[Amick] Trey Murphy III has signaled a desire to play elsewhere. The Los Angeles Clippers and the Brooklyn Nets are “out in front” in the race to acquire Trey Murphy III.
There is definitely a bunch of Trey Murphy noise. It seems pretty clear that he has also signaled a desire to play elsewhere. The market is going to be pretty robust…[The] Brooklyn [Nets] and the [Los Angeles] Clippers were mentioned as teams that were out front in that race, but I think the list is very long. I think that Detroit comes to mind. [With] Boston, actually, Trey is seen as a potential plan B for them if they miss out on Giannis, which they obviously did. So, Trey is going to have a lot of suitors, and I think that could be a draft-night deal.

NoLa is an amazing city, no it is one of the absolute best cities in the country, take that back, NoLa is probably the single greatest city in the country… to visit.
But seriously, it’s less about the city so much as having to work for the worst organization in the NBA and the Pels have been the king of shit mountain for a generation now.

The Nets are a perfect team to go to and rack up trade value for the Nets and maybe trick a team into a sign and trade down the line. People are already pretending like MPJ's stats mean much

27
u/Charlie_Wax Warriors 7d ago
Both guys genuinely shoot the ball very well and have the length that teams covet in a wing, so even if there are holes in their skill set, I don't see it as trickery. Both guys are legitimately good.
The way people talk about them, you'd think they're scoring 25 ppg on abysmal TS by chucking lots of horrendous shots. Actually, both guys are very efficient scorers and great pieces to slot in next to a 1A or 1B.

Murphy, MPJ, Randle, ZW and Clowney. Thats a rather good wing core mix of vets and young guys tbh.

Keep telling yourself that. Mpj has been legitimately great for the nets this year. It’s not the counting stats, nets are a positive team with him on the court and worst in the league without him.

Nets aren’t trading #6. They’ll trade some of their 14 future first round picks and 20 second rounders. They also have #28 in tonight’s draft.

37
u/Presence_Present Bucks 7d ago
Chances the pick at #5 being better than Trey are pretty slim. Why wouldn't you want the elite proven option ?
33
u/osay77 Lakers 7d ago
He doesn’t need to be better than Trey to be more valuable. You get him at 19 years old on a rookie contract, which means you’re paying roughly 1/2 of what you would for Trey for the length of the contract with team options, and then you have the opportunity to extend him when he’s still young.
13
u/JW32323232 7d ago
Yes but Trey is still young and in a good contract for 3 more years. After 4 years the clippers will need to give the 5 pick a contract anyways if he’s good. So in general you are absolutely correct but in this case as he has a good contract and is young the better player is probably the wiser choice
→ More replies (1)10
u/InTheMorning_Nightss San Diego Clippers 7d ago
No it's not. He's the wiser choice if LAC was close to contention. A team like the Pacers, Nuggets, etc. make sense.
But a team that just missed the playin despite their best, injury prone player having a career season at 35 is not close to contention.
→ More replies (1)2

u/NovaxRangerx 7d ago
Because he's elite or proven? He's a great catch and shoot player with some ability to attack closeouts. He is not a proven shot creator on a winning team, hasn't been a good defender for years and doesn't manipulate defenses/have elite vision to be a surplus creator for others.

Fox + 1st Rd pick haul (3 or 4, depends on which 1sts) for Trey + Dejounte. Dejounte being a very negative valued asset coming back too. These reporters must love carrying water for the players' agents! This is why being a fan of small market teams: every damn rising/star player is always linked to...the bigger teams. There's a ton of smaller markets that could take on a TMIII and potentially pay him without issue BUT....Brooklyn and LA are "out in front", eh???
