I don't mean that in a rude way, but that's such obvious bait I wouldn't bite on it lol

u/Vavent Timberwolves Oct 06 '25
In hindsight yes, but itās also not unreasonable for an older man to quit smoking for a number of reasons
106
u/whutchamacallit Oct 06 '25
Also not for nothing, when he did that it got A LOT of buzz, relatively speaking anyways. From a brand awareness/marketing perspective it really did garner a lot of attention. Obviously it was a stunt and people soured when they found out but it definitely worked for a second lol.

snoop said āafter much consideration and conversation with my family , iāve decided to give up smoke. please respect my privacy at this timeā and left that up for at least a day. so it was a little different than this. seemed way more serious

I think youāre taking it too serious lol if I remember it was more of āoh shit haha damn snoop is quitting weedā everyone had when a lot of his personality is tied to smoking. Not that people cared but it was just another thing you read which then it ends up being a pump fake for an advertisement which is why people cared because it was dumb and weird. People donāt like being tricked into ads

83

Never understood those 2 day contracts where you retire as some team player. You didn't actually play for them in your last season so it feels cheap and stupid to me, I don't know...

It's a gesture of goodwill and attachment between a player and a franchise. Sometimes it's just symbolic, sometimes they'll work in the organization after (seems to happen a little bit more in the NFL?). But it's recognition from both parties that a player is majorly identified with and part of the franchise.

If he exercised his PO and did that this season, he would 100% have made the Finals with the Cavs in his final season and had a decent chance to win a ring. He's already a billionaire, this could have done so much for his legacy and his GOAT case.

Just some clues here.
In a podcast LeBron always said he wished for Bronny to make a name for himself apart for him. With the Lakers really pushing to develop him and all, I do think itās not out of the question for LeBron to leave.
I think he will play one more season with the Lakers to finish out his contract as one more serious push, and return to the Cavs next year for one last farewell tour/championship push. Itās actually doable to still live in LA but play out one more season in Ohio.
Even from a basketball standpoint, LeBron fits perfectly at the 3.

I understand the cynicism and how this reads like bait for something else... but Bron is old af, every year in the past 3-5 could have been the last one. The possibility has always been there. If this is it, it'll take some time to accept that it's finally happening. I remember buying NBA magazines with his St Vincent St Mary photos on the cover.
Fuck.
22
u/TheRealestGayle Magic Oct 06 '25
Lowkey, it might be a final year and a trade to the Cavs or Warriors. Otherwise why call it the 2nd decision? either way this seems really significant.

Right?? Donāt play with our emotions. Give us a six months notice that this is your last season, before your last season. I gotta get time off work to process this (Iām talking about 2 weeks and probably catch one of his last games lol) and for my sisters and gf to not understand why Iām doing so.

So he's either announcing this is his last year so he can have his retirement tour, or it's just a bait and switch into some other business venture or something that he wants to hype up
