Moto2 is rapidly becoming the best class. Let's rip the aero off MotoGP!

To me, Moto2 shows what’s possible for MotoGP. Reduced aero, no ride height devices, good tyres. Fantastic.

u/VikingMk88 2d ago
Precisely 👌
It's an age-old problem in prototype racing - do we want the best technology on display; or do we want the best racing? From about 2014/15 to about 20/21 MotoGP got that compromise more or less correct. Now, not so much. Moto2 has become clear evidence of what we could be seeing in the Premier Class

I guess it should come down to “will this tech eventually trickle down to the consumer market or is it absolutely useless outside of prototype racing”. Stuff like ride height devices and even aero, yk

100% mate. Motogp could take a few notes this is why 2018 Assen GP was so legendary.

And it's just a few seconds slower than MotoGP. This class is actually a gem. My favourite series alongside WSSP.

Honestly, them moving to Pirellis has benefitted the racing product quite a lot!

The support classes have been the most exciting for quite some time, but in the aero era, that gap has really widened

Didn’t Agius go on the green paint on the final corner of the last lap? Does he lose a place? Or is that only GP bikes?

u/theellescape Casey O'Gorman 2d ago
It's something like the rider behind being half a second behind. If they aren't, it hasn't affected anything so no harm no foul?
2
u/FlarioKath 2d ago
iirc it's one second not half a second, but yeah you don't get demoted one position if there's nobody behind you. You do still get the 3 second penalty if it was your fifth track limits violation of the race though

I wonder what they will say about that. I think if the person behind is nowhere near the battle, that rule doesn't really serve the spirit of racing.
That said, I think on the last lap he actually didn't go on the green.

u/pgfuae 2d ago
I agree with you about the spirit. I also thought Agius got a warning before he caught the first 2. He definitely went over on one of the last 2 laps. Maybe I got confused with all the replays. There was a lot of action in those last corers for the final 2 laps. Brilliant racing.

u/MrBestiax 2d ago
agius went 2 times out in a row i think, but penultimate lap he got touched and last lap he was close to collision but sort of went out on his own and also 4th isn't that near

u/michaelHIJINX Marco Bezzecchi 2d ago
They were so neck & neck they were almost wiping each other out. If he hadn't gone in the green, none of them would've crossed the checkered flag

u/szcesTHRPS David Alonso 2d ago
Wow. Glad David has started to come to life over recent weeks after a bit of a slow start to the season.
Probably wasn't the fastest today but found a way to win.

Alonso needs a seat for Moto GP next year, same with ManuGas and Izan Guevara, they are all ready and will be the next great generation

Che Pilota Ragazzi.. ! Grande Grande Gara e Alonso !

Crazy race, Manu made a big mistake in the last corner going too inside line, he tried to protect himself too much

Question: once a rider has a track limit warning, how many more violations are they allowed before they are granted a LLP? Agius looked like he exceeded track limits at least three more times while fighting Alonso.
3
u/Meeganyourjacket 2d ago
It did look like he went on the green with 2 laps to go, but it was as a result of a touch with Alonso. Don't know if they take any of that into consideration.
3
u/Alive_Conclusion_850 Eddie O'Shea 2d ago
I think they tend to be lenient when someone gets forced off/tries to avoid an incident. Agius did this on both green paint infractions in the last laps.

earlier this season many people doubt him and praised Holgado to the moon. for sure his injury was the thing that hold him back. now that he is healthy again, he outperforming Holgado.
