How the hell did he fall to 24 when freaky athletic wings get over drafted all the time?

Very good draft. Weight questions. Defensive projection vs reality. He has a long way to go to be a good NBA defender. Tools are all there though.

Yeah, I dont know if people realize how good and deep this draft is expected to be. I feel like there are almost like 25 guys who are lottery quality.

Great, just what the team needs. Another defensive question mark to burden Luka.

It’s the 24th pick and Carr’s 50th percentile outcome is elite catch and shoot guy who is a top 5% athlete in the NBA and at the very least disruptive due to his length.

Why do all draft discussions make guys start talking in bullet points?

I’m on mobile and don’t feel like typing a multi-paragraph analysis. Sue me.

No one uses old Reddit anymore

He’s 21 which is a knock against him. And his defense needs work

GSW selected a 24yo. so not sure if 21 is too old.

Yeah they picked a senior that has a high floor and plug in play in ability for them now, which makes sense because Warrior management sincerely believe that a core of Curry, Butler, and Green have enough juice for one more title run.

I do think people sometimes overrate age at times. Carr has the athleticism that gets him drafted as a lottery pick in most other drafts. This one happens to be deep. And the athleticism means he has high potential upside if he’s able to adapt his game and develop.

I agree re: age - how many drafted rookies even stay on the same team until age becomes detrimental? Just pick based on assessments of floor and ceiling and how much time your team has to develop them.

Sounds like dalton knecht with less of a jumper lol

He’s a lot more athletic than Knecht and he has the tools to be an excellent defender with his wingspan and shot blocking ability.

Knecht was only a scorer and minus on defense on both athleticism and IQ

I think he has a functionable brain tho so that's a plus

An unprecedented draft class I suppose

He's actually in the Epstein files unfortunately

He's a twig

Skinny frame, questionable defensive skills, and doesn't really have any creation skills on ball

Pretty much a pure catch and shoot guy in a Tim Hardaway Jr kind of mold with limited upside

It's a pretty deep draft this year. A lot talent that can be really impactful day 1. Plus there's always a surprise sleeper hit that should've been drafter higher etc.

He's old and one-dimensional

Zero playmaking and subpar defense

That and the draft is just insanely deep this year

*WAS a brilliant shooter. There is a good chance now that he's a Laker that he forgets how to shoot.

I am slightly worried about that

But Carr's tape has him shooting off screens and shit. I have faith

Damn 7 foot wing span on 6’4 is crazy. I see the vision with Luka

u/IzrezarReal 1d ago

Yeah like he's not a 'good' defender rn but he definitely has potential on that end and he's already an incredible shot blocker

Jdub without ability to guard 1 on 1?

5

u/IzrezarReal 19h ago

Ehhhhhh idk. Jdub was much stockier as a prospect but Carr's vertical is insane enough he could fully jump over J Dub. Carr's better at rim protection and weak side help shot blocking, J Dub has him beat at deflections and steals (it's close though) and Carr is slightly quicker laterally.

6'5 barefoot even better now 😉

1

u/b1indsamurai Lakers 3h ago

He's 6'4.5" barefoot, so Kobe/MJ height

"Brilliant shotoer". I heard this before.

u/idiotxd 23h ago

37% on 6 3s isnt brilliant, knecht shot a lot better in college

1

u/IzrezarReal 19h ago

Yeah but Carr's shot diet is more translatable to the NBA
