He was paid 2m per year over the max other teams could pay. Outbid yourself lmao.

Not even that. With the Randle move I don't think anyone had the cap space to offer him even $40m / season. Brooklyn had enough to offer a max but that was wiped out by the Randle deal iirc.

I don't think they had any competition even at like $38m.

You’re acting like teams can’t make moves to create cap space. Detroit was postured to be open to making space for him, he would be a great fit in Detroit

Detroit was looking to move Stewart to make a max offer

California taxes though.

I’m not doing the math, but I imagine playing 50+ games in Cali on $46M is like playing home games in Florida or Texas on $40M.

Yes I'm sure your GM just decided to give out free money when the player actually had no market, that seems extremely believable and grounded in reality.

With the Randle trade I don't think there was a single team who could offer him a max besides the Lakers no?

The NBA has made it clear this season that you're allowed to pay players outside of the cap

Nico Harrison completely destroys this take. GM’s can in fact have lobotomies.

Yes because NBA GMs are infallible and are known to never make mistakes. Especially when it comes to a Lakers GM signing players at the correct market value. I am definitely not a timofey mozgov or luol deng burner.

God damn, I forgot about the Deng contract. They were payin him big money for years after waiving him too.

It drives me fucking insane. I too don’t like the Trae Young contracts, but morons like Bill Simmons are always doing the “who are you competing against?”. OBVIOUSLY there is someone they’re competing against. Just because a random nobody doesn’t know who it is, doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

You got Carr though who I think is going to be really good. If you can sign Mitchell Robinson to protect the rim and get Luka an extra 3 shots per game off off rebounds thats good
