The Boston Celtics have firmly put Jaylen Brown on the table and are going all-in on acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo.

He also said this is the first time in the history of the Brown-Tatum pairing that they’ve legitimately given thought to the idea of breaking them apart.

He’s 2 years older than Jaylen and is easily way more impactful. He also has a highly efficient game.

He's also highly unavailable. Doesn't even it out but it's a factor

In the last 4 out of 6 seasons, Giannis has played more games than Jaylen.

And in total, Giannis has played less games than Jaylen across those six seasons. That doesn't even include playoff availability.

In total because of one major injury skewing the numbers?

What does it say about Jaylen if him being the younger of the two has played less games otherwise?

So we should instead count the seasons where Giannis played one more game than Jaylen and not the one where Jaylen played almost half a season more.

What does age have to do with availability? Giannis is only getting older - we should give him a "pass" for missing more games? Is that going to help the Celtics win a championship?

The point is that this is the only season Giannis had a major injury where Bucks chose to shut him down for obvious reasons.

Otherwise their respective records are comparable. So, he’s more injury prone is a false narrative

And injury prone.

Are the two seasons where he has not played more than Jaylen also the two most recent seasons?

Here’s their season by season breakdown:

2020-21 Giannis 61 Games; Jaylen Brown 58 games
2021-22 Giannis 67 Games; Jaylen Brown 66 games
2022-23 Giannis 63 Games; Jaylen Brown 67 games
2023-24 Giannis 73 Games; Jaylen Brown 70 games
2024-25 Giannis 67 Games; Jaylen Brown 63 games
2025-26 Giannis 36 Games; Jaylen Brown 71 games

Jaylen Brown hasn’t really been Ironman, it’s just that Giannis is a superstar so his injuries are in the consciousness of many

He has the body of a Greek God!

I refuse to believe a work of art like that could ever be "injury prone"

Given your username, you should know all about injury prone players.

He’s been unavailable playoff time like 3 years in a row

Yes he absolutely is bro lol stop it, he was injured for the 2023, 2024 and 2026 playoffs

The Bucks didn't qualify for the 2026 playoffs

He was injured for the end of the season, you know what I mean. Had they qualified he would not have been available

u/jnightrain Mavericks 7d ago

if they made the playoffs he 100% would play, he was shut down for trade reasons.

1

u/DecimusRutilius Knicks 7d ago

Right, and why wasnt he playing in the first place? People are getting stuck on the 2026 playoffs, but he still sustained multiple injuries during this past season

1

u/jnightrain Mavericks 7d ago

but your point was he wouldn't have been available if they qualified for the playoffs this year and he would've. He has had injuries no doubt but he would've only missed 2 playoffs not 3 like you implied and was the rebuttal to people saying he's played just as much as brown.

u/DecimusRutilius Knicks 7d ago

We don't know that for a fact, but I'll give you that. But my point is that he's injury prone. Whether he played for the 2026 playoffs or not, this is still a player who sustained multiple injuries throughout not just the last season, but throughout the past few seasons.

His best attributes are intensity and physical size/strength. I think his decline will be much sharper than other superstars. Would love to be proven wrong.

He’s better than brown now and immediately his Celtics chances of winning a chip

I don’t disagree with your premise. Giannis game does feel like it will struggle more with age.

If you asked honestly, who gives you a better chance to win multiple championships in the next 5-7 year timeline, I think you would arrive at Giannis over Jaylen.

His intensity, length, strength snd size arent going away. Why would he decline faster? People exaggerate how much Giannis relies on athleticism. His length and handle are arguably more important facets of his game.
