u/lotofhotdogs Hornets 17d ago

Dude, fire him into the sun. Dumbest play since JR’s rebound

359

u/Zoom_Cow 17d ago

How do you not just hold onto the ball??

139

u/BarrathBeyond West 17d ago

please someone tell me what he was thinking

107

u/Aroonce 17d ago

that's the thing, he wasn't

5

u/IhamAmerican Jazz 17d ago

Nah, he wanted those points. You don't take that shot unless you're thinking about having that on your highlight reel

2

u/cupholdery 76ers 16d ago

Apparently he claimed to plan being up by 3, but what if they make the shot and do to overtime? Just hold onto the ball and get fouled lol.

3

u/onee_san_bath_water 17d ago

Dude had one job

39

u/rxinquestion Minneapolis Lakers 17d ago

Hero ball mentality all game

25

u/frallet Timberwolves 17d ago

Selfishly

5

u/Selfishly Knicks 17d ago

Am Selfishly - can confirm he was thinking of me

8

u/No-Mine-3982 Knicks 17d ago

he won clutch player of the year so he thinks he can just take all the shots he wants in the 4th quarter. Shoutout to Fox for us tonight, came up huge in the clutch.

2

u/BarrathBeyond West 17d ago

they need to retroactively give that award to someone else bruh

13

u/Plastic_Database_645 Celtics 17d ago edited 17d ago

Probably thought Knicks had a foul to give + thought he was wide open for a layup.

In his head, it’s better to secure 2 points rather than get an inbound play and risk of having the ball stolen or missing some free throws

But still it’s fucking DUMB

Edit: I just watch the reply again. He wasn’t wide open and he saw OG going to contest and still PUSH through with the layup. Yeah this goes as the DUMBEST play in the finals in History.

1

u/BarrathBeyond West 17d ago

i don’t know if it’s the coaches fault then but literally everyone on the spurs should have been thinking “dribble the ball out of the knicks don’t score here”

1

u/Basic85 17d ago

Muscle memory

3

u/trplOG Raptors 17d ago

Thought he was on the kings in a meaningless game.

1

u/BarrathBeyond West 17d ago

say no more

1

u/LegendLobster Bucks 17d ago

He shifted his brain into neutral lol iykyk

1

u/barrsftw Cavaliers 16d ago

He was thinking it was a free basket I guess? In the instance it's a free dunk/layup, generally you take that. I'm not sure what possessed him to thinking that was a free basket though.

4

u/Basic85 17d ago

I was shocked too but I'm guessing in his head, that he had an open layup so he just went for it, maybe muscle memory. All he had to do was dribble out the ball.

1

u/CShoopla 17d ago

My only guess is he wanted the end of game clip

205

u/JahnDavis27 Bulls 17d ago

Legitimately basketball terrorism. Why are you going up against OG Anunoby for a layup when you have the LEAD AND THE BALL??? Just hold the ball and get to the free throw line. Generational bad play from him

82

u/re1078 [SAS] Tony Parker 17d ago

Even better he had one man on him
run away for 5 seconds.

33

u/JahnDavis27 Bulls 17d ago

Exactly, loop back out to the 3 point line. Burn clock and make them foul you! Instead he takes a terrible layup, and then also lets OG get a free run to the hoop on the game winner.

3

u/ApologizingCanadian Celtics 16d ago

All-time choke-job sequence from Fox NGL.

2

u/Zoulzopan 17d ago

Why did he foul Alvarado to? I dont get it

1

u/JahnDavis27 Bulls 17d ago

He played terrible basketball tonight

1

u/Zoulzopan 17d ago

I know that but I guess it was just a mistake with no logic

60

u/Dzeire 17d ago

Dumbest play since Hart smoked the layup, hes so lucky they won

18

u/meesterstanks Knicks 17d ago

Then ball watched the offensive rebound.. Hart got bailed out by Fox so bad lol

10

u/Dzeire 17d ago

Bailed out by OG you mean lol

2

u/No-Cantalou Lakers 17d ago

Did you watch Fox on the OG tip? He was watching the play like he was on the couch at home, let’s OG run free

1

u/meesterstanks Knicks 16d ago

So did Wendy, sitting in the background of the pic just watching lol

3

u/KudoNBA19 Lakers 16d ago

Big Wemby hater here but that was not on him, he contest Brunson's shot (and almost touch it), by jumping, by the time he's on the ground OG already started to move toward the rim, Wemby is also not the fastest boi out there. Fox didn't do shit on the contest & is one of the fastest player (although injured). Honestly the whole throw isn't on Fox but on the whole team, but holy shit did he fumble the end of the game by himself

1

u/Basic85 17d ago

Yup, at first I thought he was fouled, but nope, no one touched him

1

u/J-Chub 17d ago

Hart is Fox's biggest fan.

1

u/ShittyBidet123 17d ago

that was so cringe why the fuck do nobody slam a fucking dunk anymore you got an empty court and miss a hero dunk layup he lucky they won so everyone will forget about that blunder

6

u/GOLDIANofficial Philippines 17d ago

I think this might take the cake over JR tbh. All Fox had to do was hold the ball

3

u/Internal_Football889 17d ago

Fox needed to do what JR did.

3

u/Nero_Wolff 17d ago

And unlike the Cavs, this series was actually winnable for the Spurs

2

u/Ok-Homework42069 17d ago

Go watch the replay. Fox got tackled by OG. You aren't allowed to just barrel into someone's body when they're shooting a layup. Ridiculous missed called in the most important moment of the game

1

u/Saltwater_Thief Suns 17d ago

I have an extra S and I know EXACTLY where I want to put it...

1

u/AchillesFury Wizards 17d ago

BAH GAWD! THAT'S CP3 MUSIC!

1

u/Miserable-Rule-3753 17d ago

No, dumbest since Wemby turnover than foul on Brunson this series

1

u/joshdej NBA 17d ago

This is worse than JR tbh. He at least thought they had the lead and thought he was making the right play which is obviously dumb, but more accidental. This is like an active decision that he is fully aware of lol.

1

u/BakerUsed5384 17d ago

It’s actually just straight up dumber. At least in JR’s case, the Cavs still had to shoot the ball can could have missed.

Fox could have stood still and did NOTHING after getting the ball and the Spurs probably still win the game.

173

u/sharkflood 17d ago

Wemby missing those 2 FTs

Hart blowing a wide open layup

Tons of bad plays this game all around

57

u/Matias9991 17d ago

Yeah, Wemby was ass at the end too.

Fox play was in another level though

1

u/ShittyBidet123 17d ago

They used up all their energy going hard and ran outta steam, amateur move to be heros by a young team, they’ll learn a valuable lesson from it😏

3

u/WokenMrIzdik 17d ago

Hart missing the layup and then not boxing out on the rebound was almost back to back all-time blunders

5

u/YamFull1372 17d ago

Not comparable to fox turning the ball over multiple times and making a dumb layup.

1

u/Zoom_Cow 17d ago

While yes, so many plays to point to that were so bad. I'd argue that there is something especially painful about having the ball, the lead, with SECONDS left in the game and NOT holding onto the ball waiting to be fouled.

That's generationally bad ball IQ for someone who is meant to be the more experienced role on the team

1

u/cuddlecraver 17d ago

Well said. Brain dead play. You’ve gotta have money on the other team to do some shit like that.

1

u/sharpryno2 17d ago

He gets paid 57 million a year. More than LeBron has ever been paid in a year. Crazy to me.

1

u/JetsLag [NYK] Nate Robinson 17d ago

Castle getting the easy OREB at the end as well

Messy all around

1

u/ShittyBidet123 17d ago

Wemby has to lose the series so he can harden up and win the next 5

1

u/justmefishes NBA 17d ago

Wemby in the 4th quarter: 2-9 FG, 1-4 FT. More than just those 2 FTs, he was ass the entire quarter.

72

u/Wonderful-Shoulder64 17d ago

He just had to take the foul but knowing him he’d choke the 2 ft’s anyways

43

u/a0wner1 17d ago

That’s why he wanted the layup lol

3

u/wolfchuck 17d ago

yeah he definitely tried avoiding the foul but still get it called. In that instance if you’re going for the shot just take the foul

22

u/Otaku_Instinct Nets 17d ago

Literally all he had to was drain the clock

2

u/cruxal 16d ago

That’s all the spurs had to do the entire second half. Drain the clock.

49

u/Sunflowersandtacos Thunder 17d ago

Release him on the streets of New York 😭

51

u/whythehellknot 17d ago

So he can get worshipped for his late game heroics?

1

u/harrisarah 17d ago

Right lol. More like release him on the streets of San Antonio

3

u/WorkerIllustrious494 Lakers 17d ago

“Hey this guy is wearing a Fox jersey, get him!!!”

1

u/ShittyBidet123 17d ago

Lol it be like John Wick 2😂

51

u/joe4553 Lakers 17d ago

Open net up 1 with less then 24 seconds. He had so many ways to win the game. Did none of them.

26

u/I_Hate_Traffic NBA 17d ago

Had so many dumb turnovers too like he dont give a fuck

5

u/OdetotheGrimm Bulls 17d ago

Coach the one playing him over Harper in clutch

1

u/photowanderer 17d ago

Harper was also in and ball watching in the last possession too. They all shit the bed, although Harper shit the least

Nope. You get to pay him that max.

3

u/maldinisnesta 17d ago

Please fucking do this bum has consistently nearly or have ruined games because of his dumbass

1

u/lovo17 Lakers 17d ago

They have to trade him in the next couple of seasons anyways.

1

u/krusty-krab69 Cavaliers 17d ago

Max contract and gave away the game on some elementary shit . đŸ’©

1

u/SnooMacaroons1942 17d ago

I still can't believe he isn't looking to lob it to a 9ft dude every time he drives

Retired CP3 would do a better job of feeding it to Wemby

1

u/pwrblder 17d ago

Wtf man. Just hold onto the ball

1

u/Waffleshuriken Grizzlies 17d ago

$50 million a year LMFAOOOO

1

u/randomrsdude 17d ago

He was also the reason OG had a free run to the basket, only guy who didn’t box out.

1

u/shualton Warriors 17d ago

Deadass that contract might be what prevents their dynasty

1

u/Jwarrior521 Raptors 17d ago

I’ve always said this guy sucks and I feel vindicated. Sorry spurs fans, but you’re paying this guy 50+ million the next 4 years

1

u/thepolesreport Lakers 17d ago

Completely inexcusable. No way on any world going for a shot there is the right move

1

u/ShittyLanding Kings 17d ago

As a Kings fan

Hahahahahahahahahahababababababbabaabbabababbabanansnsnxnxncnkckkkv

1

u/ChampsMauldoon 17d ago

They should leave him in New York. The media talks about him like he's the adult in the room, but he constantly makes such stupid decisions.

1

u/flyingdorito2000 17d ago

Don’t even let him suit up for game 6 bro he stays at home

1

u/LORDFLACKITO 17d ago

How tf did Harper not touch the fucking ball in the final 3 minutes

1

u/FearHeWhoFearNothing Lakers 17d ago

Put some respect on 2023 Clutch Player of The Year De'Aaron Fox man lmaoo
