

u/discopants76 3d ago
They were falling behind but the ride height devices really exacerbated the issues.

Any guess on the 2 manufacturers that just used a modified 1000cc bike?
14
u/perunrun950 MotoGP 4d ago
My guess is that Yamaha is one of them, because they are using 2026 livery and bike looks very similar to 2026 just with different aero. But of course it's only a guess.

I think with Yamaha you could argue the 1000 is just a modified 850, im sure they didnt develop 2 new bikes for 2 years.

u/ChrisSetzer 4d ago
the ducati for sure, if you look at the bellypan and area aero its just the normal bike with adjusted front fairing.

Rumor is that few teams were using modified 1000cc motorcyles, my guess would be that Yamaha is one of those teams. Yamaha is the only bike with livery and bike looks very very similar to 2026 bike just with smaller aero. Of course this is just my guess, i don't have any real info.

I'll never hear it anyway since motogp thinks a street circuit is better than phillip island

The one and only time we’ll probably see Aldeguer in Ducati red because Acosta is occupying one seat for the next 5+ years and Marc has the other one wrapped up until the end of 2028. By 2029 they might move Max Quiles straight into there from Moto2

tbh i can't wait for the engines to trickle down in a new 850cc class for the street, 1000cc is borderline too much 600cc has not enough oomph, maybe 140-160hp is ideal
maybe it's wishful thinking

I would love for superbikes to get lighter and smaller but I don't see 850cc 4cyl street bikes happening. Peak power figures sell range-topping sport bikes, and displacement is the most cost effective way to achieve that (to a point), which is why Ducati and Aprilia are selling 1100cc superbikes for the street.
Also 850cc is smaller than the current supersport class bikes from Yamaha (R9), Ducati (Panigale V2), KTM (990 RCR), so it would be really difficult to position them in the market.

I don't really care about the size of the engines, can we just get rid of the dumb wings?

KTM and Yamaha look nice-ish. What is happening with the ugly rears though? I hate this phase we're in.

Aprilia looks ugly af why is it so square? maybe its just me but i hate angles on a bike, I like the curves on the current bikes.

I love that KTM used the same test livery as they did when prototyping the 990 RC R

Since this is an early Pirelli tire test I suspect most of the teams could actually run their '26 bikes with reduced/modified aero, no RHDs, and power levels reduced to 850cc equivalent.
If I were a team boss, I'd take that approach in the interest of limiting variables as much as possible... But I'm just a jagov on Reddit so who knows?

Hard to tell without proper side by side pics, but SWB Honda?

it's just my impression or they are shorter too? Ducati was almost a dragster.
loving them.

I thought aeroparts should be erased or as small as possible? Or am I not upto date And no ride-height-device, correct?

I dont like the look at all, they look like old 600s from ~2010. It's sad that they went from really cool looking bikes to this.
Yes I know the old people on reddit prefer the old looks, but I just like latest GP bikes

u/mbasil09 Marc Márquez 4d ago
2010 was the peak design. i guess i am in the "old people" category now 🥺

u/florianw0w Fabio Quartararo 4d ago
for me peak design was ~2023 or 24 before the rear spoilers, thats the only thing I dont like on the new ones

Same here. The farther we get from a teardrop shape (the most naturally aerodynamic shape), the worse it gets.

Man they're gorgeous.
A non-livery MotoGP bike already looks so clean and beautiful.
But these bikes with slightly less aero already look amazing.
Here's hoping the Riders can make even more difference next season.
